    Have had my 2010 XKR for over 10 years and will pass 200,000 miles on her in the next week or so. In 55 years of driving and dozens of cars, it is by far the best automobile I've ever owned as well the most reliable. It will never leave my garage as long as I can still drive. It's been tracked dozens of times, never babied, pulleyed and tuned to about 600hp, and still is a pleasure to look at and drive every day. Spectacular car!

    Had mine 2 weeks. Same colour as yours. Lovely to drive. Had 3 Mercs before it. CLK220,SLK280 CLS320. Have to say the Jag is the best to drive. The power from the 4.2 supercharged lump is intoxicating. The sound it makes is also right up there. Yes, she is thirsty and the road tax is high, but the joy I get from driving it is compensation enough.

    Bought my XK about a year ago after debating XKR vs XK and decided to go for the safer option. Just figured the supercharger needs a bit more maintenance.. What I can say is that owning an XK is an absolute joy and I've fallen hard for her! Going to keep this one for life, as I never want to live without one in my garage. Great video brother and looking foward to following your journey.

    @KausarClassics I hear you. She is softer but also comes with a dual personality. Cruising around built-up areas, she's as refined as any Jaguar saloon I've owned and driven. But, as soon as you floor the throttle, she switches and becomes angry and aggressive and I love that juxtaposition. Having said that, I'm considering some Spires lowering springs and for two reasons: she sits too high but also deserves to be a hooligan at times.

    @@craigodonnell6316 I would personally not lower an XK… it will just end up looking like an XK trying to be an XKR.. If I ever see an XK in emerald metallic green… I think I’d be very very tempted to buy it (if in my budget).

    @KausarClassics She's only going to be 20mm lower so not exactly a land crab, but I understand your comment. Also as I get older, I find myself appreciating the purist element of our fellow motor enthusiasts, but as a reformed modifier I just can't help myself sometimes! And it's the purists who may not like my next comment but I'm seriously considering having my silver XK repainted in emerald green. Surely that's the most flattering colour for an XK.!?

    Bought a 2008 XKR with 95000 kms on the clock. I live in Johannesburg. The car was in immaculate condition with 80% main dealer service records. First thing I did was a full service plus new tyres. Tyre tread was good but my tyre guy said they were 8 years old ! Anyway took the car to Cape Town for Xmas holidays then back to Jburg. 3500 kms ,never missed a beat ( except the roof lining started to sag but a great company in Cape Town fixed that ) love the car,fabulous shape and that engine is superb.

    Congratulations on the purchase - I had a very similar unit - same year - same miles - 2 major issues I had that happen to me and will happen at some point to each and every one of these units: 1 - there is a pipe that runs underneath the supercharger and behind the belts at the front - there is a plastic reduction adaptor between the two pipes - with age, hot water and the plastic combination this will snap without warning leaving you on the side of the road with a lot of coolant outside the car..not good :) 2 - the air conditioning system has a drainage pipe in the shape of a duckbill - possibly one of the worst designs ever and again age and time the pipe collapses onto itself and the only place for the condensation water to then go is back into the passenger footwell - again it happens without warning - it is an absolute pain to locate the offending outlet and to ultimately fix I can't recommend enough that both of these should be addressed (discuss them with your Jaguar expert) before they become a problem - because they will, otherwise suspension and engine are rock solid - if your electric start playing up - just bite the bullet and buy a new battery. I loved mine and regret selling it but I had another agenda for the cash the sale returned :) enjoy my friend - they really are a super car.

    I've had a 2011 5L n/a XK for 7 years. Here is the list of problems I have had : Oil Level Sensor replaced, one of the ride height sensors replaced, clogged fuel injector (replaced all 8 and plugs since the engine was opened up). There have been a few broken plastic fasteners (the luggage cover on the coupe can be annoying and the clips break easily). The 20 inch wheels are hard on tires with the road conditions where I live... a few flats and patches. The bushings and engine mounts are not surprising since the rubber is getting old and the liquid filled bushings will leak. I also replaced a rear LED tail lamp that failed... I think your car has regular bulbs... so not an issue there. The only issue I have now is a sagging headliner, which is pretty common. Oil changes at home are very easy to do, and can save you some cash compared to the dealer. I will be changing the ZF trans fluid and pan this year. Outside of the fuel injector job, the costs have been very reasonable. I think the headlight issue is the uv coating cracking... should be easy to fix and cover with uv film. Enjoy the car!

    They are really excellent cars if properly maintained , I live just outside Barcelona and have a 2007 model which is a very low mileage example. Beacause of the different weather conditions here, it has not suffered any of the problems you have and really is still like new. I try to look after it properly which helps, it lives under my house in the warm and dark and is always covered. You could do much better by sourcing your parts from one fo the after market specialists, they will often buy the same part as Jaguar but sell it at a far better price, SNG Barratt is one example but there are otheres such as David Manners or Martin Robey. They are all pretty good. Also you don't need to go to a main dealer to maintain it, there is a network of experts with the knowledge and experience to look after the older models at much more reasoanble prices. It is not quite as easy here!

