I was in a dendrology class in college (science of tree identification) and found out the hard way that I'm allergic to those 🤣😂 Professor gave us all some to try and everyone else was fine, but my mouth was on fire, I developed really bad blisters and hives in/around my mouth, and my throat started closing. Luckily one of my classmates had an epi-pen because of her bee allergy! It was an interesting day -_- last time I ever tried one of the plants unless I darn well knew I wasn't allergic, like the wild figs lol

I feel like it would be SO interesting to dry the flowers, grind them up and use them as a seasoning similarly to pepper or chili powder. Or just give them a rough chop and toss them in to maybe a spicy food to add a bit more of a sensation to the spice.

I also recommend Ann Reardon, How to Cook That. Great food and tips and a few spin offs as well. One that's fun is where she busts rubbish food channels by attempting to recreate their supposed recipes. PS. Came on to comment on the cooking but as a bonus have learned some tips as well. 20 years of chronic pain means l battle depression as well.

Love stuff like this! My favorite restaurant is a Szechuan place that has a dish that uses Sichuan pepper corns. At first, its a little tingly and numbing, but after that it's like it amplifies the flavors of everything else. SO GOOD.

This sort of reminds me of timut peppercorns! They’re similar to Szechuan peppercorns but a little different. When you first bite into them they’re fruity, like fruit stripe gum, then as you chew your tongue numbs a little and it leaves a metallic taste in your mouth. It’s a ride

That plant have a similar effect to a plant very common in the north region of Brazil especially from the state of Pará, I don't know if they are the same, we call that plant "Jambú" here, and we eat the whole plant, leaf and flowers, after we cook in water and salt for a couple of minutes. Its commonly eaten in a traticional dish called "Tacacá", which is kind of a soup with a broth made with wild manioc, and dried shrimps on top, and tapioca gum on the bottom of the gourd were is served.

I’ve had them before. It would be super overkill to use these flowers as an ingredient in anything. You would only take a tiny nibble to enhance a cocktail, or just to experiment with how it makes a lemon taste like an orange. A mouthful of these would just put your head in panic mode. You could perhaps become accustomed to them if you use them a lot, but it’s like giving a jalapeño to someone who’s never tried them and doesn’t like spicy food anyway. Just way too overwhelming as a main ingredient.

I had mine with a Botanist gin old-fashioned, coconut lime mojito, and a gin gimlet (also made with Botanist). All were lovely, working on how to incorporate it into food as I have quite a few left and I know that they lose their buzz once you cook them. So far as I can tell the lemon drop variety is the best. The most exciting drink to have with it though was water.
