I don't know if your parents are still together but I experienced it and even if the older sister thinks it's the good thing to act like his mother I don't think she should... When my parents split up my sister ( I have one older sister and one younger brother ) tried to take my father "place" and she thought she could have authority on me and my brother but from my point of vue, we are born as siblings so we should have the same place. Taking care of him is really sweet of her but going behind this line and trying to act as she has something to tell him about his life with his friend or correct his behavior is not something she is in the right place to do. But don't get me wrong the brother HAVE TO respect his sister i'm just saying that they both should treat eachover as equal... (Sorry for my english i'm french...)

It's true that both of them are in the wrong, but I think that its more of a matter when she started acting like this and wanting to step a little into the role of mom. If it was the last couple of years then it's obvious why he rebels even though it shouldn't be that harsh. If you go most of your life one way, and then suddenly someone starts trying to act as your mom it can be unbearable. Plus he's almost 15...I would have hated that when I was that age. I'm an older sister but I got lucky me n my brother have always seen more eye to eye.

brieisbored Although she's the breadwinner and caretaker of the family, in taking over the mom role, she is also in the wrong in bc she unknowingly became overbearing. Indeed, loving and caring for someone means what it means: making food, doing things or chores for them, protecting them. At the same time, love also means giving that person their own space. Her brother sees her as someone who is telling him what to do all the time and handling all his personal business at school for him rather than, being a sister to listen and to support him. In loving and caring, we think we are supposed to provide everything. Loving and caring also means learning to step back and allowing your loved one to fall and grow on their own. The sad thing about this is that she is still a kid and still growing into her own person, but she had to grow up faster and take the role of the mom bc she had to. The father isn't wrong when he says that she can barely take care of herself. Well duh she's still a kid. Bc she's a kid having to act as an adult, this is why things have become what they have become. I don't blame the bro for saying that it seems like an act. He sees thru it, but he's still young and doesn't understand it bc he's the fav of the family, being a boy, lucky him (bro is so spoiled). Now I'm not taking the men's side. It is poor parenting on the dad's part. He should be the adult. Unfortunately, he's having troubles of his own. They all are, they all have their issues, especially during this time when their family is falling apart. They do not know how to rely on each other. They only know how to rely on themselves, closing themselves off from each other, and blaming each other more.

I hate when I see concerns like this one where people prefer sons over daughters. I got so triggered when I heard her friend say how their relatives favorites the brother. I mean even the boy knows he's everyone's favorite not bc he's a good kid but bc he's a boy. I hope this kind of mindset changes for people in the future. Daughters are just as important.

crystal Yeah ikr, bc he knows that he's the fav, he thinks it's okay to disrespect his sister and probably females in general. I understand his point of view when the sister over steps the boundary, as shes not supposed to be the mom. But the brother treats her whatever he wants bc he sees the dad and family doing it. BC he's allowed to treat her that way, he thinks it okay and acceptable to do so. It'd easy for him to continue to be that way bc he knows that can get away with behaving like that.

If also depends on how strong and protective your parents are. On my mother side of family, all elders totally disregard gender and it’s all fine. While on my dad side of family, my grandma still prefer boys but too bad for her that my dad always want an only daughter so my grandparents cannot complain, my dad didn’t let them touch me. When my aunts rant about how I should do some tasks because I’m a girl and their kids are boys I can just bash them and order them to do the task themselves. my dad never stop me, which also cause my grandma to keep quiet as well.

everyone seems to be missing the point: Why did mom leave? bet dad treats the daughter just like he did his wife. And little brother learned to be disrespectful from watching his dad do it to his wife all his life. Misogyny is truly a disease and the Dad is a classic case. Every time his daughter has a request he follows back with a "well what about me". Maybe it is time to live on your own or just stop taking care of them, you are not the wife and mother, she left for what I am sure is a pretty good reason. Just because they are family doesnt mean you should allow them to be toxic towards you.

MsJackson1330 I would have to disagree because the mother cut off ties with her kids too, so she probably didn't want to be one or handle the responsibilities that come with it. Also, it is not entirely the brothers. He is just just acting out because she is trying to act like a mother, when she is just his sister.

In korea when couples divorce I heard it was the norm for the kids to stay with the father since they are still on the family registry and thats not immature. a woman doesnt have to tolerant a toxic household. I feel bad that she left her children but how incompetent of a human must the husband have been for her to leave. korean women dont just get divorced. they stay even when abused physically and emotionally as evidenced by these concerns on HC throughout the years.

