    Sucker punch doesn't beat rage powder, your king gambit had safety goggles, that's what let you ignore rage powder. Extreme Speed would hit before rage powder or any other move with +2 priority sucker punch is only +1.

    @@Ludvixalso a few more things about sucker punch is that if your pokemon's speed is higher and uses a priority move the slower pokemon with sucker punch fails What's priority moves? Priority moves are moves that ignores the speed or turn order such as in trick room the fastest pokemon moves last and the slowest pokemon moves first but with priority moves it ignores the turn order even if you are slower the move that has the highest priority is helping hand at +5 and the lowest priority is trick room at -7 sucker punch has +1 so if you use extremespeed and the opponent uses sucker punch the sucker punch fails 1 extra tip when playing pvp you need to calculate what your opponents wants to do with their team I recommend watching other videos on yt with the other teams The reason why your protect didn't work is because moves like hyperspace hole,phantom force,shadow force,and pokemon like urshifu that uses contact moves always go through protect because they have an ability called unseen fist that goes through protect The basic thing you want to perfect first is what you want to do with your team utilize your pokemon and abilities,looking at the popular meta pokemon and try countering them,speed control,always have PROTECT unless your pokemon is using a choice item,cover your weaknesses and support moves

    A tip for everyone that wants to get into competitive pokemon. Just play random battles. Theres singles and doubles random battles and it skip the whole teambuilding process so you can familiarize yourself with the moves, abilities and matchups. You can even remember that Illumise exist. Random battles can even be a good inspiration to create your own sets, as defaults are taken from sample sets.

    I originally thought picking VGC was a weird choice but I realized that since it's the only format officially supported by the Pokémon Company it gives you the avenue to the in person community if you want to continue. Also, pro tip when using Showdown: There are commands in chat that can help you out. There are /data and /weak that are probably most helpful. Type into the chat like "/data Dragonite" and it will pull up the Pokémon's Base Stats, Type, and Abilities. You can also look for Abilities, Moves, and Items like "/data Multiscale", "/data Draco Meteor", and "/data Leftovers". /weak brings up the Pokémon's or Type's Weaknesses, Resistances, and Immunities. Just type like "/weak Tatsugiri" for the Pokémon or "/weak Steel" for the Type in case they Tera. Some Pokémon have specific forms that have different Types and/or Stats so for them you'd have to type in like "/data Wishiwashi-School", "/data Ninetales-Alola, and "/weak Venusaur-Mega". Make sure when you type you use / because typing just "data Oranguru" will put that plain text in chat. / gives only you the information, but if you're playing with your friend and wanna show them something type in "!data Porygon2" or "!weak Zacian-Crowned" and it will show both of you.

    I've really been enjoying this series. It's surprising how fun it is to watch people learn new games from knowing basically nothing about them. Really puts into perspective a lot of stuff you take for granted. It helps that your script is really well written and you aren't afraid of admitting when you just don't know basic mechanics the first time they come up. Could never be me, I'm a chronic googler when it comes to competitive games. As for the obligatory game recommendation, Omega Strikers is a game that came out a few months ago and is a ton of fun. It's a MOBA style game, but instead of being focused around farming and taking objectives over 45 minutes, It's and sci-fi sports game with matches taking around 20 minutes. Basically, you play 3v3 hockey, but with weapons and superpowers, and at certain points throughout the match you take a short break to choose power-ups. It's one of those games that looks simple at a glance, but once you get going, you realize it has a lot of depth.

