Phoebe is a dear! (she should think about being a professional gift shopper) That was truly lovely what she did for you and it was so much fun watching you go through the package with the rest of us! Such amazing titles -- you will LOVE "The Enchanted April" (definitely a spring time read) and "House of Mirth" is good for the winter months; amazing writing (it's Wharton after all) but it gets dreary towards the end. Lily is a very sad character but one you cheer for throughout the book. Happy reading my dear!!!

It is my favourite Kay. He signed it for me in Ontario, and he had a brief discussion about cover art with the other author at the table. It turns out authors do not get a lot of say about the covers chosen for their works. I have a copy I purchased on the American side of Niagara Falls that features the original artwork, which he was very pleased with.

What a great selection of artistically rendered and high quality manufacture books you've shared with us here. I would just note I adore the Red Birds version of 'Les Miserables,' one of the longer tomes I or anyone has read in entirety being well over a thousand pages, and entertaining and profound. I got my first copy from my esteemed and erudite friend Aaron Ashurst who long operated an expansive used book store, a center of our town, which due to Aaron's warmth was like a second home and school to me.

Can you believe that Conrad didn't become fluent in English until his 20s? I love how The Graveyard Book is a reimagining of The Jungle Book. Can't wait to hear your thoughts on Eugene Onegin; a favorite! Foster is such a great little story. I need her new one. I love that Enchanted April has seen a resurgence. Henry James is one of my favorite writers. I hope you've read Portrait of a Lady. Speaking of, Edith Wharton was something of a disciple of his. You should look up Gustave Dore's illustrations for Don Quixote. North and South was one of my favorite reads last year. Like a Jane Austen with a Dickens story.

Enchanted April is a beautiful book, a favorite of mine I read it every year, April is the best time, I think you will love it. Malice of Forethought is actually by Anthony Berkeley a very famous mystery writer, one of the founders of the Detective Club with Dorothy L Sayers. He wrote it under a pen name because he was breaking tradition that had never been broken before this is the very first How Done It. The Beautiful And The Damned is my second favorite Fitzgerald book after Gatsby. Your friend has great taste, enjoy your birthday presents. This should get close to completing your collection, doesn't it?