    Nice car! I've owned a black 2006 N/A X150 for 10 years and its a great drive. Its now 16 years old, so is getting into 'rolling resto' territory. I recently panicked and replaced the rear subframe myself last month [and, yes, it took ages!] as surface corrosion of this mild steel bit is a common problem, especially here in the UK. If the subframe is dropped you 'll probably find other things in the vicinity that need attending to too, so expect your hair to go grey overnight if the garage rings you. If you're still keen to replace it.....a new subframe part is over £2500 or $3000 NOT including fitting and NOT including the support brace/k frame which is also mild steel and corrodes for fun as well (add £1800/ $2160). Grit blasting/chemical treatment of your subframe may be a way to go if you want to save cash if it's not too bad, or you may be able to pick up a used one. Good luck. Oh, and the rear parking sensors can be had off Ebay and are actually Ford parts bin specials. The main stealership wanted £500 to change one of mine a few years back (it took me 30 minutes and cost £8).

    I am envious of your capabilities Sir! I wish I could do all that work myself and stop getting robbed but I think I found a decent specialist so I’ll leave it all to them. They fitted a sensor (supplied oem part & paint) for £200, which I thought was reasonable considering… but those subframe costs are eye watering… however if it comes down to it, I will spend the cash. I’ll just keep the car longer to derive more benefit from it before I move it on. At present though… all is well with its suspension. No play and drives well (Chiltern inspected suspension AGAIN yesterday… found no play anywhere)

    I have an Xk and in the last year did over 10k happy miles… only thing I would suggest is that owners check the coolant bleed value , small black plastic screw across from the filler , mine failed (too many top ups or someone over tightening) jag only sell full expansion tank at 140 pounds but the screw is the same as a disco 3/4 and £12.5, so luckily I caught mine before hitting the warning light and as it just started to leak… so a simple fix which can save the engine….I did fix the aircon drain (duck) being blocked via long bent metal bar above gearbox to avoid swimming pool in passenger side, lots of discussion online, extra I found on mine is similar duck valve under boot at back of the car, so you can see what u r trying to unblock….

    Paul Dobson. Had my 09 XKR Coupe from new. The only issues I have had are, touch screen failure (got a used replacement from USA) fitted it myself. Head lining drooping, seems like a common problem, wheel alignment, until I had it fixed by a company who had, old school, non digital equipment. I am 79 & still love driving the car, not as fast as I used to. I live in Cape Town RSA so the roads here allow for some spirited driving. My one complaint about the car is road noise. Better since the proper wheel alignment but still above what I would expect. I replaced the 22 kilo rear exhaust with a ‘Quicksilver’ system. Seems ridiculous to fit such a heavy system to a lightweight all aluminum car. The 3 memory passenger seat adjustment seems an unnecessary expense, rather have better instrumentation, temp gauge etc. I have only covered 35000 klms and the car is immaculate, Silver with caramel interior, American maple inlays. How long will it be before the depreciation turns a corner and these beautiful cars, like the E type become collectible. Probably not in my lifetime. 😢

  • @KausarClassics

    Your car seems like a real keeper car and considering the low mileage should fetch a lot in the market. I don’t expect depreciation to turn a corner as it did with the e-type primarily because of EVs changing the market and the upcoming exorbitant taxation and ultimate banning of combustion engines. I think this means Combustion Engine cars now have a limited shelf life… and I accept that this money will likely never be recovered. I am just happy to enjoy it while it lasts.

    I'm shocked to see how cheap Jags are over there, but here in the States a good XKR is going to set you back 25k. You can get a N/A for 15-17 but the XKR that the car enthusiasts notice?...yeah 25k and up.

    When is it time to do a timing chain service? I heard that could be expensive

  • @KausarClassics

    @KausarClassics

    Жыл бұрын

    The timing chain may stretch a bit after a few hundred thousand miles but it won't break...this is a non issue on any Jaguar because Jaguar does not use timing belts which need period replacement (early 4 litre V8 cars, which has the 4.2 litre engine - did have chain tensioners that could break - but that caveat does not apply to the XK). The 4.2 litre engine presents no concerns of this sort. But you might want to change the thermostat and its housing!

  • @richardstarkess7595

    @richardstarkess7595

    Definitely watch the thermostat, my 2006 naturally aspirated suddenly ran hot, a piece of the housing broke off inside and restricted the flo from the water pump. Changed it and the pump plus serpentine belt myself. Not so easy on R ! Also there a small coolant pipe runs under the inlet manifold to the throttle body that perishes, it's a pig to change,1st sign of trouble is a dribble of coolant out the back of the V onto the bell housing then onto exhaust so you will likely get a coolant smell as a warning.

    @@KausarClassics I noticed the cooling fan was running mutch hotter than usual and to be honest it was noticeably hotter than usual. I have a generic OBD reader cost about £30 it reads basic engine data including temperature so if I suspect a problem I plug it in to check. Never had an overheating warning ⚠️ on the dash. For info I also have an icarsoft OBD reader dedicated to JLR, not too expensive and has been a godsend. I used to think British cars were way to quirky and not well made. But now I think the German cars are just as bad if not worse. I own a 2001 e320 with about 156k miles.
