Just a decade ago when I was studying the water system in my weird alternative hippie school they talked about what he's currently accomplishing like it was a far future utopian dream. The list of contaminants earlier made me cringe, any one of those things is a water treatment death sentence that would mark that entire water source as indefinitely unusable for several hundred years at least.

Watching these types of videos has really helped me stay away from the “America is the greatest country on the planet” rabbit hole. It’s actually appalling how much of America lives in such a state of disrepair, and how little the government does to help fix any of it. I don’t get how politicians can claim things have been so perfect when these issues have been festering since the 70s and earlier. Shocking but really enlightening

Picher has been a nightmare since 2008 and has been a popular spot for urban explorers which has tons of disrespectful people who vandalize and ruin what little is left. He didn't want to be interviewed, he wants to live in his town in peace and be left alone but he still answered a few questions for his friend. Tyler is not the only one to have stopped by his house and tried to interview him within the past 15 years.

As an Oklahoman pitcher had always been interesting. Right after the tornado i wanted to go and check out the high school because it used to have all its stuff still inside. The gym had gym equipment. The science room had chemicals. It was extra creepy because it was freshly abandoned. But a few years back i had some friends get their car stuck on one of the chatt piles. They were trying to go off-roading there for whatever reason, morons. but the story of pitcher is interesting for sure. However Oklahoma has multiple towns like this. Pitcher is just the most famous. But there are dozens of abandoned towns and a couple that are just as toxic. As for John, he was being a sarcastic ass for no reason. But im sure he thought you were trying to make fun of him or something stupid.

When I saw the thumbnail I already knew the town. I went to college in the next town over and the contamination is everywhere. It’s sickening how people could ever do this, it’s a mess that won’t ever go away and continues to destroy Grand Lake.

I'm really sad that i got no coverage on this a month before you ever released this. Specifically, there is a memorial to two poor girls that were unalived in a vicious way and probably ended up in a sulfur mine. Damn, I got no coverage. But I am glad something was covered on it. This really disheartened me in wanting to even do online stuff now lol. I don't understand how ppl grow on here, but I want to make a difference. Thank you for covering this Mr. Oliveira.

Exactly. And I mean it the nicest way possible. My grandpa and mother are both in denial. They think it is a government hoax and that the Indians purposely planted the lead there to get their land back. You can search on the department of education Pichers report cards in 1997, 47% dropped out before grade 12, 54% of 1st-3rd graders needed reading remediation & 18% were in special education. They collectively scored below the state benchmark of 70% in math, science, and history.

Picher pride is a real slogan, they are not able to comprehend the chemistry with the elements. They think it’s like radiation & affects your body physically, as in looks. My grandmother & aunt was not able to reproduce with no explanation. I spent many many days until I was 8 years old at my grandparents right smack in the middle, I have ADHD. My mother is just spacey like me. Many of my family members have low IQ. Not their fault, they are good people. They just don’t understand the psychological effects/delays because they aren’t dying of cancer.

I grew up about 10 minutes from this place, and drive by it frequently. There's one main road through the remaining town, and some business is still conducted there. It's been sanctioned off as government property. Trespassing here is a federal crime, and not exactly a smart idea to do so. There are open mineshafts here, and no telling how many bodies down in them. My brother in law grew up in Picher, and was in a small gas station when the 2008 tornado leveled the town. He's still alive, born with cerebral palsy caused by the contamination
