I had this kit on mt bench while recovering from back surgery in 1997. It was still there in pieces untouched in 2004 when we were moving and I gave it to a kid that lived in the next building. Have always felt bad for doing that to the poor kid.LOL

The explanation of how you think of these kits is simple. You’re a fan of the hobby. The design, engineering and techniques of the old days and how it got to where it is, is what interest you. I can’t think of one video from you that I didn’t learn something or see something interesting. Looking forward to the next video!👍🏼 I think they had a pink(ish) silver color on those cars when new. I think that would look great.

I thinks it's great that you tackle these older difficult kits that most people overlook, due to the problems it may have. It certainly improves your building skills, and I think also helps to build a confidence level to the point where you don't fear taking on a challenging kit. I think most people are afraid of messing up a kit and then thinking to themselves they are not a good model builder. It's not the case. It's only plastic after all and everyone has a certain level of skill. The one thing I hear from well known modelers, when asked how to get good at building models is that you need to constantly practice. Practice by building & painting lots of kits and not being afraid to try something new or old for that matter. I get where you're coming from when you say building these kits is like traveling back in time to when they first appeared on store shelves. You're like a an archeologist of ancient styrene...the Professor of Jurassic Plastic...lol!

Remember building that when it was "new". And remember, these were built using razor blades, sandpaper from the hardware store and tube glue. And no air brush, just the little bottles from Testors and Pactra and cheap brushes. But it was fun and, since there were few contests (sporting goods store had one a year), you were building almost entirely for yourself (as Chris says).

The divots in the plastic are called sink marks. Usually the result of the plastic being shot at either too low a temperature and/or too low a pressure. My 1/16 scale Revell '87 Firebird GTA, and 1/500 scale Renwal (owned by Revell) Shangri La carrier kit are just ate plum up with them.. body filler time😁 I enjoy your videos a bunch. Suggestion. I built this kit in 1997/8. As a builder of airplanes and cars - build the interior, install into the body and mask the interior. Do the body work and paint. Then unmask the interior and install the top. Also, this car had a brushed stainless steel roof and rocker panels. The lower rear fender should be brushed stainless steel (silver), with chrome trim highlights (bare metal foil). It can be a “booger”, but, it will hone skills. Enjoy.

Well,,what can I say Matthew? I sent that kit kinda as a joke. I cut the kit opened to look at instructions. My response? Ummm,,no! My cousin had a 1/1 just like it. It had a two tone off white and black interior. It had crystal glasses and perfume glasses in the storage areas in back of front seat! crazy! The top WAS stainless steel! Turned on you tube and saw this video ,,all I could think was ( "Oh NO") ! Seriously, I slunk in my chair in shame while watching your video. All I could think was "you like this guy and what he does, did you think he deserved this? ) Point is, I have a new found appreciation of the PASSION you have for what you do! I tip my hat, although feeling slightly guilty ! Can't wait to see what you do with this? Later. PS, It is pronounced BRO_UM. That box color is a deep blue, same as my cousins, a 1958.

Actually the car wasn't any heavier than a modern 300 or Challenger and was considerably smaller than the big cars of the 70's. About the same size as the box-body GM's of the 80's. My 64 is the exact length of any of the Olds and Buick sedans of the 80's. Also worth noting, in 57 that Caddy's direct price competitor was a Rolls Royce. Thanks for sharing the video. I saw this kit in the hobby shop and could not help but buy and build it. Perhaps I am a weird bird too. I also built another very old multipiece body kit, it was a "Replica of 1970 Mercury Cougar XR-7 Eliminator" supposed to be 1:32 scale but in reality is like 1:30 or so. It is so old that I couldn't find the name of the manufacturing company. Anyway, with lots of patience and putty, I made two decent models out of these very old kits. Would like to see how you finished yours.

I did the Pontiac Club De Mer...and it goes together the same way...like a clam shell. I painted all the interior stuff, wheels tires, and inside the body top and bottom. I primed the body parts...and there are 3 of them...then glued the body together. I filled the small crack in the body lines and then mask off all the other stuff and then painted it. It was a long tedious job, but it can be done. If I ever do another one...the body lines will not be filled.

Hey Matt, I think the Bro Ham version of the Cadillac had a stainless steel roof. It would be cool to scuff it up with sandpaper then spray it with a metal color. I'd spray the lower trim the same color then BMF the top edge of that piece. I have a Revell 59 Ford Galaxie Retractable that has a similar multi piece body. The top is also made of a few pieces. I started it a looong time ago, and I think I got the sides on relatively straight. Then I put it back in the box and haven't done anything to it since, lol. I think I know exactly what you mean about enjoying the models from before you were born. I can build an 80s Mustang or Trans Am and go back and relive some of my high school years. But, if I build a model from the 50s and 60s which is the era I really like, I'm transported to a time I never was able to experience. I can put on songs of the time, and watch tv shows and movies of the era, and experience my version at least of a time we will never get back.

Ebay or model roundup website would be a good start to find older kits. As far as paint and glues I'd suggest trying anything and everything to see what works for you.

The lower panel on the body sides was a combination of bright and brushed chrome. Roof is brushed chrome also. You could use paint to simulate the brushed chrome and then BMF the bright trim. I'm thinking the multi-piece body is because the curve of the body side might not allow the interior to fit from either top or bottom if the body was one-piece. You will pick the color you like best. Just saying, my choice would automatically be the almost iridescent Bahama Blue offered on the factory Cadillac. It would be hard to duplicate. www.hiperauto.net/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/Captura-de-pantalla-2020-03-04-a-las-16.31.29.png
