I was referring to my 67 442. Sent it to wrong person.
I have one to build as well! Lol the 1st thing I check out is the wheels. I love good wheel detail!
I'd also consider myself a beginner due to the fact that after about 35 yrs. I have decided to get back into model car building. I had built many many kits when I was young and only had dreams of the detailing that is now so very possible due to all the new products that are available these days. TY 4 sharing. And yes panel liner is not to good for accenting the grills. It is better to make your own solution. I'm working on two 67s that are going to be green and gold and green and chrome. I appreciate your in depth explanation of your technique. Once again TYVM

One of the first things I look at is the body of the car kit. "What will it be like to paint this body?" is the question I ask myself, especially as a handbrush painter.

Mod Podge is great. It comes in gloss and flat so I checked different videos and they all used the gloss. It’s thicker more tacky than Elmers so your windows are less likely to shift or fall out during assembly.
Been using mcw paints since the mid 80,s and love them
Looking good love 67 impalas ….I bought two of these kits but one was a Plymouth when I open box 😂 now I have to get me another good thing they told me to keep the Plymouth and gave money back ….I just subbed your channel I’ll be watching part 2 👍🏻

Nice build. Love that color. Lol the first thing I do when I open a kit is see what parts I can rob off it for other cars then make up my mind if I need another for parts or what not. Good tip on fitting the bumpers and hood before painting. Its always good to sand a little off the hood edges to make room for paint build up

Matt, you've timed this one well! I have had mine stashed away for several years now and realise it's going to need more work on it than I thought! I think it was an all new tool in 1997/98; that's when I bought mine and it is one of the high quality kits AMT was bringing out in that late 1990s period. I tend to check whether everything is intact and the color of the parts, e.g. when a red car is on the box and everything in the box is red, I know I've got my work cut out for me!

Well done Matt! I did the same kit, SAME COLOR and all! But I didn't use black in the rims at all. Went a light gray instead. That is what I seen on most impalas when I looked them up. Still awesome job buddy! Will post mine on ur Facebook group sometime this week 👍🤘

I've found if I paint my exhaust red primer then dry brush it with a steel silver it'll make it look like kinda new pipes starting to rust over.
Hey Matthew those MCW paints can be reduced with lacquer thinner just like testors enamels so they’ll dry almost immediately. Also those smaller parts instead of glueing pieces of sprue I melt the sprue piece just a little and put it in a hidden spot just like you and it pops right of afterwards.
@modelcarvideos5829

Great idea!!
Extra fine black sharpie or micron pen works best
A tip for you is if you use flat black or white use Walmart paint it's made by rustoleum anyway and it's only $1 a can
Late to the party...I have this and an earlier release from 96. The 67 is one of my fav Impalas, along with the 65. I'll probably build one stocvk and the other resto-mod.

Rusr-oleum trim&bumper paint is very close to chase black that GM putts on there cars it is also called under the hood black .
When you are painting with metallic paint the metallic will move as it drys remember to paint in the same direction because if go one direction on the side and go another direction on the it will look like a different color.
I usually like to look at the instructions first to get a good idea of what I'm going to look at. I got one of those kits as well. Trying to score every year Impala so I can and then build them in order. I have used MCW three times now and all of a sudden I can paint some contest cars. Go figure.

is there any way you can make a straight front end for a 55 chevy or a 57 chevy thank you
Back after 23 years
If you have molded in head lights, try giving them a coat of Sally Hanson's hard as nails. Bad part is that you'll have to go into the womens nail polish section of store.

Hi Matthew, I love your videos and the detailed information is great. When do you decide prime and paint versus just paint? You said you painted the frame without primer. I know the 2X paint says it doesn’t need primer but I always doubt that.
@modelcarvideos5829
2 жыл бұрын
I only find it necessary to prime if it's the body.
Im building the four door version of this kit. I messed up the paint on the body. It's been in the strip tank. Hopefully i can prep it better and prime it this time. Maybe the black will come out better 🤷♂️ Great kit otherwise. Not much different then the two door 67 impala.
@modelcarvideos5829
2 жыл бұрын
👍🏻👍🏻
I've watched quite a few of your Videos and I notice you don't use primer before painting. Any reason? When I tried that the paint chipped and wouldn't adhere properly to the body. Also when I prime and then lightly scuff the body, the final painting turns out really nice and flat.
@modelcarvideos5829
2 жыл бұрын
Actually I primed and sanded after primer. Yeah if I didn't prim it would look terrible.
