The only people left standing at the end of this will be the true comic collectors. That buy 1 copy of a book because they want to read it and collect it. Not buying 50 copies of each variant of every issue released each week and sending them to CGC to get slabbed. Right now, they turned it into "Every comic book should be valued over $100.00 right out of the gate because they are slabbed. They think EVERY book needs to be slabbed.

As a collector since the late 80s. I'm a collector but I also had a limit on my wallet and just slowly built my collection through comicbook stores, garage sales, church bazaars, random meetings, etc... Being a collector at a comfortable price can be a slow process but every acquisition is almost sacred and has its own story which "adds" value for each of my comic books.

It certainly is more polarizing and convenient to categorize a collector/investor and judge them based on that category.

The comic book market right now is like any economy. There is inflation, inflation on prices, inflation on demand. The more interest there is on books, prices will increase. When prices increase people's attention is direct to it. They think ok, here is something I can invest in. Now , like you said. We now have people in the game who have no business being in the game, driving up prices because they have the capital to do so. The great thing about these guys are the are not patient. The will dump their book the moment it's no making money and that will free up inventory. We just need to be careful not to buy to quickly and create new price thresholds

The market isnt crashing, it's going through a re-adjustment as people's expectations come back to reality. The problem with ever-escalating prices is fewer and fewer people are willing to shell out the money. For example The first appearance of Tiger-Shark was a book i wanted (Sub-Mariner #5 i think) , but the movie hype made it's price go up past what I wanted to pay. Now it's back down to the price it was before the hype train started, only now I no longer care about buying it. It would have to be way cheaper now for me to even consider it.

I'm stressed about the price of Spawn books. I can't in good conscience, spend on average $30 a book. I have most of the major keys, so run fillers should be $6 to $12 not $30! It would cost me $6K just on run fillers. My current consecutive run is from 240 to current. I still need about 162 books to complete the run. Impossibly expensive considering the books from 201 to 239 are $60 or more each.

Here's the secret, you will find the comic book you really want, for a lower price than you ever expected. Simply take your time, you don't need it right this minute, keep it on your list and you will find it like I have, 1-2 years later, at a comic book show, comic book shop, online seller, even at a flea market. Speculators will come and go, all thinking they all know how to get rich off comic books, and eventually find they can't sustain the speculation and buying, and end up selling everything they have for cheap. Be a collector, not a speculator.

The market and hobby always has ebbs and flows, collect long enough with a passion for what you love to do and the prices WILL come down. Books from the Silver age and Golden age however are always growing further in rarity with every passing year. Higher grade books within these eras however have and always will fluctuate much less due to their scarcity. The plus side is we're in a very volatile time right now and if our economy tanks and gets ugly, you'll see many people who got into something only as a possible investment to likely be the first ones dumping for a fraction of what they put in if things get difficult.

i had a small account with diamond back in the early 90s for a few years. had a few steady customers at a local flea market but got out of it, when it started looking more like a 2nd job than a hobby or whatever,. plus, there was a REAL market dump in the early 90s when people realized there weren't enough readers to support a production run of a million copies of x-men #1, (or you pick the title. many were over produced). fast forward 30 years, some of these books are worth some money. since there were never read, copies of spidey 361 in a 9.6, 9.8 are worth some money, so i started doing shows back in 2018 or 2019 or so. and the silver age i had, was worth grading, as well. i have bought a few books along the way, but only silver age. (my grandson is going to have a pretty cool collection). if prices go down, it would suck, but it has happened before and, as economist would put it, they would become sunk costs.

If you're looking to invest, you'd be better off buying Dogecoin than putting your money in comics. The rise in value is a happy side effect of collecting cool shit. Every day I walk into my office and see my top 15 books hanging on the wall, and every day they make me smile because I'm so happy to have them. If I ever look at one of my wall books and don't feel pride in owning that book, its gotta go. If I flip through my slab box and don't say "hell yeah" to a book when I see it, then it should probably go. P&L doesn't matter with collecting, its the joy in owning a high grade TMNT #1, or an early Spider-man, or whatever floats your boat. Yeah, I have books that would be a loss if I sold, but I just look at that as an opportunity to upgrade my copy without breaking the bank. Let those prices drop....

What does Sticky G have to say on the high end investors on comics in the $100,000 to $3,000,000 range? Plenty of these "Investors" are anonymous people who dump their money into comics of this calibre but at the end of the day it's just another gamble but with higher stakes.

You can be a hybrid I feel. For example my situation is I have a PC which I have no intention to every part with and yet I purchase books that I do wish to sell in order to afford books I want in my PC. I buy books to sell books to get books I really want

You bought those books at the highest point and were tickled like a school girl getting a letter from her crush…..you bought very high but you made money on your cgc 3.0 gxm 1 then when prices corrected less than 2 years after you purchase books sell them and complain? If you look at prices on true key books yes the price during the boom is down but they are still up by at least 20% or more since pre boom so🤷‍♂️ if you paid high prices at the boom hold the books unless you are desperate I assure you the majority of real key grail books will rise maybe not as fast as 2021 spikes but a gradual increase. If you buy at the highest of highs low grade books and sell as the price corrects in 2 years ….you can’t cry about it. I’ve collected comics since 1991 as an 11 year old I saw the crash of 96 yet nothing went to zero and marvel was bankrupt…the hobby will always flourish its not going away and if you spent big during 2021 be patient and don’t sweat it because the data is readily available that true big key books have always increased in value and 2021 was a once in a lifetime pandemic and caused a bunch of guys that paid for example4000 for a book 4 months earlier was like 1500. I’m not knocking this guy but look back at his videos he jumped on a bandwagon and paid outrageous prices and then sold super fast….people that have been in the hobby for a substantial amount of time knew 2021 wasn’t going to last and once again that comes from knowledge of data etc. It’s a hobby I like high grade grails cgc 8.0 and above and yeah at peak covid prices they went nuts but I enjoy my collection and they still are going up so just enjoy the hobby and do and collect what you like 🤷‍♂️ I spend my money on what I want and I’m going to continue to do so.

Aren't you scared when the boomers die that their collections will flood the market and the future generations not wanting them, therefore they become worthless? I am 25, turning 26. I can name 3 people around my age group that collect comics and nowhere near how much I do. I do spend my money within the hobby to keep the hobby funded without spending my 9-5 job money or my investment (IRA, S&P 500, Gold etc). I think spending money within reason for any hobby is good and helps your mental state.

@@Blacksheepcomics absolutely not super heroes will always exist and followed generation to generation. Comic cons are booming and we all yearn for childhood things, memories and sometimes even losing a parent you go for nostalgia. I think if you look at the history of comic books the hobby it’s withstood the seduction of the innocence debacle and backlash, the early 90s super crash in which marvel went bankrupt, the COVID pandemic showed that when the economy is good and people have extra income comic books and sports cards will thrive… People find out about my collection and ask questions it triggers their inner child and how cool it is to buy something that triggers a memory of a special time in life and voilà they are hooked. With video games ,movies, animation etc comic books will always have an audience…..unlike other hobbies superheroes never age ,never retire and live on forever in some form of media. I love the expression on peoples faces when they see the first appearance of an A list superhero 🤷‍♂️
