Last week was the 22nd anniversary of when my beautiful cousin Sarah died of CF aged just 19. She was a month short of her 20th birthday. I never once saw her without a smile on her face. Thinking of all Claire’s loved ones at this time.

I’ll never forget Claire. I miss watching her decorate her spaces.

I remember watching the documentary about her life and thinking the same thing that she says here about her mother. That this person could easily be my best friend. About ten minutes before the end of the documentary I recalled that I had recently heard about her in the news. About what had happened to her. I spent the remainder of the video with tears in my eyes. I just couldn't help it.

I've studied her song, I have parts of her documentary on repeat, and I follow the foundation/socials to catch exclusive bits like this. My feeling is her suffering consequently led her to discover deep levels of consciousness and meaning which so many of us seem to crave deeply. She represents the melancholic beauty of the existential struggle of our existence as human beings; and the capacity to laugh, love and be loved in spite of it. She represents undeniable valour and perseverance in the face of adversity, and is funny and very pretty to top it off. It's a unique and refreshing blend of charisma.
