In this week’s episode we cover:
1. I have just finished the body of my first ever colour work jumper and started thinking about how to block my project when I finish the sleeves. My question is do I sew in my ends first before I block or do I sew them in when I finish blocking? My thinking is that if I do it after blocking I will have a better chance of evening out my colour work which is a bit uneven in tension. What are your thoughts? Love watching you and learning so much xx.
2. I would love to try my hand at designing and writing knitting patterns. What resources or practices helped you when you first started? Is there anything you wished you did differently at the beginning? What helped you develop your personal design style?

3. Dear Andrea, thank you for all your amazing answers! I'm an English style knitter and who knits pretty tight. You talk quite often about that you need to change your tools and not the way you knit when it comes to knitting looser or tighter. I really want to try and knit something with colorwork, but I'm afraid the floods will be to tight. I tried wooden needle, to knit looser, but I don't like them (because I'm clumpsie and break them accidentally by sitting on them). Right now I really like to knit with the Chiagoo metal needles. I know that knitting continental will also loosen my stitches, but I don't know if I want to learn a complete different way to knit, just so that I can knit some colorwork... The dilemmas... Do you know something else that I can try? Thank you in advance!
4. I have been intrigued by brioche knitting and want to try it, especially a brioche sweater. And I like to have short rows on my knitted sweater. My question if Should I knit brioche in the round and then when I am knitting the short rows I should knit brioche flat. Am I thinking correctly or am I wrong and I hope you understand my question😄

During this video you said you knit for yourself and that shines through because that’s what makes you happy. Don’t feel you have to knit other stuff, because some people might not want to knit a sweater. Stay authentic, your work is beautiful!

For the person who knits too tightly I recommend trying Brioche. I'm a continental knitter who used to knit at a 'normal' tension. Then in about 2016 I discovered Brioche and spent a couple years knitting almost exclusively brioche. When I tried to knit a vanilla pair of sox after that I couldn't even get gauge with 000 needles! For garments I've had to go down 3 or 4 needle sizes AND a pattern size or two to get gauge. After a year or two of a self imposed NO Brioche projects my gauge has tightened up enough to be able to knit sox again with needle size 1. All my metal needles (which I used to prefer) are waiting for me if I ever tighten up even more. So to anyone knitting too tightly I recommend BRIOCHE. It's still my biggest knitting love that now I've learned to take in smaller doses!

I'm a gardener first. So summer is busier than winter. I'm also pretty slow, so if I can get thru a sweater in a winter I'm doing well. I aspire to get much faster!

What a lovely relationship you have with your sister-in-law. I can relate to hobbies becoming a business. I bought myself a camera and ended up creating a business which went really well but it was fairly short lived (couple of years) as I really wanted to take it back to a hobby. Sadly I only get my camera out on odd occasions now. Knitting on the other hand, I can do all day and everyday. Enjoying getting to grips with knitting on the go and using your #ourwanderingwips. As a suggestion to you thoughts on knitting other things aside from your favoured sweaters, would you consider designing some fingerless mitts/gloves (or both) for the colder days of walking and knitting 😊

I wanted to share a great suite of software in case anyone is looking to move away from Adobe, because it's really expensive to keep the subscription up with them. I've used the Affinity programs, and I think they're more than enough for pattern writing, and you only have to buy them once. I don't work for them or get anything from them, but I know times are tough and just wanted to share a good alternative. 😊 Loved this episode! And totally agree on the creative job and sometimes keeping things a hobby. I went to school for art, and I ruined my love of painting and drawing by making it a job. I refuse to do that with any of my creative outlets moving forward, and it's okay if anyone else feels the same way. Edited to add: OMG! I just realized that the Ashoka shawl is a Knit Graffiti design. That shawl is gorgeous, and I absolutely plan on making it. Ahsoka is the best!

Hi i so much liked the question on designing and the insights of not one but 2 designers. I'd like to comment ona frustration of mine: multiple charts. I find them in lace designs in shawls than in other items. Imagine having 3 charts, an insane number of stitches, & no clue how they fit together. Often i dont know if im on track until the end of the row when i have 10 st left over. Anyone else have this problem?

Hi Andrea, I have a question about neckband construction and which styles are most robust and likely to hold their shape. Both my adult son and my husband yank their sweaters off by the neck whereas me and my daughter cross our arms and peel them up and over from the hem. I made them sweaters for the first time last year with 1x1 rib crew necks which seem to have held up ok but I recently made my son one with a tubular squishy edge…I don’t know whether the extra stretch will be a good thing or a bad thing yet?! I’m also wondering whether I should be opting for a wider style at the neck. I don’t think I can re-train either of them and I’m rather too fond of them both to re-label either as “non-knitworthy” 😅 Am I overthinking this or should it be a consideration when knitting for someone who doesn’t handle your handknits in quite the same way that you do?? I know I can always go back and fix any slackness with knitting elastic, but if I can start with a better construction then I’m quite happy to compromise on the style in the first place 😊 p.s it’s definitely sheepskin footwear and wooly weather here in Queensland Australia and I’m loving having my newly finished Shift Cowl to layer up with xx
