He goes out of his way to do two things. He intentionally key deaths for hahaha onegaluzzors off children I died can you believe it? Or he changes a normal coin into a safety coin so he can spend an extra hour learning and playing the level. It’s just annoying

To be fair, it is quite easy to ignore the point system's existence, because in the vast majority of Mario games, points are completely useless.

My dad and I used to make high score sheets to put on the refrigerator for Super Mario Bros 1. I've known how the points worked for 33 years now. Carl discovered it like last week. Hilarious.

As a KZread viewer, I don't mind if you get the safety coin because I don't have to watch you replay the whole level after you keydie.

- Misses the jump 4 times in a row by bonking the ceiling "This isn't possible!" - Jumps without hitting the ceiling, succeeds easily

Only saw the title of the video, im already so excited to see how creative this level is gonna be. Honestly geek low key created one of the best level competitions ive seen

The way the flag works is like how jumping on enemies works. First gives base, second gives 2x, third gives 4x, fourth gives 8x, everything else gives a 1UP (which is explained in the video). Then each second counts for 100 points, I think

Yep. To put it another way, its 1000 for 1st mushroom, doubled to 2000 for 2nd mushroom, doubled again to 4000 for the 3rd. 4+2+1=7.

I think the general case (when you chain enemies with a jump, a star, a slope slide or a shell) is 200, 400, 800, 1,000, 2,000, 4,000, 8,000, and then all 1-Ups, but starting the chain with some enemies (or chaining them with the flagpole) cause the chain to skip the first 3 steps and start at 1000

I’ve thought before that if I were to get SMM2 and make a hard level, I might include like six enemies enclosed by ground at the end, just to make sure everyone playing Endless gets their three 1UPs.

I’m so happy Carl is still just as, if not more, excited to play a game that’s been out for years, as when it first came out

Watching that first level and your slow descent into distrust with every item in the game was quite magnificent

There needs to be a troll course where, due to sprite limit shenanigans, if the safety coin is *not* the last key coin collected, it is *impossible* to avoid keydeath before getting in the key door - in other words, a course where you can only avoid key death by saving the safety coin for last.

i realized that just making arbitrary rules for the player to follow is a really genius way of making mario maker stages almost closer to romhacks, creates lots of interesting new ways to troll and be creative

i was so drunk watching it and the super short Slider Theme at 23:40 threw me into a such laughting fit, i got even more lightheaded

I love trolls like the vine over the door section teleporting the player above said door and holding up makes you re-enter it😂

"Goes me on the cookie" is a bit less powerful than "Drives me crazy". It''s only for slight Annoyances and usually is said when no or very little anger is involved. When things are annoying and making you actually angry, we would actually use the same, as "Das treibt mich in den Wahnsinn" literally translates to "This drives me (into) crazyness".

It's mind blowing to me that he didn't know how the flag worked. I guess he doesn't play endless where getting 1-ups matters a lot but it still surprised me.

I think he knew that getting the top didn't give any points, he just forgot. It was the rest of the point mechanics that he wasn't aware of, because it's never mattered before. In fact, I'm surprised that levels record the fasted time but not the highest score, it just makes the point system that much more... pointless.

I know that in _Super Mario _*_Land_* on the Game Boy, earning 50K points also earned a “continue”, but I never owned an NES/cared for the first “ _Bros._ “ game (Also, let’s just be grateful Carl didn’t have to try to figure out the “fireworks” mechanic… 😅)

I recently revisited my hometown and discovered everything had changed. Nothing seemed like I remembered it. New buildings, missing buildings, like a piece of me had been taken out and replaced with a prosthetic. But, then I come home and watch Carl fall for the same trolls over and over again. Well, life is full of surprises, but at least we know some things never change. (100% a joke. Love this channel and Carl's a great guy.)

Only a few minutes in, but this is my favorite fourth wall concept. Makes you care about something that doesn’t usually matter. And it makes you question decisions that would have been automatic.

I do find it interesting that hitting the top of the flag pole, which is fairly likely at the end of the level, results in a gain of exactly 15,000 points due to at least 4 enemies dying and the 1UP giving no bonus points.

KZread doesn't care if you keydeath. Your editor usually skips almost all of the repeat parts after you keydeath anyway. lol. in this instance, it took an additional approximate 30secs for you to get to the keydoor again.

Funnly enough, today I learned that some people really get mad at him getting the safety coin. I never really minded it, most levels are even aware of this fact, so they give you a key anyway.

Now that I think about it, it's weird that each level will record the fastest time, but not the highest score. What even is the point in the point system?

You got 7200 points when you grabbed the flag at 16:14 because the game gave you points for the big mushrooms that were off-screen. 1000 + 2000 + 4000. Then the extra 200 from the flag. You see, for every power up/enemy on screen (loaded) when the flag is grabbed, you get a certain amount of points from each, until they start counting as 1-ups. (The flag doesn’t double your points.)

I literally paused it when you died to the Pokeys and pulled someone close who doesn't watch you often and said, "Watch this: I bet that he doesn't even realize he has a key here as he's killing himself and the next scene is going to be him collecting a coin he shouldn't collect to get the key he already had and that's going to put him over 15,000 points, so he'll have to restart, and he's going to brain freeze and be like, 'Wait, how do I get a key then?...'". I only wish I had started the sentence with, "I BET..." You're getting too predictable Larl! :P

There's an expression in Japanese "猫の手も借りたい", which translates to something like "We want to borrow even the cat's hands" which means you are extremely busy.. I.E. to the point that you'd like even the cat to help

I'm glad to hear about the complement system. Naturally, its role is even more complex than what is mentioned here (medical science lol). There is an issue that can happen with the system where certain parts of it just can straight up not exist. The more obvious things is that it can make infections harder to fight, but what's not so obvious is the system's role with medications. You see, medications and their metabolites can actually bind to antibodies as well. Part of the complement system is not only fight off infections in relation to antibodies, but also keep the antibodies clear of things otherwise harmless. This is important since if they are not adequately cleared, then something known as an immune complex can develop, which would, in an ironic twist of fate, cause the body to overreact to things it shouldn't normally react to. In other words, you become allergic to a bunch of seemingly random things.
