I Grew A Pumpkin Patch Just In Time For Halloween

I decided to grow the biggest pumpkin in Canada with seeds that can turn into 500 pound pumpkins. I even 3D printed molds and put them on my pumpkins to grow giant pumpkin shapes. Then, I took the orange and white pumpkins I grew into the kitchen to cook up some tasty treats. Well…it’s been two years since I started this journey, and it all started with one pumpkin.
So if you’re wanting to grow your own pumpkin patch in time for halloween - now is the time, and I’m going to teach you how while telling you this story in between.
🎃
Fun Facts You’ll Learn About In This Video:
1. Humans have been eating them since 7,000 B.C.
2. Pumpkins are native to North America.
3. The heaviest pumpkin recorded weighed 3,624 pounds
4. Pumpkins were originally referred to as Pepon (which means large melons) by French explorers. It wasn’t until the book Cinderella was published in the 1600s, that’s the reason for the name change to pumpkin.
5. Pumpkins take between 90 to 180 doys to mature and scientifically they are classified as a fruit.
6. There are more than 48 varieties of pumpkins grown commercially worldwide.
7. Every single part of a pumpkin is edible, including the skin, leaves, flowers, pulp, seeds, and stems.
8. Pumpkins are made up of 90% water and they contain more fibre than kale and more potasslum than bananas. So it’s ok to make that pumpkin pie.
9. In order for pumpkins to grow, pollinators like bees and butterflies come buzzing around in your garden. They poke their heads in the male flowers and bring pollen to the female flowers. That’s the only way pumpkins will sprout. You can hand pollinate your flowers using a little brush.
10. White pumpkins are a special variety of pumpkin. Even though they do not have the distinctive orange colour, the only true difference is the colour, meaning white pumpkins have different seeds.
11. Warty goblin pumpkins are also as knucklehead pumpkins, and they’re a unique variety of pumpkins bred bred for their bumpy skin. Now they’re trending for decorating for halloween!
12. If you are growing pumpkins, try to do so in a square garden box. If you do not have access to one, choose a vertical pot.
13. You can 3D print yourself shapes that you can then wrap around your fruit to grow fruit shapes! We tried it with pumpkins and a pikachu shape.

The little pumpkins that fell off before growing was from not properly being pollinated. It happend with squah and zucchini. Also try cutting off extra flowers and fruit so the plant can focus on just a couple of fruits instead of trying to put all its energy into too much ❤

I think Pumpkins still do fairly well in soil, i did a little experiment and they all grew but the ones in the paper towels were better. Also didnt realise pumpkins can be grown from cuttings so im gonna try that! Love ur vids :)

@@growithjessieI can't go to Canada cause I'm a kid I have to let my parents book a flight to Canada :-[ In my grandmother's house we have a lot of pumpkins so we can make a soup like thing with other vegetables (which are carrots eggplants potato's and coliflower) and a little water to eat with rice but I'd normally only eat the coliflower's and the potato's without the soup cause I don't like soft carrots and the coliflower and potato's are good.

When you cut off the tip of the seed make sure it's the right end of the seed. Cutting the sharp tip may result in death of the seed, since that's where it's root starts growing.

Jessie, do you know what your Last-Frost Date is, in your part of Canuckistan? If you dont, you should be able to look it up quick and easy, online. Look on the packets and you should find instructions for when to start seeds indoors (how many days before LFD) and you can do the easy-math.... or "cheat" by using the Calendar. Find the LFD for your area and count backwards that many days on the calendar. Mark that day and make a note: Plant pumpkins indoors today. Skip the window and plant in soil. (I like SOLO cups for this.) Once sprouted, up-pot to the large container you want to grow in. When you want to try that Dill's Atlantic Giant pumpkin again, I recommend you plant it in a small rubbermaid trash barrel, with drainage holes. You can put that on rollers for easy(ish) handling. That Giant pumpkin literally wants that entire barrel by itself. Seriously, just one. So, now with this information, when are you going to plant your next year's crop of pumpkins?

In my farm's soil Pumpkins grow the best, better than any solanaceous or cucurbits. This year I'm going all out on the Pumpkin patch. Wish me luck.
