I've just been watching - I'm a mess

Few artists can really get the nuances of Jonis' inflections and high notes and hit them in the poetic way Joni did. This lady does it. Jonis' work helped many of our spirits come to life when we were "coming of age" Love seeing it being passed on to another generation with the artistic complexity that it deserves . Good art is timeless.

I just want to thank Brandi for her rendition of Joni's song "River" at the Kennedy Center.

Blue got me through some dark days long ago. I felt as if Joni Mitchel was the only one who really understood and I played this album over and over. It was my friend during this time. No one can write lyrics like Joni. Her story comes through with just a few words and a very big heart.

I would not have made it out of my 20s without Joni Mitchell; I was a decade away from spending two weeks in a locked psychiatric ward, but in my depressive episode leading up to that, Joni brought me solace and I felt a connection with what I considered to be her soul as I saw it through her music. I love her so much.

You got it Exactly. She got us through the pain, losses, and lost loves in the 60's and 70's. The summer that "Blue" came out I think we pretty much had it on constant loop.

Yep same here and to most of the other replies. Blue was the gateway drug for me, only because that’s what I first heard.. and because it’s one of the most amazing albums start to finish ever. I so relate to what you’re saying @lifecloud2 The album was a friend that seemed to understand things the way I did. And it still remains that way for me. This time tomorrow, was my theme music throughout my wife’s illness and her final days with us, Brandi totally captured my grief in her beautiful song and I listen to it frequently and it helps me through.

She’s deep. Love this and we need more of who she is and what she does. Yeah!

Brandi is the real deal! For context, I’m an older straight Republican male, and a very serious music hound, and I absolutely adore, admire, respect and appreciate Brandi Carlisle’s immense talent and incredible candor! As I said, she is the real deal!! So refreshing and authentic. And for the record, I also admire and appreciate Stephen Colbert. I can’t get enough of either! And we’re very fortunate to have both!

I completely concur on both counts! But I give a brief pause when someone feels the need to preface their love of any kind of art with age, sexuality and political affiliation if it differs from the artist's. I understand the desire to just be able to love art and have that be that and not be required to give context for why good music is good music. I come from a straight, white, Republican family, so justifying my taste in queer artists was hard sometimes unless I prefaced it with some kind of statement validating their conservative beliefs. But doesn't that kind of go against the point of enjoying the absolute fuck out of good music? If we take it back to Joni's greenhorn day and age, it would be considered flat out rude. So maybe take a leaf out of Joni and Brandi's book about not giving a shit what others think and just say what's on your heart as a human? I think both of them would be honored you forgot your affiliation and identity while immersed in their music. Art is meant to affect, and theirs is truly special enough to lose oneself inside and exist only as a collection of cells on a rock floating in space. I hope this reply came across with my intended respect, as I know a 2D medium is hard to read.

Accusations constantly thrown at us and now all the gender race theory slipping into the school systems!! It’s really simple, I keep my sexual preferences to myself meaning I don’t force feed what I do with it onto the world around me and everyone else do the same! It’s called mutual respect!! She’s won 6 Grammys and been nominated even more. Her song “The Story” was featured in Grey’s and put her on the map. Calling her a cover artist proves that you’ve never actually checked her out. She covered Joni’s at Carnegie music because Blue inspired her so deeply in her own song writing. She is responsible for Joni’s recent return to public performances. Same with Tanya Tucker. And she is one of several who convinced Wynonna Judd to complete the Judd’s Farewell Tour without her mom and supported her during the tour. She’s currently touring with P!nk because P!nk adores her and her music so much. Her and her wife and kiddos live in a cabin in the woods and are the most down to earth celebrities you could hope to meet. She’s a gem in the industry. Don’t come for her.

The song is wall - to- wall favorite lyric for so many. who can't necessarily remember the title. Except that embarrassing bit of cheeseball about being a lonely painter, i live in a box of paints. Move along from that, folks-- nothing to forgive, there. I could drink a case of you, darlin, and still be on my feet. But then there's all of For Free-- a well-earned love song and testament to the courage of buskers--- to contend with.

N. R. who happens to have the same sponsor as your friend. That's Seattle. I'm not a musician or alcoholic, drug addicted or any other thing. I just seem to hang out with them everyday. That's Seattle. It's changed some in the last 20 years. But the roots are there if you know where to look. Seattle has always embraced the selfless and the outcasts. Seattle has always embraced me even though I am more fucked up than just about anyone. It's hard seeing our heroes becoming the property of the world in its entirety. But it's nothing like the joy of seeing their success. We are all invested. We always come back here every chance we get if we must go. They always pay it forward. They never truly leave. Never forget where they've been. That's Seattle. True it's a bit icy and cliques among groups to many newcomers. That's true. But it's not a permanent thing. Understand it's Seattle and that's the way it is by osmosis here. Seattle is proud of its heros and they never let us down. That's a rare thing.

Brandi Carlile is a pretty awesome performer, in my mind. And she’s changed her look. She looks very cute. Very sexy. That look makes me weak in the knees, tbh. You GO, Brandi 💕⚡️!!!

Yeah, Brandi appreciates Joni Mitchell and covers her well, but there will never be another young, up and coming Genuine Real Joni again. I get in touch with that and maybe I grieve the loss that Joni more than that young Pat B. With that grief comes gratitude Joni songs are part of my life's soundtrack and I'll never be alone with this sentiment.
