Though in real life Vivian Vance and William Frawley hated each other. Rumor has it Vivian was at a restaurant when she learned of his death. She was so happy that she had a round of drinks for everyone to celebrate.

@@SashGirl34 William Frawley was a terribly mean drunk.Desi was said to hVe made him sign an agreement if his drinking caused problems he was docked severely in payment.The cast of My three sons said his drinking and meaness was a problem on that show .Its sad but it happens alot.

fun fact, when Ricky first slipped on the rice it was pure accident, when Arnaz heard how much the audience was laughing he decided to purposely slip again. thats why the first slip looked so convincing because it was real

Everybody loves the part where Lucy and Ethel are at the chocolate factory ruining the chocolate but Ricky and Fred ruining dinner is in my opinion the funnest part of this episode.

I agree! It's an underrated moment and always makes me laugh. 😂

Best thing about this type of comedy is it transcends generations and is forever timeless. A show like this elicits the same laughter from a 70 year old man as it does a 7 year old girl.

"I Love Lucy " was sponsored for many years solely by Phillip Morris... and Lucy and Desi even did commercials for them which aired during their program.

Funny thing is, in real life, Desi Arnaz was the cook of the family! I read in Lucille Ball's autobiography that he had this amazing spaghetti sauce recipe and wouldn't serve it until it was just right. I hope he passed it on to his children.

I LOVE seeing these bits of the episodes in color! that girl in audience must have damn near pissed her pants screaming/laughing so hard! llol

Then later on when Lucy and Ethel were boxing the chocolates, wow she must have probably been on the floor laughing so hard she couldn't breathe. =P This was when they didn't depend on constant retakes/script revisions on shoot night for the best audience reaction. It was all done like a play. And the audience absolutely loved it.

I read a story that when Desi was considering hiring Frawley many people warned him about Frawley's drinking. Desi spoke to Frawley about it and told him if he was late even once or showed up drunk he would be immediately fired. Frawley was never late and never once showed up drunk.

Really? I saw an interview from Lucy and Desi's daughter, Lucie Arnaz, saying that Desi was going to give Frawley three chances and then be fired. But anyways I guess it doesn't matter. Frawley always showed up to work and was a complete success as Fred Mertz for the whole series 😄

amddance00, you're right. Desi mentions that in his bio. The first two times he could cover for William, but if there was a third then there was nothing Desi could do. And yes there was never a time Bill showed up late or drunk. RIP Bill.

Actually, actress Vivian Vance almost quit the show *because* Frawley would show up drunk. The two, despite playing husband and wife, hated each other.

They should have invented color tv sooner. Most people had B&W back then. They said it was too expensive. When we moved to a place I went a store in 1962 and they had color tv's everywhere. Most couldn't really afford so we settled for B&W.

I agree. I don't even remember this scene, but I've seen the candy factory scene countless times. It's another example of how Lucy got all the attention while the others didn't get the credit they deserved.

My favorite part was when Fred was scooping the rice with a cup and a little spoon

everyone loves this episode because of Lucy and Ethel at the candy factory. But nothing will ever strike me funnier than Ricky and Fred contemplating dinner in the Ricardo kitchen.

I’ve always loved the I Love Lucy television show. I literally watch it EVERY SINGLE MORNING. I’m pretty sure it’s on from 5:00AM until about 7:30AM on the Hallmark channel. It’s just an awesome, and a classic television series. I hope it NEVER goes off of the air. One more thing, I love how they put it in color, I do like it. But, I honestly prefer the original black and white. (Rest in peace to ALL of the cast!) #ILoveLucy #Classic

After watching this episode about a zillion times I still yell at Ricky and Fred to turn off the stove.😆

we all miss Lucy and Desi they worked very hard on there tv series and real life taking care of there kids hope they are okay in heaven plus others passed away on earth! I hope we do have a new life the bible says and if we don't thank you guys and women take care of your special family at home these days the future isn't to funny at all chin up better days are coming.

The most interesting part was that next scene after this one. I could tell that was one of the most famous scenes from the entire series when the girls were packaging chocolate 😂

At 2:23 the lady saying "Oh my god" was Lucy's mom in the audience. She attended every taping.

Lucy Calls the President in 1977 was the first show that her mother couldn't attend, because of her death 2 months prior, and Lucy actually had to yell cut because it suddenly hit her and got her emotional. Also, during the rehearsals, Vivian Vance found out she had cancer. :(

I like most b&w tv shows and movies. But colorized Twilight Zone eps would be MIND-BLOWING. Even adding visual effects to Twilight Zone classics, like with Star Trek TOS would be massive.

I’ve never seen the color ride version of the job switching episode of I Love Lucy either I can’t believe how vivid the colors are it is amazing the difference between that and black-and-white the pink stands out so bright in the aprons it’s unbelievable it is so funny that episode where they are falling all over the floor on the slippery surface

Those chickens gave me a visceral feeling of existential dread that not even the likes of H.P. Lovecraft could put into words

At 3:15 Ricky's slip and fall wasn't supposed to happen, but it got a big enough laugh. The best things ever are off script.

When the rice starts overflowing, they did everything except the right thing and that was to take the pot off the burner. But if they did that, it wouldn't be funny. Great scene.
