Vintage DBs like these are like classic collectibe cars, beautiful to look at, tinker with, appreciate the history, and talk to fellow colectors about...but daily driver, modern comforts in the snow and hot summer.

Interesting video, and interesting channel. I'm an old guy, but never even heard of round heads until recently (during Covid I started collecting stuff for a home gym and I never even paid attention to what kind of dumbbells were at public gyms). I've got a few light round heads I picked up cheap. I'll use them for "decoration" in my garage gym, but, true, vintage history isn't what you want when you're only pushing up weight. What's practical is all that matters. If you're pretty affluent, you can afford having them around like collecting vintage cars. But, if you're like most folks, it boils down to what's economically reasonable. Again, interesting channel.

I totally agree. For me it’s more of a space thing. Only so Much room in the 2 car garage

Do you feel your bench press improves by using the fat bells for accessory work over the York dumbbells, or any other type of dumbbell, for that matter? Thanks

  • @strongmandan

Depends on where you are weak in your bench. If it’s lat stability it won’t do much if it’s off the chest or shoulder stability it can help. If it’s weak triceps they will help depending on exercise selection

Somebody had to post this. I do like my Roundheads and use them for bodybuilding movements (biceps, triceps, chest presses), but have a scattering of urethane dumbbells for CrossFit movements. I really want to get my hands on some fatbells just to see if I like them.

Been using mine for several years, but just now trying to fill out the heavy end (80+). I’ve never noticed handle being uncomfortable compared to my heavy “pro” style, and in fact I prefer York handle. But to each his own! Don’t know where you are, but I hope I see yours listed somewhere so we can haggle.

Yeah it’s definitely personal preference. The York legacy handles are thicker but not a vintage. I’m in Lafayette indiana. Hoping to sell them as big buy

If I didn’t already have a set of urethane iron grips 30-100’s I’d buy the fat bells or mass center bells. They seem to be a much better solution for my style

They are pretty cool. The extra range of motion on some movements make them a lot harder

That’s actually a pretty good solution since the narrow handles are only annoying when pressing. Doesn’t help the bending issue though unfortunately.

I think it depends on the item. My favorite plates of all time are my billard deep dish. Also killed Yorks are about as accurate as calibrated steel plates and are cheaper. But when it comes to dumbbells I’m totally with you

I think it's the oppisite. Vintage weights cost more because they are just that. Vintage. " No longer made". Vintage has history. Walmart dumbells are a dime a dozen.
