Maryam Of course agnatic/agnatic-cognatic successione weren’t a coincidence. As for having lovers, there is a very practical reasons why women weren’t allowed to do it as freely as men, but yes, ultimately I agree it was also a matter of gender. Essentially, I’m not denying sexism was rampant throughout history. I consider myself to be a creative person, but not to that degree. All I’m saying is that decapitation was less about gender than it was about power. We don’t have any evidence that I know of about medieval or later queens having their husband decapitated for cheating, but it definitely would have been in the power of someone like Elizabeth I, for example. More in general, as a matter of fact, men were more likely to be executed. Basically, cheating was mostly a strictly female crime. Decapitation, on the other hand, didn’t discriminate based on the victim or the monarch’s gender.

​@@EIizabethGrace What you don't seem to understand is that you cannot talk about power without talking about race and sex. They interconnect and cannot be put in different categories as if they have nothing to do with each other. And you can't just simply make an assumption regarding Elizabeth out of nothing. How sure are you that she would've been able to get away with executing a husband in a society that was still very much religious and patriarchal? You really don't know what would've happened or how people would've reacted at that time.

I am obsessed with Medici: Masters of Florence. I think one of best drama in a long time. I wish there will be a second season.

contessina is one of the women characters that i like so much (in all the historical series/movies i've watched so far).. she's brave, strong, intelligent, understanding and most importantly she's loyal and empathetic.. i still remember the scene where she rode a horse and entered abruptly into the signoria (where no women were allowed) to save her husband.. and she did save him too.. but lol i cried so much at the way cosimo treated her.. the pain of always being the second priority even tho she did whatever she could to prove herself.. 😭

I wish Catherine of Aragon was here, because she really suffered so much. I think she was underappreciated, but actually THE QUEEN was the greatest and best of Henry's wife. I feel for her.

Amanda Charlebois It doesn’t mean it’s not in the chords of everyone. Women can betray others just as much as men. Especially when it comes to love, power doesn’t matter either. I see where you’re coming from, but being repudiated, beheaded or not being able to even really confront your cheating spouse isn’t all there is to betrayal. Less dramatic situations can hurt as well.

ann l Historically she didn’t even want to marry Henry. She was supposed to marry someone else but her father made her marry Henry instead. Anne’s father also forced Katherine Howard to sleep and marry Henry. So in reality none of them had much voice to choice

I never watch this show before but from this video.. What i saw is the men just using the women for sex and to bear their lineages.. Goshh.. What's more worst is that those women fought each other just to be with the person she loves or for her places in the court. It's sad that the men plays the women..

Oh Milady de Winter, one of my favourite female characters of all time. Strong, beautiful and a badass (and a murderer but that's a tiny detail :)))) I loved how in the tv show they showed her human and hurting part as well. Loved it. Hated season 3 though 😂😔

To be honest I have never understood why women could give their heart to one man, love him always, stay loyal, support him psychologically, etc, while the men couldn't always.

it was sooooo good and the only show i watch(ed) i reign

yes Milathos were one of my otps T.T, I refused to watched s3 after I knew about Sylvie, I couldn''t watch Athos choosing another woman, it's unbearable! The whole series was one of my favourite and to me it was totally ruined!

It was proven countless time by historians and I'm sick of people who dont do their research before writing a bullshits on internet. He never cheated on Anne, never had mistress and his only two known bastards were born before the marriage. The rumors about his relaionship with his niece were spreaded by Tudors who had a very weak claim on throne and needed to discredit him and look him like a monster.

to be fair to Francis, he and Mary were not together anymore when he slept with Lola. I still understand why she was upset though and every other guy in this video sucks. Especially Henry. He had multiple mistresses, treat them all like trash, try to kill his own son so he could marry Francis’s fiancée, killed a woman he slept with, wanted to have Catherine killed, and had the nerve to blame everything on Catherine and then tell her he always loved her.

Cosimo is ego maniac.But I think he loves her.He bringing another woman in his house ,because wants to punish her, because she is spending time with her ex boyfriend.After ,he had sex with his wife and never more slept with slave girl

you see, francis didn’t exactly betray mary, nor was he unfaithful. she broke off their engagement and made him illegatimate, and betrothed his brother sebastian instead. that was true betrayal. francis bedded mary’s lady lola, and yes that wasn’t exactly the kindest thing to do but mary refused him and accepted his brother. in my opinion, she was the guilty one here, seeing as he was faithful during their marriage.

There was back then, too. Actually, in Norway where the Danes / Vikings come from, if a wife was not pleased with her husband, she could choose another to bed and that would issue a divorce. Women had such power in their culture.

I think that out of all its Catherine of Aragon, Mahidevran Sultan and Mary-I that fit this song. I mean Henry took Anne Boleyn, Suleiman took Hurrem and Francis slept with Mary (Lola in the show).

Henry was not taken. He chose to abandon his longtime wife and pursuing a girl who did not want him at all and who tried to discourage him for as long as she could. Unfortunately,​ I do not know much about Suleiman and Hurrem, I read something on wiki but nothing more. And never found a way to watch the tv series, sadly.

@@hellokafkiana Yeah true, Anne was not the culprit it was Henry who did wrong to poor Catherine. But in this case Hurrem manipulated her way in the court and took Suleiman. Although when it comes to Mahidevran, both of them (Suleiman and Hurrem) were responsible for the hardships she underwent through. All I am saying I wanted the end of Anne Boleyn on Hurrem Sultan, sentenced to death. Anne was not Catherine's nemesis, Henry was but Hurrem surely was Mahidevran's nemesis.

@@hellokafkiana Oh and my bad, one mistake, there are no historical proofs of Francis-I ever sleeping with any other woman, but Henry Stewart lord Darnley definitely did. So Mary Stewart still fits the song. Hell even Anne Boleyn fits it, all that Jane Seymour affair, but not as much as Catherine of Aragon. Who else: Turhan Sultan, the show has projected Turhan as an evil manipulator or an angry mother, but in reality Sultan Ibrahim just tossed her aside.
