    De Vries' signing is not exciting because it was never meant to be. I got the feeling that he's groomed to be Sergio Perez's long-term replacement. You missed something, he has done endurance race. On this year Le Mans, he was sign up last minute by a team who had one of their drivers banned during the week, fast forward to quali they were overall 60th on the grid and finished 4th in class after 24h of Le mans. That´s something impressive in my opinion. Yeah he had an easy track to show his potential given Monza is a fast circuit that benefited Williams package , but such did Russel in 2020 in Sakhir outer layout. That was enough to convince Mercedes he deserved the seat. Same with Nyck I think.

None of the F2, F3 nor IndyCar candidates has any experience with neither hybrid nor electrical drives. And remember that Red Bull has 3 more years to develop a new Power unit? Here's the thing about De Vries: He does deserve criticism for his rather decent at best Junior career, but I feel like people over criticize and end up hating him for it. Certain simps of future or current world champs just bash the Hell out of him as if he's garbage, despite the proof that he's anything but terrible. Every car he's stepped into he's been average at worst and that hasn't happened as much as some wanna claim. He proved so much about his talent in his F1 debut; arguably the slowest car on the grid and he outpaced his teammate while qualifying pretty well, then he took the gift of grid penalties and held onto a points paying position in a very impressive fashion. One could argue there was luck involved but he more than held his own. People only wanted him to steer clear of Singapore simply because of the state of the Williams car; with some team bosses (and especially fans) having fickle viewpoints week to week, a non points scoring race there could've killed his hype almost immediately. With a respectable team like AlphaTauri, De Vries should be good with potential to be great. He has a future in F1, there's little doubt about that.

    Before Monza happened when people were fantasy boarding their dream F1 teams, not one person, not one KZreadr, not one F1 commentator ever spoke up in strong defense of De Vries definitely deserving a shot at a seat against the long list of those being shopped around. That's worrying because it's not like he was in some dark closet somewhere---the guy has been right there in the paddock, right next to Toto every other race helping Mercedes, doing FP sessions, and doing pre/post race commentary. I think I'll look at it with an open mind, rookie season 1, an actual fresh team he's never driven for, and we'll see. I hope for his sake having waited so long, he comes to grip with it, because in short order (no pun intended) they'll be calling him a one hit wonder if he doesn't meet at least rookie expectations.

    I've been going through all of your old content and as one of 7 fans of formula E, I have to say that your assessment of Nyck was spot on. Whilst everyone was praising his appearance at Monza, I watched him flounder in the fastest car on the grid during the 2021 - 2022 season and yeah, sure he won at Diriyah and New York, but apart from a podium finish towards the end of the season in London, he looked awful. Not to mention this was the last year that had that stupid fan boost, which he consistently got, where his teammate and eventual season winner Stoffel Vandoorne, got it in every race and put it to good use to be the worlds most boring championship winner. It was weird to watch Nyck race that year, it was though he frequently forgot he was in a racing car and I half believe the fact that his brain was lucky at Monza, as his brain somehow managed to keep working before the corners came up. Now he's sat with Mahindra, a team so allergic to points that they hired Edoardo Morecrasher just to make their year even worse. With Jaguar look set to take the constructors championship and the drivers championship thanks to the pairing of Nick Cassidy and Jake Dennis, only time will tell if Nyck manages to show everyone why he should race not just in Formula E, but at all. There are a lot of drivers out there that look like far more interesting prospects, such as Taylor Bernard, a lad that as a rookie, beat out Sam Bird's time in his car; that joke writes itself to be honest. Anyway, sorry for the wall of text, but here's hoping that Robin Frijns wins Formula E this season coming as I like him and his teammate Buemi! Whilst I'm doing wishful thinking, lets hope Dan Ticktum doesn't pull an F1 online and use another driver as a braking mechanism for the umpteenth time. If you don't watch Formula E, I'd recommend checking out this year's race in cape town for a last lap overtake which defied every law known to man and the big crash in rome, where a brief glimpse of armageddon showed up. Take care and all the best.

    I'm excited about him since I believe that the F1 grid should have champions from other disciplines (you know have the actual best drivers in the world and not latifis.) He may not become an F1 champion but he will be a good driver. Sidenote : imagine an F1 grid with a WEC champions, FE champions, Indy Champions and f2 champs.

    Is it just me, or am I getting Brendon Hartley vibes about Nyck? Like, - 28 when making F1 Debut with what is considered a "Junior team" - Excelled in other categories when not being in F1 for Years - Standing in for another driver near the end of the season, and does pretty well for the machinery given - Was contracted to Mercedes ...And we all know how Hartley's career went down..... I don't wanna jinx anything, but have a bad feeling for some reason.....

    This is cringe. So what if his junior career isn't as stellar as Charles or Russell. In F1 you're as good as your last race, and in his last race he seized the opportunity to drag a Williams into the points. Maybe he ain't a future World Champion, but I'm excited to see what he will do. It'll be interesting comparing him to Tsunoda. Writing him off as "not proper F1 material" is just not right. He has demonstrated he is adaptable and has decent race craft. He's got his chance and now we need to see what he can do with it.

    You're right, he deserves some credibility of holding off the points at the Monza race, and i kinda find people just overhating on him because of whole Verstappen thing. However, rumours suggested he would be driving Toyota full time for WEC next season before he was signed. And not saying F1 is bad for him, but being a factory driver was a chance to make up more stable career, especially when you almost hit 30's. Compare to F1 where there's no guaranteed if you survive for a year (Just look at Brendon Hartley). And the sad thing is, this wouldn't be happen if Colton Herta super license wasn't blocked by the FIA (Which in the eyes of Drugovich it was more painful because even though he was a champion, he lost to Herta. And when Herta was not getting a drive, he's still loses the seat to De Vries).

    I see the signing in NDV to AlphaTauri as a way Red Bull could be able to sell the team. Nyck isn't really a Red Bull affiliate. Being more of a neutral, it could make the team more enticing to an outsider.

    To be fair, Nyck de Vries' second season in F2 he was up against Russell, Norris, and Albon and came fourth. I'd say Nyck is around Albon/Stroll level driver. Servicable midfielder who can get you steady points with the occasional peak and valley. He's most definitely better than the shit we've had to endure since his F2 win like Latifi and Mazepin. And I'd rate him higher than some other drivers being talked about getting a seat like Giovinazzi. Heck, if he hadn't gotten the seat at AT I'd have preferred Nyck in the Haas over Schumacher or the rumoured return of Hulkenberg.

  • @laughing5752

    Even if Monza is an easy track Nyck raced in 3 different cars, 1st being an aston 2nd being latifi's car And lastly Albon. Having to drive 3 different cars and still get points I think is a good effort.

    DeVries is not the second coming of Verstappen. He may be competent, but that's pretty much the basic requirement in F1. You could plug 6 other drivers into the seat at Alpha Tauri and get the same results you're going to get from him.

  • @AngryChristian1
    @AngryChristian1 Жыл бұрын

    Nyck has some flashes of brilliance however his problem is a lack of consistency, which for a midfield team is a problem. As a Formula E fan, the guy is good, certainly good enough for F1, however he's not going to be great. Although he did win the title in FE, his was the least dominant and most barely-gotten in the series' history. He is fast at times, but does also make errors, so he'll probably have some shunts. Personally I AM excited about him, but not because I think he's going to be a future race winner, but because a De Vries/Tsunoda lineup is going to be really entertaining.