Max Tan If things were possible to be worked out, I don't think she would've had to leave. Persinally, I don't think any mother would want to leave her kids. Especially such a great daughter. The father must have been really bad, he probably didn't allow her to leave, but it was so bad that she had to get out of there. This is what I think. Also, if family problems could be worked out in the end and people would actually try listening to their family members concerns and complaints, then no one would leave and have conflicts like this.

ranabhola I'm seeing this sort of comment a lot and can't help but think it must be coming from teenagers. Puberty is wreaks havoc on the body, including emotions.(Hormones anyone?) Soo many have no idea how awful they were until college at least. Add a spice of divorce, a sister trying to fill a position she shouldn't and trying to be something she can't, and you get a mess.

Have you ever went through puberty? It felt like you're on a rollercoaster every single day, 24/7, and some who realized how severe they are hates it. But you can't change hormones and feelings, teenagers who are unlucky enough to realize how severe they are in puberty got no chance. If they try to change and act nice when they keep on surpressing their feelings due to their pubertal hormones, it may damage them psychologically in the long run. It may be true that it's not an 'excuse', but it sure is one hell of a real problem.

Puberty is not an excuse, it's just a matter controlling your emotions. If it's a valid excuse, just imagine how much will the students disrespect their teachers. And on the divorce part, I know it's hard but it's still not an excuse to disrespect other people.

Yeah, all of their anger and frustration at each other seems to come from their own brokenness and sadness from within their own selves. Its hard for all of them. They don't know how to handle themselves, except expressing it to each other in anger and argument. It's unfortunate that they are unable to empathize with each other, by considering the other persons view, of their own actions that they are putting forth upon that other person. Bc of the situation they are in: not being in good financial conditions, the mom just left, them being a patriarchal family, that means the family's falling apart, they only know how to hold it in until they explode. And this makes everything worse! Where one word said triggers another without either recognizing such an endless, vicious cycle.

I think this concern is much deeper than just the boy is going through puberty. I think that the mother left just 1 year ago has something to do with his sadness. The sister shouldn't try to act like a mother to her brother. I understand she is trying to do her best but that is not her job. She is not the mother. What is this father talking about??.. He said she takes good care of him and the brother. Jeeze!... She is neither a mother nor a wife. The father should be the one who takes care of the kids. He is the one who is lacking in responsibility and that create problems.

If she doesn't do it no one else in the family will. life isnt as fair as you make it seem. When a parent abandons their family, the older sibling always has to grow up faster than they should have to or they watch their siblings and remaining parent fall into a shit hole. This family is very male superior oriented so I'm sure neither of them would clean/cook for themselves if she didnt. Plus she is their only source of income at the moment. Life isn't as easy when your parent abandons you and leaves one single especial in a poor situation. She has a younger sibling and a father who can't work due to health issues. She cant leave them homeless and her brother to grow up with no family member to talk to as the dad said himself he's not good at expressing or talking. Again can't just drop family when you love them and you are a caring/non-selfish

I get what you are saying but still, I don't buy it. If she would not do it. Hunger would make you do it. I understand that the father currently is not able to work because of his surgery and I can accept that she is helping until her father can return to work. .I can also accept that she continues to help the family with a small amount of money after father starts to work. But that was not really what I reacted to I reacted to that she take a role as a mother and that the father seems quite a weak person. She is carrying too heavy responsibility on her young shoulders and she doesn't feel any support from her father. That's why they are on this show. The family may be male superior but we don't need to accept it. That is just my opinion. I, my self grew up in a similar environment. A mother who left and I was left with my father. I feel sorry for this girl but I feel also sorry for this young brother. I believe the problem here is much bigger and deeper than what with get to know. It can't be been easy for them when their mother left them.

just tell me why Ikr, puberty doesn't mean we listen to the kids and allow them to turn into brats. It is the time we discipline them. The time where we show them that they are not the ones in charge, bc they can't even think straight at this time in their life. Their egos are stretched beyond the limits! Puberty should be the time that we make sure we discipline our kids even if it's tough to refuse them. (Discipline them accordingly, of course, especially when they are crossing the line. Not discipline as in restricting them.) Respect and disrespect is a taught and learnt behavior.

