However, because @essentialtennis is a trusted educational resource for me, I’m actually going to demo their racquets now that I’ve discovered them. I’m not worried about the balls at the moment. Yep, I dont quite trust the results also, there were for sure better ways than "dont look at the brand" to conduct a blind test. Never tried Diadem balls though, live in Canada and never saw that brand locally.

Wilson US Open extra duty balls are my favorite. The Costco Penn balls are the worst.

I picked up a couple of sleeves and they are on par with US Open extra duty. the 6 others I played doubles with/against agreed - this was indeed a fair comparison. I had to buy them at the local racquet shop, as a Canadian they would have been more expensive with exchange and shipping from Diadem direct.

The Penn Tour ball is good, but I think a bit less of a ball relative to the Dunlop ATP, which was included in your test. They are comparable, but the Dunlop lasts longer and has a slightly heavier feel.

I am curious, how long do they last on the clay and other surfaces.

Hey, fun and informative video. My son just played a L6 18and under USTA tournament and they used Diadem balls and he liked the balls very much. We regularly play with Dunlop AO, Wilson Triniti pro, Babolat Gold ( softer ) and my personal preference Slazenger ( very fast ) and my boy liked this Diadem a lot.

My son and I had played with all those balls and here in the video they are right on point. I never used the Diadem but my son just played a tournament with them for first time and truly enjoyed playing with them.

What would you recommend for ball machine? Extra duty felt like Diadem or Wilson? I love Babolat regular duty for clay followed by Wilson US open then Tecnifibre (all clay regular duty).

I highly recommend the new Diadem pressurless balls. It's what I've had in my teaching basket and ball machine for several months and they bounce just the same as when I started with them. They don't play exactly like a regular ball, but for training and practice reps they're more than good enough and it saves tons of money in the long run.

what are the best balls for coaching, so keep them bouncy for longest time ? I see some pros using Trinity or Trinity Pro which comes even whiteout pressure cans. They bounce OK, but sound weird. I think same brand/model balls also differ from batch to batch. The only thing is true that Penn lasts 90min after opening.

Fun video! Question, any feedback on playing somewhere 4-5000 ft above sea level and outside on a hard court. Extra duty or high altitude balls?

I'd definitely recommend high altitude balls up that high. Regular balls fly too far!

What about indoor courts? Does that change the choice in ball?

What would their lineup for playing on clay or har-tru.

Almost everyone I know uses pro penn extra or regular duty; the regular penn just don’t hold up after a set. I tried Diadem extra duty and they are very good! They stayed firm with good felt even after several sets!

What about high altitude balls?

This is an infomercial for diadem... but still decently informative.

Extra duties fluff MORE because they have more felt, but they last longer especially with big hitters on hard courts. They have a higher coefficient of drag due to this fluff and thus respond to spin more.

Another great video. Agree with the appreciation for extra duty. I love US Opens for a set but they seem to die. Whereas the Dunlop ATP start out a little softer, but maintain that level longer. I can see why for a hit they liked the US Open better than the Dunlop ATP. The Dunlop ATP also seems to be heavier yet plushier to hit. Whereas, US Opens have a crisp feel from the start. it drives me crazy that most people grab the Penn Championship Balls. They are just inferior. Penn makes two lines of balls 10 times better than those--Pro Marathon and Penn Tour. Penn Tour a little plushier whereas the Marathons are a little livelier. But both are great for matches and great for training--can get a few good hitting sessions out of them.

I'll say that I am guilty of buying Penn Championship XD for practice when I could get a can for less than $2.50. Now that I getting back in form I am considering on going with Pro Marathons or maybe Dunlop ATP or AO.

Good followup videos would be duration and storage. Duration: How well do they holdup through three sets. Storage: Do they still play well after sitting in a box for X months. (If you live up north and don't play as much in the winter, how will they play in March? My indoor winter contract provides fresh balls every week)

Regular duty, especially if the court is pretty soft and wet. Really hard/dusty har-tru can work fine with extra duty.

What about high altitude vs not? Is it true that the difference is size? In Colorado, non-high altitude seem to bounce better in temperatures under 50 degrees.

Yes, altitude definitely plays a faster based on how thin the air is and how far the ball will fly and spin.

Lots of options online. I have sent them to a company that processes them into other products, including I think, playground surfaces. Need to have at least 100 balls to send in.

So many options, there's donate to an animal shelter, or senior center (they use them to slide their walkers), or grade schools (they use them to slide their chairs).

Why are you ranking the Wilson extra duty without trying it them? Sorry if I missed it, I tried those and those are the best quality one and last longer than other brands (on my experience)

Why not compare Pro Penns - one of the more popular "high end" balls?

Scott needs to record Mark yelling "I'm the ball master!" onto one of those sound effect buttons and press it every time Mark hits an unforced error in an RT match.