  • @BTBlackheart
    @BTBlackheart10 ай бұрын

    Hey, I'm the BTBlackheart that's around 11:27. My friend watched this video and noticed I was in it and let me know that I was featured. I was also just learning VGC this year! I started Pokemon with Blue and then Gold when I was a kid and they were released. Unfortunately, I didn't have any of the handheld systems that the games continued to be released on, so I never got to play any of them. I'm an adult with money now, though, so I bought a Switch and Pokemon Scarlet, and I decided that if this was going to be the first Pokemon game that I was going to play on release in years, I was going to do everything that I could, including VGC. I attended Portland Regionals where I took 262/469 players. I actually lost two rounds due to scheduling conflicts, so I could have potentially done better, but oh well. I brought Choice Specs Tera Steel Tera Blast Rotom-W to kill Flutter Manes, and that worked out really well. I also brought Breloom as a meta choice against the Ruin Pokemon that had just been released, as they were all part Dark type. I one-shot a Chi-Yu with Mach Punch Adamant Breloom, so I was very happy to see it work. It also would do like 40% to Ting Lu, which couldn't do much against Breloom. Here is the paste for what I brought: pokepast.es/c901e14da8256fac I ended up going to the Fresno Regionals as well, where I went 86/285 players. My goal was to go positive at a Regional, which I managed, so I was happy with that. I brought Grimmsnarl, who was great. If I was going to change something I would have looked into my offensive Ting Lu calcs because my Ting Lu ended up not being able to OHKO bulky Chi-Yu. That's relevant because Justin Tang, who was a killer player this year winning multiple Regionals, and I got paired to fight, and he had a bulky Chi-Yu with Nasty Plot. Lol. Sufficed to say, I lost that match pretty badly, but I did pretty well at the tournament overall, for my standards as a new player. Here's the paste for the Fresno team: pokepast.es/179f3f12976c749f Now that Regulation D is out I still play sometimes. I'm currently tinkering with a "semi-Room" team inspired by Ryosuke Kosuge's 2013 Worlds 2nd place finish team. That team, and the Pokemon introduced in Regulation D, share a lot of things, like Cresselia, Landorus, Heatran, and Thundurus. I figured I could use that as a basis and then go from there. Here's his original paste: pokepast.es/a13fc28ce1008526 Here's the team I've been tinkering with: pokepast.es/3e3b78c3106b2a49 So the idea is drop Conkeldurr for Iron Hands, because Iron Hands is super buff and fills a similar role as Conkeldurr; Hit stuff go big mode in Trick Room. Flutter Mane is a replacement for Tyranitar I guess just because Flutter Mane is extremely strong and I need another damage dealer. It's a work in progress. Lol. Here's a game I played a few days ago: replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen9vgc2023regulationd-1923860587-wppkitqq6y5foqmqbb9w2tvrthj1750pw Anyway, this was a wicked video. It was really cool to see you thinking critically about the games. You summarized what you were losing to very succinctly and made adjustments. That's really awesome to see in real time. If you want to battle sometime, you can message me and we can play some games. Lol. I'd love to get a rematch if you want to play.

    think about singles and doubles as a chess middlegame versus a chess endgame in their complexity, where endgames are like singles. you have to calculate very far and accurately, and the number of forseeable gamestats is much higher than in doubles due to the small number of turns a singles game has.

    I’ve been trying a burn, freeze or paralysis into protect build but I’m not exactly sure how to do it, I need somebody quite tanky. Will o wisp sounded amazing at first but the accuracy is so low, confuse ray seems a lot better for success rate

    Safety goggles makes the mon using them inmune to powder moves, it doesnt make u inmune to sleep. The most common move to get u to sleep is spore, which is a powder move, but, for example u can still get slept with hypnosis

    in my opinion, the knowlage gap learning phase of pokemon singles/doubles is the most fun part of playing pokemon because you just need to play alot to learn what every relevent pokemon does. and when you think you know everything you will forget x ability does this thing and use that knowlage for future plays and its really cool.

    16:40 I don't want to sound like a jerk, but Icy Wind is a guaranteed -1 to your speed when you get hit by it. I think you confused the stat with the percentage being shown. @ 19:20 the damage you showed is a "damage roll", there are 16 possible amounts of damage, going from the lowest percentage shown to the highest one. 28:08 Heat Wave didn't miss twice, it had a 90% chance to hit Magneton & Mimikyu separately. The game does the accuracy check on one pokemon first, and then does a whole new one on the second one. The accuracy shown on the move only factors in the chance to hit one opponent and not necessarily both. Unless you mean it missed twice in a row, in that case that's just unfortunate. 29:35 Safety Goggles blocks all the "powder" moves, like sleep, stun, and poison powder for example. 32:30 In case you didn't know, the reason the crit killed is because critical hits bypass all the opponents stat buffs as well as Light Screen and Reflect. That's also why they forfeited. 34:30 press +, that pulls up all the stat changes and weather/terrain/trick room turns remaining. Anyways, I hope you liked your time playing Pokemon, if you'd like a recommendation, then you might wanna try out Gen 7 DOU (Doubles OU) next. DOU works the same as VGC except that you use the full team of 6 instead of just 4. Since you liked Torkoal, then Mega Charizard Y would be perfect for you, as it sets up sun once it mega evolves, is pretty fast compared to most of the tier, and it's Overheat & Heat Waves are easily the strongest fire attacks you'll be using, not including anything from Ubers (essentially the tier for legendaries & broken pokemon).
