Hello everyone, this is YOUR Daily Dose of Internet. In this video, a guy is using a blow dryer and gets bacteria on it.

Also in this video, NYC looks like a pre-game lobby for a video game. A laser breaks a phone's camera. We see what sun damage looks like. A monkey is amazed by a magic trick. A bunch of boats move an island. A bowler does a trick shot. A bunch of geese are afraid of a green laser.

As someone who works in a medical microbiology lab, I can tell you that all of those bacterial colonies appear to be commensal organisms, ie. they are on virtually every surface, are all over and in your body, and will not make any healthy person sick. It looks gross because they've been given the optimal environment to grow along with ideal nutrients. Don't let them scare you, but if you're still worried then don't touch your face/mouth when you are out and about (always ideal advice).

The purpose of hand dryers (or paper towels) isn’t to sterilize your hands, only to dry them. Microbes love moist environments, but drying your hands reduces the amount that would grow on them. They’re already floating in the air around you, so regardless of how you dry your hands, they’re going to get on your skin, but dry skin isn’t as hospitable for them as wet skin is

It's not about the blowers, it's just about the air. The air naturally contains a lot of bacteria, especially where people congregate, like bathrooms. If you leave a petri dish there for 20 minutes - the result will be exactly the same. The air blower just serves to quickly blow a bigger volume of air onto the substrate, that naturally inseminates it with more bacteria

I'd like to point out that the portion bacteria that grew in the dish are NOT representative of what the air dryer was doing. It's just what was in the air around being thrown onto the dish. Second the dish is designed to grow bacteria with a moist material filled with "food". Bacteria are killed by drying them out completely so the cell wall can't maintain the insides. So, this means the results have nothing to do with how those driers actually work.

@@electricfil Friction can kill bacteria, but it's unlikely that the friction of rubbing your hands together is enough to kill bacteria. The heat needed to kill bacteria during cooking is about 165 degrees Fahrenheit, which isn't something you can achieve through the friction of rubbing your hands together. Bacteria are small and flexible, and can fit into microscopic crevices on your hands and surfaces. The pores and microscopic recesses on your hands and surfaces offer ample room for bacteria to blend in and be protected. The CDC recommends scrubbing [preferably with soap and water] your hands for at least 20 seconds to effectively remove dirt, oils, and microorganisms. Lathering [with soap] and scrubbing hands [with soap and water] creates friction, which helps lift dirt, grease, and microbes from skin.

@@doriancoreyscloset421: It's not a "scenario"; it's just an example where extremely loud music is fine because there's nobody around. On the other hand, traffic jams are extremely common, and if a person has their music cranked up to the point where all people in nearby cars can't help but suffer even with their car windows closed, it's just pure assholery. Not to mention it's unsafe. Though, again, dunno if this particular person was a nuisance since one can't hear any loud noises from their car in this snippet.
