    I booted up project 64 to fuck around with the idea. I did a control test. I did the first star sighted. I know that star like the back of my hand and thought it was my best chance at a blindfolded star. I’ve been playing Mario 64 since I was a child. I couldn’t even find the path to get on the mountain once I got disoriented once. I managed to get to the chain chomp before getting bogged down in the lack of awareness of where I was. Every adjustment had to be INTENTIONAL if I was going to do it properly. One little screw up, and you’re off course for good.

He could've said "I totally got you all!" to his viewers, congratulated the people in chat who saw through the BS and then taken everyone through bits ofw the run and pointed out how ridiculous it was to think he was blindfolded. Everyone would've laughed and he could've kept his credibility, perhaps even gaining new fans. The fact it was only "a joke" after being disproven proves that it was never a joke. It makes sense that there's a lot of cheating - there is an inflation of people doing speedrunning in general, so naturally you're also going to come across more bad apples. If anything, it's a good thing that people are able to catch these cheaters because the alternative scenario is that they're never caught and idiots like this go under the radar and have illegitimate times on the leaderboards

    @@isaakyhsialf4369 yeah but at one point there is so much they can do to hide it if more and more people knows about the cheats , it becomes a question if its even worth it to put all the effort. But still , as you said , there mist be some fake runs still up there unfortunately . I have been looking at some videos catching fake runs and some of them are 10 years old , due to not having the means at the time to figure out some of the cheats that we have now , and probably will still happen in the future where we will find that some of the present runs are actuallu faked.

  • @CuriousKey

    @CuriousKey

    3 жыл бұрын

    The issue is twofold - first more people are entering speedrunning, so there's a larger pool of players, it following that you will have more cheaters. But also as speedrunning becomes more popular, the perceived "clout" of having a verified run is increased, increasing the incentive towards cheating. It should be expected that after passing a certain critical mass, speedrunning will experience massive increases in cheating.

  • @ZelosSama

    @ZelosSama

  • @CuriousKey

    @CuriousKey

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@ZelosSama There are potential issues there too - if for example it ever becomes the case that the verifying institution makes money from traffic (ads, donations etc) then you already have an incentive for them to accept highly popular runs, regardless of whether they are faked. This has already been an issue in the past - "celebrities" in speedrunning have been subject to far looser standards due to the crowd they draw. So I say it's about more than having merely enough moderation, you also need moderation that has no incentive towards capitulation.

    "That was literally all just muscle memory" Muscle memory, bah! By that logic, I should be able to go through Dark Souls blindfolded as I've been playing for 4 years myself. But no, as usual that's not how this works. Yes it's a small bit of muscle memory but it's mostly audio and memorising the maps, not to mention a shit ton of skill. It takes a lot of practice and concentration. You cannot beat Dark Souls blindfolded aside from bosses. LLL, Fire Sea, Bowser throws, the sub in DDD and the 1UPs are the biggest reveal of him cheating. This is just simply, *_P A T H E T I C._*

If you watch the original video and pay attention to the chat, you'll see 1-2 names constantly spam the same 3-4 messages the entire time. I just watched this video on charliebrowns channel and now again here. After watching it the first time i thought a major red flag was pretending it was only his third(!) try. Now i noticed another detail. It's his third try and he has a time of 40+ minutes. He then pretends he already did it faster with 33 minutes, which would be second place worldwide as charliebrown stated. So, this guy is so good that he already got the second best time worldwide in such a hard category at first or second try? 😅
