You could repeat this in Summer when it's warmer

Before Costco, Penn championship extra duty was the standard. I've used them and they are pretty good. They don't bounce as high as ProPenn but is that a good or bad thing. Depends on the player. Extra duty holds their pressure for a long time at least the more recent versions do. I think its a mental thing but like everything in life, once you form an opinion, you don't change.

Like your mindset! I get the Penn Championships all the time as we get them at the Costco equivalent in Panama. Issue is they are inconsistent between the batches or cans. Some are great, some are rocks, some they feel empty or dead. I've played a little with Pro Penn and are way softer, less heavy, which can be good or bad.

Man, I feel you guys are too finicky. I grew up with low budget to play tennis and we would use a ball until it was clearly very depressurized (measured by pressing thumb into ball). Now I use Penn Champs (and usually 1 can every 2 hitting sessions/matches), and it's absolutely fine for recreational use. Yes, sometimes it's inconsistent out of the can and you get a bad from the start but wouldn't say that's super common either.

This is adult film level acting, and I am all here for it. 😅

Comparing the Dunlops next would be interesting. Tennis warehouse reviews prefer the cheaper championship ball over the regular ATP ones.

I have the same issue with Dunlop Fort All Court balls, which are prevalent here where I'm playing. They fly all over the place when freshly opened, as if they have a gyroscope in them, yet completely die after a couple of sets, and u can't hit a winner with them. Plus they're the hardest and heaviest feeling ball and I always feel my elbow after playing with them. If anyone can corroborate, I'd appreciate it. Would be nice to know that I'm not crazy! Also, what Coach Jerod said about the Penn Champ ball could apply to Dunlop Fort, that it's a two shot ball, which would make me feel a bit better about my tennis, as I can assume that when ppl pick those to play with, they're just lazy! So, I'd adjust strategy accordingly, and focus on keeping the ball in play, at least in the early stages of the match.

dont know why they do all these play tests when it is freezing. Everything changes; strings, rackets, balls they all play stiffer and deader. I am a ball snob personally I prefer the Pro Pens, then US opens, then Dunlops. The Dunlops are like rocks. The other main difference they didn't mention is the quality of the felt and how the Pro Pens and Opens are woven and made of wool while the Pen Championships are synthetic and not woven completely different feel.

I always bring US Open. One other guy I play with always brings along something comparable. Most other people bring Penn Championship or similar. It's a night and day difference as the cheaper balls are so much softer.

Many USTA tournaments use Penn extra duty balls.

I have tried all types of balls from the major brands. Propenn is popular, but it doesn't feel as good as other balls like US Open or Dunlop ATP/Australia Open. Personally, Triniti is good for cold weather and Dunlop is good for normal use

I like the Dunlop ATP ball and the Tretorn ball

Penn is the worst ball I've used. I prefer Dunlop, Wilson or Yonex.

It's not that bad. I play with them a lot, and it's never just 2 ball rally.

I think those normal pens are cool. The propenn has a little longer lifespan.

I like those balls, but I haven’t been playing tennis as long as you. And I don’t like the US Open balls.

The Penn balls are a mixed bag sometimes play well sometimes poorly. The ProPenns are solid balls and play with better consistency. But seriously guys, the ProPenns are marked “ProPenn” so saying you couldn’t tell which was which is disingenuous at best.

No real tennis player think Penn is a good ball. They’re like little rockets that destroy the game and the arm.

I don't see a lot of difference in balls. For me balls are balls.
