That's because this demo actually was written during the ATS sessions, and was later re-done for Living Things. It's called Primo (I'll be gone longform demo 2010). So it's not a coincidence that it fits ATS thematically. When they redid it for LT, they changed a lot of these lyrics to fit that album more instead.

Primo will always be my favourite version of this song

He didn't make this. This is a real LP demo called "Primo", it was released on LPU. And yes it was made during the ATS sessions.

I think they at the time were overcomplicating their song ideas and if they had focused on the fundamentals they would have been.... modern dad rock legends 😅😅
