I had to work SO HARD for this GIANT FISH!!! (Kayak camping for monster flatheads)

Спорт

For a fish that is supposed to be an eating machine, these fish are tough to catch sometimes. Part of why I like them and why I freaking hate them sometimes. Anyway, hope you enjoy the journey and get a real snapshot of what fishing for the goliaths is actually like, and why it is so special when you actually land one.

Yes, the longnose that are prominent in my area make runs like carp and like to jump out of the water. The nice thing is that since they’re so hard to hook, the majority of the time they fight all the way to the bank and then just let go. Works out perfectly!

I 'un'fortunately relate to this one a lot haha the multiple skunks in a row is always a drag. It seems like Arizona is somewhat similar to your fishing in terms even the best guys get skunked fairly often. It's not like back east where if you have bait in the river, you'll catch channels, flats, and blues day and night. I probably went a good 15 nights in a row of no flats in 2017. You just have to expect it even if the fishing has been good. I also don't like fishing in tents and relate well to the butterfly emerging haha! I'm digging the longer 'experience' style videos!

I am a big bow fisherman and have found a new respect for gar. I used to hate them with a passion and would shoot em every chance I got. However last year here in Missouri we had a major silver carp hatch and the gar were eating them like a buffet. So they get a free pass from me when I go fishing, there’s nothing I hate more than silvers dive bombing in my boat.

I use the big circle hooks 8/0 I have never had a problem with the circle hook. Do you think if that is a better way to do it. Also use a steel leader for 45lbs. Any advice about that? Since I know you're in AZ... haha it's the same as he said. Both. I prefer slight slack so the bobber is more vertical and keeps the fish up but if you're using a decent size carp or feisty gill, it'll be more tight no matter what you do (unless you use more than 1lb of lead). You tend to get more tangles if the bobber isn't vertical. Push the bobber stop up higher (longer than the hook leader) if the water is deep enough. That keeps the bait from wrapping around the bobber.

River Certified I still use a headlamp but I use a Coast with adjustable spot and flood light. I turn it up to max brightness and flood mode and it gets a nice wide light so you can see stuff on video. Much better than the typical headset. Some still come with red and stuff they are pretty nice! I wouldn’t use anything else for night video. You can also get little mag lights that adjust to flood and spot. I use them on my kayak for night video

A very wise man once told me very important words of wisdom "Youre never gonna catch it if you dont keep chasing it" those words put the fire under me to go from a pretty crappy Willow Beach fisherman, to a pretty good / less sucky Willow beach fisherman. The whole story is much better told in total darkness while being devoured by bugs and trying to avoid the skunks (the real 4 legged ones) and wrestling the occasional double digit monster into your kayak
