I'm NOT Quitting YouTube, But...

With all the KZreadrs quitting lately, you might be worried about who is next. Well, it ain't me! I do need to make some changes though.

KZread is forcing everyone to use the premium pay as you go. As far as I know they will now pay you for all the ads I blocked or skipped before. So you might be getting more dosh on that front.

same here, I'm hoping creators are actually seeing a notable uptick since I am 100% sure we are not the only one's who shilled out for YT premium just because it's not worth hunting after working add block versions, dealing with the intentional slow downs ect ect @

Keep sponsorships as moral people are boycotting/blocking yt adverts and their profit making services! They said they couldnt underpay females so checked when they found out men where under paid by 30% they said ah thats ok we dont need to fix that! 😒 You should see all the bloggers on here they take their 5 staff on their "road trip" LOL

Thank you for not catering to the "average" person. We watch you because we don't want to watch what everyone else watches. My favorite videos you make are on stuff nobody else would watch. Also along those lines, I love it when your wife comes on and you explain things with her. You two are great together. The chemistry is just fun to see.

That is exactly why I stopped watching game theory many years ago, his transformation into "dadpat" (his words), basically ruined his content for me. I watched his content for videos like the companion cube and majora's mask theories, his channel became something entirely different that didn't mesh with my interests at all, it felt too watered down for me. I want that existential dread and dark humor, not dad jokes!

Yep, when you cater to the average viewer they tend to hang around for a few videos and then move on to the "latest and greatest thing". A few channels i have been a big fan of have gradually changed their content over the last few years. Nothing wrong with the average viewer either, i tend to follow a channel, here and there from time to time and lose interest after awhile, but I will always support channels that are doing their own thing, like Asylum.

@@ScienceAsylum That's something I'd like to comment too. I really don't like YT ads, (specially those in the middle), but I really don't mind seeing sponsored promotions! Sometimes I find myself entertained with the promotion and I think it's because of the same reason I kinda like them: because it's still you, Nick, passing the message, and we, the viewers, we like you. I find it fun to see how different creators adapt their way of communicating into marketing. It's still marketing, but the aesthetics of it remains of that person we like to watch and listen to. It's interesting and sometimes fun. Anyway, I just wanted to reinforce that comment because maybe the majority of people don't mind sponsoring that much (like I said, I kinda like it), but you know, Nick, in the end we all want you to do what makes you more comfortable. P.S.: just to exemplify, you might remember a comment I wrote once, that I was joyful to see you and a Brazilian youtuber that I like both promoting the same company (surf shark in that case) on what was for me, as viewer, the same day, and seeing you both maintaining your aesthetics during the promotion. P.S.2: already a supporter on Patreon! Wish you all the success! Cheers from Brazil! ♥

Change 1 I understand where you are coming from. I am a Patreon Science Asylum member and I want you to know, that I do not, in ANY way, mind your sponsored segments. You do it in a rather unobtrusive and ethically salient way, it's inherently skippable, and its a structured way to further support some of my favorite content on the net. Unless it's morally objectionable to you, I support your unique use of Sponsored content all the same. Please do what you love and educate those who would otherwise have no means to do so by any means.

TOTALLY resonates with me! Throughout my career (as a scientist, educator, and creator), I have resisted the push to be a manager or spend my time doing business tasks like accounting that I find deadly boring. It's affirming to hear somebody as talented as yourself say this! In the end, we have limited time on this earth, and how we spend our days and talents matters. If there is enough money to pay the bills, then trading quality time and freedom for money is "so-what?" pointless.

That being said, absolutely go crazy with your videos! It's your channel where you can speak about topics that you enjoy most of all! I can imagine how overwhelming keeping track of analytics must be, and if it was me, i would probably lose all thrill of making videos after a month. So don't overstrain yourself! Better to produce vids charged with enthusiasm than joyless mainstream ones. This has been one of the few channels that deliberately tries to demystify the peculiarities of physics, that presents information in a materialist way and breaks down metaphysical explanations. Thank you for your work and good luck!

I love your tone and your unique way of finding explanations for us lay people. I really enjoyed your conversations with your wife too (sorry I forget her name), they flow naturally and the interaction between you is great, like how she starts with her prior knowledge and you go from there. All the best for the future and mad respect for letting go of sponsors!

First, I'm glad you're making decisions for your best life. As a viewer and a fan I want to make sure you know that *I* don't mind sponsored segments. I get that's how the sausage gets made, and frankly you've always done an above average job incorporating sponsored content. As much as anything, I see it as a testament to your creativity. I won't miss them, but if I'm choosing between more you with sponsors and less you without, I chose more you, sponsors or not. But if it's just a you thing that means you are dropping them, of they're just more trouble than they're worth, that's fine, I would rather see you take care of yourself and be here for a long time than make a little more money and burn out.

As a fellow KZreadr, I feel the pain. Good for you. You gotta make the changes towards self-sustainability. There will always be a tension there between making a living and doing what you love, and there are always parts of every job that you won't like as much, but being creative sure beats working in civil service...although that's what gave Einstein the time he needed to be brilliant on the side.

Not a suggestion, just an observation: part of hiring a team can be hiring a manager. Indie bands hire managers for exactly this reason -- they want to focus on making music and not get bogged down in the business side of things. You would still be the director, able to focus on the creative side, and give your ideas to the manager to let them handle the details. Again, just an observation. I would never presume to tell you how to do your own thing. I will support as I can, and I look forward to the content you have in store for us.

You are by far my favorite science channel on youtube. I have no education on science but ended up getting into it as a hobby and i teach myself everything i can by reading books. Whenever there's something im having trouble understanding you have a way of putting it in a simple term i can understand. Although i understand the need for sponsorships as a viewer i hate them. Ive never given anything on youtube before but you deserve all the support we can give you. Thank you for the years of education and stay crazy.

100% happy to see you make the videos you WANT to make rather than chasing the subs - those are the videos I want to watch! I’ve been thinking about buying your book, actually so yeah, sounds like a good reason to do that. I watch most of your videos twice, right now - once on KZread (because it’s convenient) and again since I realised you’re on Nebula - because I like the ethos of what they’re doing and because they have some SUPERB content producers there. I really don’t want to subscribe on Patreon or KZread though - if I subscribe to your channel, how do I justify not subscribing to one of the other 100 channels I regularly watch? This is why I think Nebula is such a great model.

When I found out about your channel you quickly became my favourite science educator. Really my style! But it all changed with time and I totally understood why. All youtubers face the same forks on the road. We accept that, because we know that, eventually, we need to survive. But it certainly takes away that “when is the next video coming out” expectation! I want to see the space station back! Nerd clone! The vibe we get from moments like “some people want E to equal mc squared SO BAD…”. I started a channel and got one video so far, working on the next. If you can, take a look and you’ll find you were a great inspiration to get us started! The idea of “educate your way”. Cheers! 🇧🇷

I know it's not a good amount, but I hope it helps (at least emotionally). You are a very valuable channel for me. Unlike other metaphysical, negative science channels, science shows that the universe is an amazing place, no matter what it happens. You are also a very good teacher. Conversations, confusions, etc. between clones. Gestures actually reflect the questions in the students' minds. And these little games make students feel like center of the subject. To me, you are like Senku from the Dr. Stone anime. Others reminds me Prof. Xeno. 🥰
