Hello Sarah, just wanted to say I appreciate your dorkiness, OCD, informative tech knowledge, your random nonsense bs, and sarcastic sense of humor. Keep up the awesome work airman you are a hot mess 😅👍🇺🇸
I'm really happy to see you crack the exhaust manifold bolts loose before you use an impact on them. So many people I see just go right to the impact and end up with a dozen broken bolts. Nice, careful work.

The A-10 has always been my favorite bird in the arsenal!!! Spent 10 years in the AF!!! AIR POWER!!!
That truck is so awesome, flashbacks for sure. I miss my Mom 😪
Soda dissolves in water so it shouldn't hurt the engine. So impressed with how hard you work at this channel.
Four years at UofA. Every time A-10s went over I would look up and watch them pass. Never gets old.

What I'm happy about? The fact all 281 A-10s are getting DATA-LINK to talk to all other modern planes, like the F-22 and F-35C, means that the A-10 will be in service for at least the next 30 years, if not longer.
@maxracer95

It's like the most beloved plane I can think of. At least with people I personally talk to, they have all sorts of opinions on every other plane but I've never heard anyone say they don't /love/ the A-10. So cool to hear it'll be flying for years to come! When Sarah called them out in the video, I was like 'ehh? ...OMG!'
Sarah, I've learned (the hard way) that a propane torch to a bolt for about 30 seconds with penetrant fluid keeps me from snapping off a lot of bolts. Also wending on a bolt for a few seconds helps tons as well. I've had bolts that have broken off and when I welded a nut to them, the heat was enough to break them free.
Transmission, maybe soda blast prime and paint. I just did an LS engine, lots of aluminum, I soda blasted most of the parts, then used an aluminum primer and dupli-color heat resistant paint. Looks great. You have to buy specific aluminum primer (zinc chromate). I would guess duli-color makes a nice silver paint. probably a lot of masking but it should be doable.
I know I've said it before, and I'm probably going to say it again: I LOVE this build entirely too much!! Excellent vid!
Coordinating your tshirt with your engine shows extreme dedication to your craft....2 thumbs up 👍👍
I'm really enjoying watching you work on Grandma's old truck. There's nothing like the satisfaction of renewal.
How cool to see a couple of A -10s just cruise on past like nothing’s going on in your yard.

Lil' Ranger is comin' along nicely! I'm really impressed by how thorough and organized you are with all your projects. Your vids posted are informative and fun to watch.
Sarah you are the prettiest mechanic on you tube, excellent work on this motor... Love your show ❤
Love the energy and in u end dos that keep on giving. Noticing a Few F bombs escaping the bleeps. Love those. Shows emphasis on the subject. Cheers from AK
Regarding gearbox and transfercase, get someone to take the gearbox apart and send the casing to be vapor blasted. That brings the aluminium to like new.
Your music selections are fire ! I seriously think you are the best on KZread, the levels and everything are really perfect. 👍

