    Good technique and quite easy for filling up the joints between the tiles after cleaning up the old joists which have become dirty and weak as well.white cement slurry is deliberately chosen to make the video clip more clear to understand the workmanship which is absolutely perfect. Cutter is used to clear the old joints of cement quickly. Slight chipping of corners is covered with cement slurry after drying and rather joints are more tough as the corners are free of glaze and have become rough.

    You have to be very careful not to damage the tiles with the angle grinder. The step with the ball you can leave out. No professional does that because you go over the joints with the rubber plate and after a little drying you come back with a sponge - as shown. But you have to work diagonal over the joints NOT along the joints. This way you'll get the beautiful shape of the joints automatically. Imagine all the professionals sit there and play with a ball while making hundreds of square metres of tile laying - five head 😂

Don't want to be negative, but I spent most of my working life in the flooring business and all of my crews used the grinder/vacuum combo, and the ball bearing thing was cute but the same concept as the gadgets they sell for smoothing out caulk. I'm not sure what you thought was the new technique? Regardless, well made video and it may help out some diyer or homeowner, assuming they are experienced with using a grinder freestyle like that. You can make a mess of the tile if not. But again nicely done.

    @@dannythorpe1425 When excess water creates greater spaces between aggregate materials, the voids fill with air after the moisture evaporates. The resulting inadequate compaction reduces the concrete's strength. Concrete with trapped air levels as little as 10 percent experiences reductions in strength of up to 40 percent.

  • @dannythorpe1425

    @Russ S that's not from too much water, that's from adding aggregate. Concrete will fully set underwater. Also adding aggregate and preparing the job properly won't have that effect. If the aggregate has no where to move the water won't displace it. Aggregate is not concrete, water doesn't weaken concrete.

    The grout mix is too loose .It needs to be tighter because just like concrete mix ,when the mix is too loose ,,then the finished grout will be weak.That means it will more than likely crack and then pop out of the joints especially if there is any deflection in your floor. You have to stiffen the floor with 3/4 plywood sub floor and stiffen grout mixture by not adding too much water. You should never be able to "pour" your grout. Much too loose.

    Right after the grout is se and dry between the tiles, why aren't the tiles and grout both sealed against discoloration using some kind of polyurethane like we do for wooden floors? I don't wanna spend significant time cleaning when not necessary. I'd rather leave the grout a dark color and make future stains a part of them permanently (as not to draw attention to them.)

  • @altvamp
    @altvamp3 ай бұрын

    Risky using a cutting or grinding wheel, the slightest touch on the edge of the tiles could chip the tile edges and whilst pouring the grout in might look good initially I would expect the excess water to cause cracking and shrinkage as well as weak/soft grouting, finally I don't get the point of the bearing if you're going to run over it again after whilst still wet.

    It takes a skilled hand to take a chance like that with a grinder. I’ve done this before with a lot of success, but one slip and the floor is done for make sure there’s a spare tile if you decide to use this method. On a different note, what kind of grout float is that?

    I don't get why you have to furrow the grout anyway. That just gives a place for the dirt and grime to go and build up. Why not have the grout level with the top of the tile. So much easier to keep clean. Someone please explain the need to furrow the grout.

    I am a builder and I can say there is absolutely no reason to do so, in fact it creates a void for water to sit in only to slowly disperse to the substrate in wet areas, it’s also a great to create lipping if the tiles are slightly out of level as laid.

    you must be a builder from spain ,thailand, or usa, who dont know, that the furrow have to be in level with the tile edge, and the tile edge are bent, slightly down. THIS is the right way to do it. if you lay the furrow over the edge, which is glazed, it will loosen over time.
