One thing I always liked about Keaton's Batman was how he would scare bad guys by stretching his cape wide open like a pair of bat wings and how he would deliberately let bad guys shoot him or hit and then brush it off like he's undead.

Fun fact, "I'm Batman" wasn't in the script, Keaton and Burton came up with it at the last minute.
Whenever I used to watch this scene, for some reason the way Batman was portrayed used to remind me of Michael Myers from the Halloween movies. The way he slowly and calmly approaches the bad guys, doesn't say anything or show any emotion, gets shot down but then bushes it off like it's nothing and rises back from the ground like he's undead. It really reminded me of Michael Myers and wouldn't surprise me if Tim Burton took some inspiration from the Halloween movies when making this scene.

The first scene involved the mugging of a couple and their young son upon their leaving a movie theatre. This was a nod to Batman's origin story as Bruce witnessed his parents murder while returning home from a movie, which was depicted later in the film in a flashback. Some viewers when first seeing the movie first believed the family seen in the opening scene to be Bruce and his parents, thus establishing the beginning of Batman's origin story. The scene has special significance for Batman, as it is a fulfillment of his original mission, preventing someone else from having to live through his tragic experience.
