I'm Not Sure About These Cheap, Brushless, RC Cars!

The UDI RC 1601 Pro & the SG Pinecone RC 1606 Pro are two very cheap, RTR, brushless, 1/16-scale, 4WD RC cars, which have garnered quite a following! With cool looks, good spec, decent performance and a low price tag, it's easy to see why a lot of people like these little tarmac racers.
However, our experience of them has been far from ideal!

I've had a few of the cheap RCs, I always check to make sure parts are available,, before buying , You should know to do pre checks on any rc before running, even on traxxas / armma etc

Hi Alan, used to sell them in my shop when they first came out here. The brushed version is smoother, the diffs usualy need some work and the gyro is better turned off. There are better small onroad vehicles out there. They were good for the time when they came out a few years ago but things have moved on quite a lot with these small scale rc's

Good info, thanks. Yeah, the gyro is absolutely useless! I'm not even sure what they were thinking! With oil shocks, they aren't bad, but, as you said, things have moved on.

@@TheRCScotsman Schumacher also do the newer version which comes with the metal diffs and oil filled shocks, it only seems to be available with the horrible looking drag body though 🤦

In that price point I have found sadly you generally need to strip the cars down before running them and look for and fix issues like the ones you found as the price dose not seem to allow for much quality control. Now onto the heat-sink, If they used Thermally Conductive Epoxy to fix the head sink (with older computer motherboards and GPU's it used to be quite common to do that) in place that would stop if coming off and while still allowing it to do its job, but if they just glued it as you say that would likely trap heat in rather than dissipating it and if that is what they used they still did a poor job as you would not just want a blob as that would stop most of the heat-sink and motor from making contact.

Very true. Something to bear in mind. Absolutely. In this case... it's just adhesive! Not at all useful. And also... didn't work as adhesive!
The lag is why I think the brushed versions actually drive better, Could the fishtailing be the gyro turned up too much?

Fitted oil shocks and all metal diffs in my lil Lancia delta. Has improved it driving wise but steering on mine is kind of on or off .The metal diffs operate a heck of a lot smoother than stock ones. For what it is they are a bit of a laugh when there are 3 off us mucking about 😅

Good to hear. We've got some oil-filled shocks, now. Hoping to have all the issues fully addressed. Well, apart from the throttle delays and slightly poor servo. These do seem fun and I'm looking forward to running them with proper suspension.

@@TheRCScotsman nope lol as they got replaced after first run out. Saw a vid on here ages ago showing the difference they make. A lot more controlled and miles smoother . The plastic diff gears feel all notchy when you turn the wheels, the metal gear ones are really smooth

@@TheRCScotsman put the car on its roof then turn either front or rear wheels against each other, plastic gears felt horrid on my stock one. The metal ones just glide nicely
i had a pinecone and found out it wasn’t waterproof 😂 and tbe rally and road models are identical bar the tyres and body 🤷♂️