Does anyone believe that Sarah won't actually end up just rebuilding that engine? Come onnnnnn, we know you're gonna do it Sarah, just rip off the band-aid and do it. Haha
Sarah, love the knowledge and Know How you espouse. I don't do any of this, nor will I ever , but find it fascinating to watch as you breakdown the parts of a car/truck in its entirety. Your Thoroughness is amazing. You should become a University professor in automotive / technican training. Your hot looks prevents me form getting anxiety watching your OCD in action. No wonder you are in such terific shape, You do all those Squats everyday !!
Love the teardown and rebuild of the Ranger! 😀😀
So I'm not into the Ranger. But I'm 100% in on this build. I liked it, but the more I watch of this build, the more I like.
I really appreciate how you take us through all the steps involved, including the dirty ones!
That was a barrel load of fun to watch, thanks Sarah!
Your Gram's going to be riding in ONE SOLID vehicle when you're finished! SUPER SWEET!!
You should be awarded a gold medal for master restoration skills.👍🏽People that refinish alloy wheels might be able to help with ideas on the transmission cleanup…just a thought. It’s a similar problem. Gonna be a nice truck when done👍🏽
There goes Sarah making Grams proud again!
I love this restoration. It’s so satisfying to see it come together and get clean.
Take a hard look at the plastic fan as they crack around the hub , and your climate will make it worse , I swap them out with the steel ones from f150s , also the 4.0 ohv is pretty durable but the lifters pushrods and rockers are prone to wear , as for the cases I'd tear them down have the cases glass beaded then clear powder coated
I did my own hot tanking at home. Fill all the coolant passages with CLR and cleaned everything out. I have the 4.0 sohc motor with balance shaft. Debur the block, cleaned up oil passages and casting flaws. So yes it can be done and on a budget. Although I don't have video I have pictures of all the assembly with the truck is up and running I do have a sound clip on my channel. Contrary to what many say the engine has potential. A racing team won pikes peak in 2007 with the same engine. Not so much the OHV they're not as rev friendly
FYI I always use heavy duty oven cleaner on my old engines after I degrease and pressure wash them. Removes the majority of the old paint. Spray it everywhere, let sit over night, pressure wash again. Works for me, but I’m not at your level of awesomeness.
These engines seem to share a common flaw. If the main bearings get just 5 to 10 thousand off from wear, They can start leaking oil like crazy. If it were me, just so I would know, while I had the engine out I would go ahead check main bearing clearances and make sure they are within spec. You don't want to find out after you put everything back together, that you've got to pull it out again. I went through this same problem with my truck. It had 52 thousand miles on it when the main bearings got just a tiny bit loose. It wasn't even enough wear to affect oil pressure. But it was enough that it kept eating through rear main seals. It went through 3 rear main seals before I finally had it fixed correctly.

You're certainly not alone when it comes to having to deal with leaks from the rear of the engine, including repeated repairs.
Love how this progress is moving along. I have to say that you are the first person I’ve watched on any you tube automotive video that understands how to apply penetrating oil on the rusted nuts and bolts FIRST before you try and remove them. Honestly, I’m not kidding. 👍🏻
Just what I wanted for my birthday: a new video with Sarah! Oh Joy!
Hi Sarah, I follow a channel in the UK called Bad Obsession Motorsport and they restored/extreme resto/mod a mini called project binki. They used the running gear from a Celica gt4 and installed it into a mini. At some stage in the series they cleaned up the engine gearbox and got great results by wet blasting the aluminum they explane in full the process they used I hope this helps.
Points for the proper use of “splooge”
Cool to see people still restoring these old engines. I rebuilt the one in my 97 ranger and painted it black with orange valve covers. Great engines that will last forever and they have decent torque
Mad skills, Sarah!
From experience, you might want to change all the freeze/core plugs in the block while it's out. They are notorious for rotting through and leaking coolant. One plug in the video appears to already be seeping.
Another great outfit . And new paint on the nails. Yay
Really cool! This'll be the best looking Ranger on the road by the time you're done with it. Inside and out! 👍️
the little truck is coming out really nice, you doing a great job
Great video ... can't wait to see the finished truck. Thanks for sharing this.
scuff, and wash the transmission then apply Alumiprep-33. Prime with epoxy primer, then silver and clear coat
The splooging of the block, the utilization of a box.Ah,Sarah.
What a great set of videos! Pro mechanic and I just put a rebuilt engine in my 2000 Mazda B4000 (ford Ranger). Make sure you put new gaskets on the entire intake and valve covers including fuel injector o rings or even new injectors. Super common problem on these engines. Screws up fuel trims like crazy and now is the time! Had to redo mine after engine was in.

Yeah, Friday night with Sarah! Loved the progress on the engine. Amazed that you got that percentage of exhaust bolts out without breakage. I just got back from a trip to ABQ/SF. So envious of even your "cold" weather! You rock!

