As an average student who was not very ambitious, Manish shares how he decided to not pursue entrepreneurship early on due to his risk-averseness. Instead, Manish tells us how engineering happened and how he got a few A.T.K.T.s.
Somehow plodding through engineering college, Manish was not really sure what career path he should take.
Realizing his own position as an average student, Manish decided to pursue an MBA. He knew that cracking the CAT was not an achievable goal, especially since his academic scores in college were not that great. Instead, he wrote the MH-CET, the Maharashtra State MBA entrance test.
He ended up getting into Sydenham Institute of Management Studies, more commonly known as SMISREE, in Mumbai.
In b-school, Manish shares how, as a tier II school, students had to take ownership of placements, visiting faculty, guest lectures, and more. Telling us about getting companies to attend placements, Manish shares how he first learned the art of sales right there in b-school.
From cold calling HR heads to organizing college placements, Manish participated in the whole process. He shares how knowing that his institute was not in the same league as the IIMs made him work harder.
Getting placed in Citi during placements, Manish changed 4 jobs in the first 3 years of his career.
He shares how it is better to work in one place more consistently. Having worked at various banks including Citibank, Bank of America, and HSBC, Manish now works at Visa. Filled with insights about building a safe, steady, and reliable career graph, this conversation is a must if you want to figure out careers in banking and finance.
