I'm Bringing The Pots With Me! 😆 :: July Back Garden Tour

Welcome Gardeners! Ok, this is it! This is the very last garden tour in this garden. I have loved every minute I’ve spent here. I have loved every lesson I’ve learned in this garden and I will always thank this place for teaching me how important gardening is to my life. I will miss this garden! 💗 Enjoy!

You never need to apologize for your feelings. Own them, they were beautiful. One's garden is so special, like another family member. You've invested so much time and energy in your garden, of course there is grief in leaving it - just part of the transition process. Thank you for capturing everything in great detail!

how very exciting ... and what a chuckle I got. three years ago I moved from my home/garden of 30+ years and, yes, I rented a 15 foot U-Haul for just my plants, containers, garden decor, etc. My hubs thought I was crazy - it took two trips !!!! It was overwhelming for a couple of weeks but we finally settled in and are loving our new place. I wish just the same for you & your family - a fresh new start and a beautiful new garden full of potential and opportunity !!!

Janey, when you prune back the sweet potato vine in the window box (side yard), place the cuttings in water or directly into pots (keeping them well watered so they root) and take them to your new house. You have lots of plants that you can take cuttings from without digging the whole plant, that way you can take a piece of your former garden with you. Another suggestion is to completely coat your outdoor bench with a product called Flex Seal. Make sure to cover it thoroughly, especially the bottom of the feet. Flex Seal comes in a spray can in the colors of white, black, and clear. I am so excited for you and Jason and your sweet daughters. ~Margie

If you do not have an oak tree at your new place, be sure to plant one. Some, like our Coast Live Oak grow very fast and they are a keystone tree species that is so critical for the health of our ecosystems. According to Doug Tallamy (if you don't know who he is, he is the rockstar of native plants for biodiversity), “We’re going to do conservation right at home. And there are keystone plants, meaning they are producing most of the energy that supports our food web. And in 84% of the counties in which they occur, oaks are number one.” I can't wait to see your new garden!❤

I know exactly how you feel about your garden. I hope to move, several plants here were planted in the mid '80's by my mom. What I can dig up is moving with me, peonies, iris, lilies & naked ladies. Think like this, your annuals leave you every yr, so while your leaving them looking great, they too will leave. I hope the new owners watch you, they'd get so much info from this and yesterdays video. Hope everyone has a nice weekend.

I understand the attachment to the garden! The City did some work at the front of our garden, and we had to take out a 20-foot magnolia that I planted from a twig over 20 years ago. I hugged the tree before my son cut it down! Even though it was plagued by powdery mildew, I was so sad it had to go. It left a hole in my garden and in my heart.

Janey, I am not sure how to word this but it is of my opinion that no woman (or man) should ever apologize for showing true emotion of something they are proud of. You have done an amazing job with your garden and your KZread platform. I Agree on the Bellini. Mine was also a bust this year. If you change your mind on the Bougainvillea, you can have mine. They are the most high maintenance plant I have ever experienced. 😉

I’d not really thought of doing my own garden tour for my own pleasure. My grandmother had an epic garden (you would have absolutely loved it!), and she used to walk around every year taking photos of the garden. We have an abundance of albums of photos that she took - and I love looking back at them and remembering (she’s been gone 8 years). Every time someone came to visit, they would get a tour of the garden. 😃

It is bitter sweet but you will create a stunning, beautiful garden all over again, of that I have no doubt and the new owners will really appreciate what they are inheriting if they are gardeners. When we moved here at the end of '21 we had an entire large moving truck just for the garden plants. They had to make two trips it was crazy but so worth it for me I'm really glad I did that now. My buyers weren't into gardening and had different plans for it. I hope the move goes swimmingly🚚🚚🚚🏡

I suspect your dark blue agapanthus is ‘Storm Cloud’ which does bloom later than the light blue generic variety. I have several which I very much enjoy and the are just now beginning to open. So nothing wrong with it. You might also like ‘Twister’ which is a blue and white bicolor bloom. Zone 10a coastal here in So Cal.

Such a beautiful garden front and back! So glad I found you before you moved and cant wait to see the new place.. Any teasers for us before you move??? Pretty please?? lol.. Oh, btw, Im your fellow 9B but at the coast which is so silly to me because our weather couldnt be more different in terms of highs and then our lows in winter are warmer. I love Japanese maples. My desire for them out-weighed the brain saying it was gonna be too windy here. And it is. I havent been able to get them into my garden. I have to keep them on my deck and move (pots on rollers) in/out of protected area. The wind burns them just like the sun did yours. This year for the first time, I really fertilized my oldest maple (like yours) and I think it helped make it a bit stronger to withstand our heavy breezes/wind. I wish they werent quite so fragile (I esp. like the lacy leaf variety and it really hates the wind). Good luck with move!

Why aren't you taking everything with you? I am moving from Virginia zone 8a to Florida zone 9a or b. definitely will be taking everything that will thrive in Florida... I, one can't afford to start from scratch and two love everything I have.. I don't see myself leaving everything behind. Will try to leave it beautiful for the new owners but its to expensive to start empty handed. I am definitely getting a lot of inspiration from your move and seeing how strong you are in leaving your beautiful garden.. its a beautiful oasis.

It looks like the back has lots of structure even without the pots, but I would like to see what it looks like minus the pots.

Bittersweet for sure! I guess you won’t need the borrowed land for a cut flower garden? Can’t wait to see the new chapter in your garden book! You are an inspiration for me to get out there, just wish PW was more available in Tampa area. Ps…what is the name of Chanel of Tampa gardens? I’m having trouble locating them.