Since you love getting everything really clean, I would suggest that you build your own vapour blaster. There are lots of videos on KZread showing how to do it at reasonable cost. Please keep up making your superb videos.
Love that you are back on the truck can hardly wait to see it running again
Sarah, my first Ranger was a 97 xlt regular cab 4x2 flareside had the 2.3 dual plug 4 cylinder. My current Ranger is a 21 XLT Tremor. Bought the 97 as a young PFC in the Marines, not sure why but I love em. Nice to see you restoring grams Ranger, such a unique build.

Hi Sarah, I just wanted to say I enjoy your sense of humour, and how passionate you are with car restorations and car reviews on both your YT channels. 👍

It's my engine! I've kept my 4L going for 16 years. Pretty awesome engine.
I still want this truck! I retired from Hershey. We had a dry ice blaster we used for critical change over cleaning...getting rid of peanut or almond residue. Any manufacturers that would work with you? Also...find out who supplies dry ice pellets in your area. They might be able to feed you some names to try. Glad the camera survived. Thanks again. Oh...btw...I want this truck!
This truck is currently my favourite project. I’m really enjoying watching you restore it. It’s going to look fantastic when it’s finished.
An epic undertaking 👍 much respect ✊
Thanks Sarah for not letting that perfect box go to waste ❤ this lady 😘😘
I love how James May is always watching over you
The look I know you're going for on the aluminum pieces can be had with a vapor blaster, not so much with dry ice. Perhaps you could just send the casings off to get vapor blasted since there is no one local. I see there are a few places in Phoenix that can do vapor blasting.
Totally my favorite car channel on KZread. Keep being you Sarah!

Music choice in time-lapse is awesome. I'm sort of considering restoring my ranger and these videos are super informative and make the idea way more fun.also your sense of humor is on point - its great. I think I'm going to watch this whole series.
You are spot on saving the front bumper strip, any new one won't fit as well. Thumbs up on getting the parts truck bolts, keep the metric bolts in your stock for way less money. I've had metric bolts saved for years then they saved the day on a project.
Outstanding video Sarah. I’m learning!
I like the foil tape idea:) thanks!

Harbor Freight sells air hammer shop tool, cheap, along with the chisel bits. Great tool to have in the shop, if you have shop air / a compressor. Their nibbling air tool is pretty cool, too!
I really don't comment all that often. But I got to say, love your content. You make me smile! And I love the projects that you do. Your perfectionism also makes me smile. I just wanted you to know that.
My comment will get lost in the hundreds of others but you really inspire me, thank you for that.
I forgot to say, sarah, induction heating coils can be used to loosen the really stuck bolts or nuts. I haven’t ever used them, but have seen them and they work very well. Super heats what you want removed and then apply your torque. It work like buttuh (butter)
Love the A-10 fly over... I started out on the A7 & A10 in the USAF in '82...
Waste not want not. Most enjoyable episode as all are. You prove OCD is your superpower.
I’m stunned no one is able to assist with the transmission resto?! That’s insane. Here’s hoping someone in the comments section can help you. 🤞🏻 Great progress on the truck! I know it has its pros and cons being so close to the base. A sight to see some A10’s! 👏🏻 Looking forward to the car reviews! 😉😎
You guys are smooth with your craft
A tip for Sarah. So you don't always tear off the screws. Are there inductive loops to heat the screws. this makes room for the screw in the thread and it is easier to loosen rusted screws. Heat-up time approx. 1min. If you don't already know that.😉👍🇩🇪
Growing up I had and worked on a '98 2.5L Contour SVT (miss that car) and brothers had F-150s, Taures(es), and only one '04 Ranger now. Seeing all the parts brings back so many memories 😅. Death to Ford Power Steering pumps!! 😆. My contour had a drive belt and an "accessory belt" for water pump/ac. Unbeknownst to me the accessory belt snapped and car overheated and blew the head gaskets. in the GM car review the other day, the tight engine bay also brought me back to the Contour ... TIGHT space indeed.
I can not believe you removed the whole Brumper all by your semlf! Nice work. D
This will be the best restored Ranger on the planet👍👍 Fun fact. That’s the same alternator used on my 2006 F250 6.0 diesel
