    Hello from Aunt Laurie and thank you so much for the beautiful shawl/scarf that arrived in my mailbox today. You're totally right - it's my color, i love the fact that the yarn was thrifted, and that you made it for me. Now that the secret is out and we know about your channel, I'm happily subscribed and i can pass the word around.

    Hi there, I have a couple of shawl pattern suggestions 1) for the mohair you were gifted- Magnolia Heaven by Twinset&purl- uses a skein of fingering and 50g of mohair for a light shawl 2) for the 10g minis - the Maggie Shawl also by Twinset&purl- stripes minis with a solid fingering weight skein. Both simple but effective patterns and lovely gift knits xxxx

    Needle recommendations on a ball band are for sweater density knitting. For shawls and lace work you traditionally size up more than you would think. Don’t be afraid to aggressively block it either for a nice open lace.

    Hello bubbly, entertaining Nora! About your Noro yarn cardi ... Did you remember to cast on the right amount of stiches under the arm when you joined the front and back panel? Also you probably lost almost an inch when you chose to join at the sholder with a seam instead of picking up stiches. I also suggest you pick up the sleeve stiches from every available stich in the armhole. Then you decrease 2 on every round at the beginning of the sleeve until you have the right amount. It will not look so good, but it is not visible as it will be in your armpit 😊. You seem to be a tight knitter like me. The fabric of this garment will be very sturdy and good for something like a coat. Did you block your swatch? I wouldn't just trust that the yarn will relax enough. Sometimes it will grow lengthwise, but not widthwise and sometimes the opposite. If your yarn is thicker than what the pattern calls for you might consider using a larger needle and knitting a smaller size. Sorry for the rant, but I struggle with the same problem. I just NEVER knit with the expensive yarn suggested. I always have to swatch, do some maths and have a mental breakdown before I achieve the result I want😂

  • @akaNoraKnits

    @akaNoraKnits

    4 ай бұрын

    Hahah thank you for your concern! I did cast on the stitches at the armhole opening and I did block my swatch. This yarn actually isn’t what the pattern calls for, just what I wanted to knit it with. But when I did my gauge swatch with the recommended needles, I found that the fabric was too holey for my liking and I felt that with the length/weight of the garment, I’d be better off with a slightly tighter gauge anyway. So I dropped my needle size down by one and am on gauge by doing so. I also don’t think that I am a particularly tight knitter, but it might just appear that way with the current fabric since I am intentionally knitting it at a smaller gauge. Good news is I was able to try the garment on last night and everything is fitting perfectly Pre-blocking and should relax in the exact way I had hoped after blocking! I feel like I’ve done a fair amount of consideration and additional planning for this one, so I’m happy to see things are working out so far

    🌴☀️Loving the balance of your knitting, I’m very much the same. I’ve been wanting a long cardigan as well so I’m working on Joji Locatelli’s Evanescence with a bunch of skeins of Diablo from Hobbii. When I blocked the Big Cozy Cardi by Andrea Mowrey it was nearly twice as wide as it should be…haven’t touched it since (got tendinitis in the process for the first time ever after 30+ yrs of crochet/knitting) so the Evanescence is a real treat. Your Sand Cardigan is coming along nicely, it seems you and I enjoy knitting the same types of garments…all the way down to not being a shawl knitter 🤭 THAT GIFTED YARN THOOOO 🧶 😲so dang beautiful NORAAAA🎉 what a blessing can’t wait to see what you do with that bit. Have you thought at all about spring/summer knits? I always begin my knits the season before it comes so I can ACTUALLY wear it when that season arrives. I most often do the back & front of a garment for try on purposes as well & sometimes the sleeves especially if I suspect some yarn 🐣. I appreciate you so darn much 💐 and sending you a BIG OLE’ TKS for taking the time to make & edit this video. And I wanted to say once again how much I thoroughly enjoyed the latest inspirational roundup video! Such a realistically comfy & cozy bundle of patterns to knit up VERY practical and I think its my fav roundup video on your channel. MINI SKEINS: do you think you could get a pair of fingerless mitts out of those? HAND DYED YARN: In 2024 I will NOT be purchasing ANY!!!! I thought so too! What’s funny is that I love the way that other people wear that cute little Sophie scarf, but I could never imagine myself wearing one. Then I saw this little meshy thing and it just felt more my style. I’m not sure if it’s the idea of having a toasty little scarf around my neck vs. an airy little accessory, but that’s one of my favorite things about knitting-that those little differences from pattern to pattern can be the make or break it detail for someone! Thank you for the compliment!!

    @akaNoraKnits Please let us know! I have been struggling lately with garment knitting, a mini shawl sounds like just the thing I need. I think the patterns I'm choosing will look great on me, and then they don't. So much work, so much money--how have you dealt with that issue? Or have you?

    Hi! I was thinking for your minis, you could make a Musselburgh for yourself and you would not have to weave the ends since they are inside😊

    The Berocco Aerial mohair, held double, for a Lily Kate Makes 'Tonight Top' (sleeveless, high neck) might be smashing under the ultra-long cardigan you're making -- on my screen, it looks like the combinations of color/no-color on both yarn brands might work together?? The extreme texture contrast between the two would be dynamite worn together --

    For the mohair what about the Birds of a feather shawl by Andrea Mowry. She is doing a March to May KAL for both sweaters and shawls. That color way reminded me of that pattern. Are you going to add the stars to the folklore cardigan to make it match Tayler Swifts? I absolutely love that Noro yarn you are working with. I may have ordered some. Thank you for the inspiration.

    I’ll have to look into that one!! Thank you! I’ll have to ask my Aunt if she wants to-I definitely think it would be super cute! It is such a treat to work with!!! I hope it’s as nice to wear too! I’m glad you’re going to play with it too!!!

    I would love to know how to get ahold of your Folklore Cardigan spreadsheet. Do I find it on Ravelry, here, or on Insta? You've inspired me to make one with similar mods for my granddaughter. Hopefully I'll finish it before her Swifty love fades!! Love your podcast and your bravery in tackling knitting projects!!