Nice video! Would be interested to know how Technifiber X-One balls compare. They are rated as one of the top balls but less mainstream in the US. For pressureless balls, my personal favorite is Trenton micro X. A second video on pressureless balls comparison would be fun 😊

Made the switch to technifibre about a year ago and won’t go back, they are the best feeling ball on the market imo, bounces and moves thru the air really well but don’t feel too heavy on the strings

@@ocbosco_Not to steal the question but two things. One seems to be getting an occasional can (or more) that has dead balls in it. The other is the durability. They are not up there with the better balls. In hard play, they are done after a set or so. They are never worthy to be taken out for a second outing, after a hard first.

I just look for extra duty first then consider price next. Thanks for this video

Interesting video but I think you should do a part 2 also. I'm a tennis coach and 5.0 player from Europe and we have so much more choices of brands to play with Please do a test with Technifibre Xone, babolat clay and normal, wilson roland Garros and us open, Head Tour xt, Dunlop ATP and Australian open, slazenger Wimbledon, Robin Soldering, Tretorn... For beginners and tennis coaching all of these choices are good, some of them might last longer

I played a clay league in Panama with the Penn Championship heavy duty😢😢😢. I told them I wouldn't play again that league unless they use proper clay balls. You can definitely use regular duty in hard courts, they just won't last long, but they feel better than the Penn Championship HD. Everything does actually ...except the Prince, those things are rocks!!

Pro Penn Extra duty is my go to ball. Slightly more expensive but they last longer and play better in my experience. I’d never heard of Diadem until watching this video. I’ll have to check them out.

Pro penn are good but the Penn Tour dont last that long. I also did not see the test of Babolat balls which i really like and they don't go dead.

Just switched to Technifibre X-1 balls. Nice, long lasting, but a tad expensive

Loved hearing competitive players review balls. I must have missed something. Why were the wilson us open extra duty balls not in the video? I saw Mark's comments about them being on par with the diadem xd but slightly more expensive. Wilson is currently selling xd and regular for $99.99 direct, so actually cheaper right now. The upside is I was able to take advantage of the sale cuz of this video. Thanks guys, love the group input.

Only reason is they weren't readily available. We obviously couldn't get every ball at the same time, this is what was handy/popular in the area.

Once I'm done with my Australian Open balls, I'm gonna try the diadem extra duty. Problem is there isn't much of a price difference.

Why does his Diadem 1 ball have at least one visible rubber pimple on the seam? I've recently noticed this on low price Penn balls as well. Also, I've seen two occurrences of 1 dead Penn ball out of the three in brand new cans this year. What is happening to quality control over in Asia?

Even the higher-end Penns have these "pimples". All Penns have a thicker rubber seal than almost any other brand. I think it's one of the reasons I find them to be so inconsistent. Head may make good rackets, but they should get out of the ball biz for good...

In Europe, Diadem only sells All Court balls : there are no regular/extra duty balls available so I suppose the All Court are just regular...

US Open extra duty balls are the only way to go. Use them on clay even here in the Netherlands.

Wondering where the Slazenger balls went to? Did they stop making those balls as I really liked them? No one seems to carry them anymore.

Diadem Premier Extra Duty is a good ball. Made in the same factory that makes the Wilson US Open and Robin Soderling balls in Thailand.

Wilson Triniti Pro for me, mainly for durability. Don't need to worry about ball pressure. Play until the ball wears off.

Thanks for the reminder. There isn’t much difference in cost, and both cases have 72 balls. Triniti is the most revolutionary (no pun intended) ball I’ve found, but I think it is under-marketed.

Liked the Pro Penns on clay, others cheap tiers deteriorated so much you had one medium pressure ball and two good balls in same can. The seams started being an issue with cheap ones. Thailand Artengo and Dunlop are almost all that is available. Quality and consistency are pretty good, not great though.

Next question for the purchase decison would be the durabilty between the premier extra duties. 😊

Some of us don't live in developed countries so cant just "go online to order" lol.

Worst main stream ball are Penn Championship bought at Costco. If ordered directly from a distributor, Penn Championship are okay. Absolute best are Tecnifibre X-One. In addition to playing superbly, they last more than any other ball. Great for match play, for at least 6 sets on hard court, and then tossing into the teaching ball bin where they will give students a consistent bounce and not go flat for at least a month. Tecnifibre X-One may be expensive, but you get more from them than any other ball. Wilson U.S. Open Extra Duty (black label) is the next best, but they last one set, maybe, on a hard court. Outstanding video. This is so helpful for consumers.

What an eye-opener! Very interesting test. Hadnt considered Diadem but will look online for price comparisons (my club uses Dunlop APTs which stay bouncy longer than Slazenger extra duty). Most players I think stick to whatever their club uses in their socials? I too like Wikspn Triniti - last forever (including in a ball machine) though i tend towards Wilson Trainer balls for drills using the machine. Very useful video! Thanks!

Penn Titanium balls were excellent. Don't know where they disappeared. The titanium powder in the rubber helps keep the pressure longer. helps us recreational players to avoid spending money every week on a few cans of balls.

