As violinist myself, I appreciate the joke... It was the favorite joke of the famous virtuoso flautist of the 19th century Jean-Louis Tulou. He would go for a walk with a friend, also a flautist, in remote countries or regions where he was not known, and introduced himself as a beginner pupil to the flute teacher he found there. Of course, the pupil, very mediocre at the beginning, progressed very quickly, and at the end of the hour of class he largely exceeded the poor dumbfounded teacher!

If not, please stop pretending you know about Italy and italians, italians-americans are something different entirely, like this guy impersonation (which was spot on!). Fin troppi pretendono di sapere qualcosa del nostro paese senza averci mai messo piede e sapendo in realtà solo di italo-americani, che sono tutt'altra cosa.

I found Jinny in particular to be a really good teacher. Many are saying she was done with him but what I saw was that she was very patient, encouraging, and remained positive the whole time. Sometimes students are just plain bad, what they need from teachers is for them to hide how much they think that 😂 and to be kind and optimistic about the students ability to get better going forward - no matter how painful it may be 🤣🤣 That is what I saw Jinny doing (and she was very perceptive too, I felt like she was almost onto him!). when kids learn on the tiny little violins it takes even longer for the sound to be nice, unless they are prodigies. I´d say at least 4 years if not more. Adults learn some things faster, one of my friends played with a fairly nice tone after 2 years, but still you can´t learn any advanced techniques in such a short time. It also depends on how much you practice and how seriously you take it.

My music teacher was awesome, but he was very impatient. We later discovered that it was a long story, since being Jewish, he fled from Germany at the start of WW2. When we declared war in 1939. he was given 3 weeks to leave the UK, or as a German citizen face imprisonment. However, like most Jewish people, he preferred our prisons to the gas chambers and stayed. Fortunately, like hundreds of people in his situation, he was allowed to remain in the UK as a free man, provided that he took a position as a teacher. Back in Germany, he was the leader of a major symphony orchestra. His wife was in a similar situation. This is one of the parts of WW2 that have remained a little known secret for more than 50 years. It is only now (I am over 70) that we know the full truth about the complexities of those terrible days.

Violin can either be the most beautiful sounding instrument or the absolute worst. There seems to be no inbetween xD

Just like Russian woman. Can be most beautiful katana or most dull rusty chipped two-sided battle axe. No in between - that's for western women.