The sister is not his mother; therefore, she should stop her behavior and just relate to him as a sister and a friend.

18:43 I was so shocked to hear her say this. I totally disagree, hitting a child is never ok. It teaches them to fear adults instead of respecting them. If a child has done something wrong they need to understand what they did and why they shouldn't do it. Hitting them doesn't help them understand the reasoning behind the disciplinary action.

I reacted strongly at what she said because where I live it's against the law to use violence against children, and the consequences are huge. Not only is the action punishable by law here, it's also socially unacceptable and very frowned upon. But different cultures use different methods when it comes to parenting, and no method is perfect. But still, I do think that physical discipline should be avoided. If you want to understand my reasoning behind this I'd recommend you to read this study by Terry Dobbs & Judith Duncan (2004). It's called: "Children's perspectives on physical discipline: A New Zealand example". But if you don't feel like reading the whole thing, I think this quote summarizes their findings quite well: "[...] use of physical discipline is not only wrong, but is ineffective, physically and emotionally harmful and gives children confusing messages about the use of violence. Furthermore, there was little debate from the children that hitting limited alternative's to resolve conflict and was harmful to their relationships with their parents".

hittaledigtnamntack nah I get it, but that's how most of us were brought up and I guess I could say it does have effects. But to put it plainly, it's common so kids kinda get over it fast and don't dwell on it too much. It has reduced a lot there, schools condemn capital punishment today. But I guess it's a culture and you gotta accept it. Like I mean Indian kids do grow up normal (most of them do, atleast). We're a very conservative society. What is fine in your country may be an absolute taboo in ours, so yeah culture shocks are bound to occur. And here we don't generally believe in a lot of medical disorders like a few western countries tend to. Like I'm sure they exist but we are kind of unaware so we have our own way of dealing it.

Yes, I'm from Sweden so I'd say our cultures are pretty different. Different doesn't mean bad though! There are a lot of things that Sweden could learn from India and vice versa. I hope you don't feel like I'm attacking your culture, because that wasn't my intention. I just think that people could benefit a lot from learning more about the consequences of violence. (And I think it's especially important when it has got to do with children since it's our responsibility as adults to make sure that they are healthy and safe).

Honestly I think there is a problem between all three of them, and not having a proper understanding of each other. While the younger brother is definitely in the wrong for acting out, he is never corrected for his actions so he continues to do them. His Sister is very caring and is trying her best to support their family and take care of them, but at the same time she needs to understand that her brother might just need some space to start understanding things on his own. I’m not saying he is in the right or that puberty is an excuse, but from my experience of having a younger brother who was incredibly angsty during puberty you just need to give them space with things that involve their own private life. You can’t force someone to let you into their life no mater how much you want to know what’s going on, because the more you try to force yourself in the farther you push them away. Their father is also at fault for not properly correcting his son when he does wrong, even if his son is “sensitive” that doesn’t change the fact that his actions should have proper consequences. He also needs to be more empathetic towards his daughter because she is going through a very tough time and having to deal with it all on her own, she needs someone who will be there for her and that she can rely on. He is also suffering from his wife leaving but he needs to understand that his children need him too, he needs to not act so childish towards them and actually act like their father. That might be a bit harsh but from what I saw he just pushes the blame on others and makes excuses, being a single parent is in no way easy but you can’t just hide behind petty excuses and act like a victim. You’re their father, they need you to be there for BOTH of them. I didn’t realize how long this got lol but yeah... that’s my opinion.. They can definitely work it out if they actually take the time to sit down and talk/listen to each other, it takes time but it’s not a lost cause. I really hope they all work it out together and grow stronger as a family^^

Being an older sister myself and experienced that first hand I can say that nothing hurts more than seeing your sibling hurt emotionally or physically. When my little brother told me that some older kids had been bothering him for quite some time getting to the point of even being physical I wanted nothing more than to go to them and scream in their faces or even talk to their parents. I almost cried and my heart ached so bad...even though I know kids need to fight their own fights I can completely understand the girl. She just wanted to protect her own brother. It's like me because, I always tell my brother to eat because, he is skinny. I call him a walking stick a lot, and sometimes he cries about it. He is always on the computer, and when my mom and dad tells him that it's time to go, or he needs to eat, he ends up screaming at them. And, one time my brother got a credit card, and I said "Daddy, I am older, can you give me a credit card?" then he said "No because, your brother is a male. You are a female." Then we started fighting.