This is a commercial. Maybe the more expensive balls hold up a little longer, but worth the extra cost?

I heard that most tennis ball in the market are produced either in Thailand or China. Any chance thay Diadem would sell them in asia? Can also start the market on where they are produced also (and maybe a bit cheaper 😂).

This was cool, but they only hit briefly. The real testament for balls is over the course of a match. PS I prefer Wilson Extra Duty and Pro Penn. I have a strick no regular Penn policy 😁. Balls matter big time, great content. I will consider getting the Dunlop ATP and Diadem extra duty next time.

I've only played with Diadem once. I know of only one pro shop that carries them. They seemed to have fewer supply problems during COVID, and that's when I even heard of them. If money was no object, I'd get Wilson Triniti. Super high quality. But for my money, Penn Extra is the best bang for my buck.

Well I use extra duty regular Penn when I play because after one match they are all worn out, make me feel good about myself. :D Plus - TBH we always open a fresh can of balls when we play matches, it's so much cheaper to just use regular duty (edit - not regular duty - extra duty but regular Penn, not Pro Penn). In my local club, they only use Pro Penn, which is noticeably more durable, but again, if we are playing a match, fresh cans, so meh.

Personally, I like Dunlop Grand Prix but the home team picks the balls. I think it's in your interest to play with a wide variety of them because you're going to play a lot of matches with crappy balls.

The main problem with most of the balls is the endurance. I don't want to play with the ATP official balls if they last seven games. It is not viable and it is not ecologic friendly. So far the best compromise I found are the ARTENGO CONFORT PRO.

For me it just helps with feeling the ball "pocketing". For those of us that genrate a lot of power typically play w a higher string tension for the control. Some of the lighter balls Dunlop (Grand Prix), Wilson (regular) do not even move my strings and my sense of feeling the ball can diminish after a set or two. I play w a 16 poly low elasticity at 63lbs. And no Ive never had elbow problems. Lol.

Box of penn at Costco is such a great deal. Dunlop balls are too hard, US open is the best but $$$

If you're a dog looking for something to chew on. 😂 They are the by far the least consistent ball I have used. The only thing consistent about them is how inconsistent they are. I can get 9+ sets out of a can of Dunlop AO, and they still play better that last set than any Penn does fresh out of the can. THAT'S value.

Wilson triniti pressureless are Great balls for ball machine! They last forever with uniform response. Not so great for game play.

I want to try the new ones. I got a great deal from Wilson several years ago on a case of the original ones (stamped "club" on them.Maybe seconds?). It's about time to get some more but the price has gone way up. I have a collection of old balls in a pneumatic ball restorer that I may use up first. @@rsmith02​

No question Diadem is the best ball, including the pressureless balls. Best bounce, feel, longest lasting and most consistent from can to can and case to case. One other thing that Diadem is best at is temperature extremes. Almost all balls get stiff in cold weather and lose their bounce below about 50 degrees F or so. Diadem does not lose bounce noticiably down to 40 - 30 degrees F.

It’s funny how Mark is so sure on duty type when he hits first few shots on fresh ball!! RD vs XD will almost make no difference on fresh ball as all the felt is still even and tight. The difference becomes apparent when the balls experience wear, RD balls have slightly lower felt density so they will actually fuzz up more and become slower and less predictable on hard courts vs XD which has high density felt that stays tight and even longer for consistent and faster bounce!!! On Clay low felt density reduces moisture and Clay absorption for more predictable playability, but the clay court surface doesn’t abuse the felt so it doesn’t fuzz up. Hence, on first few hits, RD and XD balls should be identical, tennis rules and quality control calls for all tennis balls to be same weight and shape when fresh!!! Now that’s when quality comes in, pro tournaments balls have much better quality control because they are made to be used in pro tournaments, so when fresh they will be precise and predictable. Ultimately, if using high quality ball, personal preference is the ultimate decider, Dunlop has a slightly different rubber core than Penn, and Wilson is unique as well. Babolat and Technifibre are similar to each other, Head and Prince are similar to Penn, I think US Open are similar to Diadem Premier. I still wanna try Yonex, RS, and some other smaller Euro brands. I did a review on my Facebook page and so far US Open XD won, but I did not include Diadem. Next I will try to put US Open against Diadem, Technifibre, Head Tour, Yonex, and many few others

It's also important how well they play and how inflated they are after a couple sets.

Diadem balls are made in the same factory in Thailand as Wilson, so I hear. They are good balls.

Are you saying that Championship balls _aren't_ good enough to use in a championship match?

Diadem are good for a set or two, after that....shot. Wilson USO the best. Pro Penn is a good bal, but they don't have good consistency at the factory. One can be great, the next has a , what we call, worm in one.

My preference ( I play 2-3 times per week)... 1. Diadem premier extra duty 2. ProPenn extra duty 3. nothing else comes close
