yeah the key of the song is E major, but the song is based off B mixolydian, the fifth of E.

aviad! B mixolydian (E Major) is the key, but trying playing E minor pentatonic runs over the E Major, or B minor pentatonic runs over the B. Then switch! or try licks that shift from E Major pent to E minor pent, like the solo on "good times bad times." Sounds tasty! Queen of California is in the same key, gain some inspiration from that. For B mixolydian, that b7 (A) is such a sweet spot, really work to hit that note at the right time to bring out the modal quality of this chord progression/voicing. Or don't! Play all the wrong notes. Don't even play the guitar. Be avant garde. Play your input cable. Play the sine waves. Ride the sine waves. The limit is your imagination!