In this situation... I think talking is all they can do. I mean, really really really talking with each other about how they feel about the situation(mom gone) AND remember they are family. Some bad and hurtfull words might appear but with time it will heal and bond the family. And do keep in mind that the boy is going through puberty, dad still trying to figure out how to handle this and the daughter trying to be strong. All three of them are trying to handle the situation in their own way and it might create lots of misunderstanding. I think appearing here on the show helped them talk and hopefully they will continue at home. With time they will bond and grow stronger.

I have an unpopular opinion it seems but as someone who is the youngest I totally relate to the brother but of course he also needs to change the way he responds. I feel like the boy needs his space especially at this time. Please don't be a mother be the older sister. No one can really replace a mother. What he needs is a natural relationship where the sister can nicely say she will be there but not over do it because he will feel more comfortable to talk to her if she doesn't respond harshly like he does. Take a look at the video. The brother opened up by himself when there was a comfortable environment. I really don't know how to explain it but I really understand the brother and I just think the sister could work on how she approaches him. And of course the father really needs to assume his role and I understand it's hard because of a financial situation but a small compliment and open minded conversation goes a long way. Lastly, the sister I believe has a valid claim because the boy is disrespectful but she is trying too hard to fullfill a role she can't completely do and not only does it upset her brother but it stresses her out too. This family really isn't all that bad and I can tell they all love eachother but communication is lacking amongst them.

I agree. They all are surprisingly articulate in explaining how they feel and why they act a certain way. From the father explaining all his actions, to the sis understanding the dads point of view, his stresses, and the family's financial situation, to the brother seeing her sister taking on the mothers role as an act and annoying and offensive to him. They should open up to each other more often, they r totally capable of understanding each other once they know it themselves when their feelings are communicated to each other.

first of all, for all of the comments saying that his puberty is his excuse, are they not aware that women have to go on emotional rollercoasters for half of their lives and are naturally sensitive beings. like let’s not excuse his behavior just because of “puberty”. and second of all, she shouldn’t have to apologize for wanting her brother to not grow up with some sort of a mother figure in his life and turn into a monster. like i get that she called him a pig, but he also cussed her out and disrespected her on multiple occasions. and on top of that she has to put up with the verbal abuse she gets from her dad. yeah the misogyny is popping off in the comments and i’m not here for it.

Feels like he might think the sister is trying to replace the mother, it seems like he still hasn't gotten over her leaving and subconsciously believes she will come back, so to him the sister saying she is taking care of him like a mother is overstepping her bounds and she herself doesnt know how to be a mother so she will also make mistakes when dealing with him and the bottom of this issue is the father and the mother didnt properly communicate with their kids and helped with the transition of the divorce. She needs to keep being a sister instead of trying to put the title of mother on herself, that's a title she will have to earn if she really wants it, and i dont think she realises how heavy of a burden the title mother can be to someone thats not ready for it.

She honestly does more then both of them combined. She cares for the house and the finance if that wasn't a perfect child idk what is.

Let me tell you some okay kid?? When i was still going to puberty my fam nag at me too. All the freaking time. Sometimes i will protest too but at the same time I regret it soo much. So the truth is *puberty is not an excused* and now I'm gettin' aged I've realized that they nag at me for my own best. So hope you don't hate your sister anymore cuz she did her best in my opinion 😃

As an eldest sister I really can understand her. My younger brother is also like her brother. Didn't respect me and being rude towards me. My parents are also scared to asked him why did he cursed to me and all. My brother also think that I cooked for him are my duty as a sister. I truly understand her. Be strong and you will get through it. I believe you!!

“It’s understandable to beat a kid for punishment” is what she said, don’t know if that’s her words or part of the script, but with corean people, it’s still happening and may continue to be like this in their culture for a while, my parents are old school and got the shit kicked out of them, they swore to never lift a finger on my sister and I, I can see how people can get kinda fucked in the head from that

Honestly they’re both not at fault. It’s the dad. He’s a bad father. And I think everyone knows why.

They are taking her for granted in such a young age. This is so unfair and stupid, she is doing by herself what she dosent need to do without people tell her, why? Because she see the situation and understand that is no good, and is going bad. Seeing how he dont want to hear her nag, just tells that he is not acostumed to have someone puting the boundarys on his life, telling him he dosent call the shouts. 7-7
