This scene was not shot in the NJ Pine Barrens. It was shot in Harriman State Park in NY. Near Lake Tiorati. In the closing scene, there is an aerial shot of the lake. I have fished that spot and skated on that lake during winter

I see a lot of debate about the Russian being alive or dead. But can we all agree that without a doubt the Russian back tracked and stole Paulies car? Because there’s no way anyone else found that vehicle in such a short time frame. He might have died after the escape but for sure he left those woods long before they did.

THe Pine Barrens does exist. It covers a significant portion of southern NJ. This scene however was shot in Harriman State Park in Rockland County NY
