I think he actually does listen to songs off screen quite a bit, but mainly ones that he really likes and adds to his personal playlist. Maybe its more a case of hearing the songs, but not associating it with the specific anime because he isn't listening to it while seeing the visuals. He hummed along to the tune of a lot of the openings, but couldn't place where he had heard it.

I think most of the time people will say this because they actually just want reactors to watch openings/endings with the episodes of shows in general. even if they have to edit around them for copyright, or because their reaction to it isn't new, it's nice to know that the song is present for the viewing experience. I have this preference as well, because 1. I think some of the better openings/endings have commentary baked into them that reflects back on the content of the show, and it's nice to let it do that. and 2. sometimes shows will make the artistic choice to play the OP or ED during the episode as a dramatic element, and that just does not hit the same way if you've been bypassing the song every time. my exceptions to this preference are if an OP contains significant visual spoilers, if the song is legitimately bad, or if the plot is so enticing that it's actually a pain to sit through the OP... and all of these things have some element of subjective opinion to them. one person's "this OP is so spoilery" is another person's "I didn't notice a thing" which makes it harder to nail down. that's where it's good to have a like-minded friend who can just tell you what to avoid. but I agree... some openings are so iconic that how frequently you've heard it in context doesn't matter, and a lot of the most difficult ones for you seem to be the shows you haven't seen, but that are always included on lists like these, because they're considered so prolific in the anime community. and it's also just rough to try and pick out any OP from a series that has way too many seasons to keep track of all the songs. so yeah... people are probably going to keep accusing your memory of failing because you don't watch the OP with each episode, but I think it's just because people want that in general. I think the actual reasons for getting stuff wrong are 1. total unfamiliarity with a show, 2. the show's title being legitimately difficult to call to mind, 3. if the show isn't often brought up after only having reacted to it once, 4. if the song isn't stylistically iconic enough, and 5. if the opening is just one from a show that has a ton of different openings.

Luke, the problem isn't that you don't know enough, it's that you don't listen enough. It's way harder for you since you always skip openings on every show you watch. That way it will be harder for you to link anime to the songs.

You actually got 13 right Attack on titan "Shingeki no kyojin" and Demon slayer "Kimetsu no yaiba" are written in Japanese. When it comes to Vinland Saga opening 2 "Dark crow" by Man with a mission it only plays during episodes 13-24 of season 1. I don't know how far you've gotten but you've only uploaded ep 15 so far and skipped the op for spoilers. Demon slayer currently has 55 episodes and the newest season just dropped and will air every Sunday so you're kinda picking the best time to start it. The opening is "Mugen" by My first story x Hyde it will probably be uploaded soon please react to it.

okay, to be entirely fair, this list was real tricky about some of its choices. they gave you Survive Said the Prophet, which had you guessing Vinland Saga, only for it to pick from Banana Fish instead, and then the actual Vinland Saga one was Man With a Mission... they're definitely messing with your expectations on purpose there. I am pretty happy with my own ability to recognize some of these... all the ones I didn't get were ones that I never would've gotten in the first place. and they did pick a bad segment from that Overlord opening. I got it, but only barely, and that one is so distinctive... also, I wanted to mention a thing: I just found out that Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury is available, both subbed and dubbed, for free here on youtube! I think it'd be really cool if you could take advantage of that, or other anime that are similarly readily available... Revolutionary Girl Utena is also free in its entirety on youtube, so (I would hope) copyright will be less of a nightmare around those shows. just a fun fact!

Death Parade is really great, you definitely need to watch it. Also, the band that made the opening, BRADIO is really amazing. You need to check out more songs by them. Shiawase no Shanana is my recommendation to check out first. Every song by them will just put a huge smile on your face and put you in a good mood.

I'm actually impressed you got that much! It is amazing to see you get better and better at those ^^ I was playing along and got 35 but well, I got into anime 13 years ago (and even after that time I don't get full score and I too don't remember all of the openings of the shows I watched, so don't beat yourself too much!) I think you should do some of the bigger anime openings compilations because the top 50 are bound to have a lot of overlaping most popular opening and they generally won't help you with getting to know those you never heard, some bigger top openings would be cool to see, even if you'd decide to split them into a few more reactions, like the top 200, top 300 openings of all time at least. I would love to see you react to one of those top 1000 openings one day but I doubt that will happen XD Althought it would be fun! You would probably see how little anime you still know and how much bigger this world still is, how much really amazing shows and music still is there to explore! But yeah, seeing some older stuff would be great. I still would also love to see you react to all gundam openings, all detective conan openings, and maybe if you'd like to see where power rangers comes from, the super sentai openings too ^^

Don't feel bad dude... i consider myself quite the connosieur in terms of anime covering almost every show for the last 20 years... and i usually listen to anime openings while working yet i still only made it to 22/45... 1sec is too little and i have been skipping most of the time the openings of newer shows... there were not that many on the newer side and i still failed to get half wrong...

Also, I think you should do more quiz and react to some that you find interesting afterwards (maybe you could propose us a list of the anime that you found interisting inside and make us choose one of them to keep the fact that it's us who choose what you watch)

Did a lot better than me. Haven't watched enough recent anime to really keep up. I did get Akame No Kill, Attack on Titan, One Punch Man, Death Parade, and Deathnote pretty much right away. Seen some of these shows, but difficult to remember a lot of them.

I've watched over 1000 anime and Luke still does better at these than I ever could. 😕 Even worse when I never skip OP and EDs.

For Vinland Saga, they did it dirty. They played the least remembered opening. River, Mukanjio and Paradox are way more iconic than the 2nd opening

It's not that you need to watch more OPs from older shows, it's more that you haven't seen that many shows. Most of the ones you get are from shows you've watched rather than ones you reacted to once and probably never bothered to listen to again unless you really liked the song. That's how it is with most people that take these quizzes. They mainly recognize the shows that they've watched.

26/45 you don't have to blame yourself. most of the ones I missed are from anime I didn't even watch - so I can't really know them. I only didn't got the SAO one because it is the "weakest" for me. But the ones I got right I knew in a second. I either watched and enjoyed them so I would remeber them or they are in my daily list. or they are so unique (like Kaguya) you can't forget them.

I missed 5 out of the 45 but I listen to a lot of japanese music on my spare time 😂

i got 25 right and 20 wrong. Did worse than I thought I would, but all but a few of the ones I got wrong were from anime or newer seasons that I haven't watched, so I'm relatively satisfied

Tbh I got the SAO opening cus the 1 second they took sounded just like a part from op1 of Kill la Kill

there's a big music creeator in japanese youtube called Melogappa who started doing a similar but inverse challenge recently. Guessing songs by the ending measure or ending sound. gotta get your editor to make song clips from the final some seconds. and maybe let a bit more than that if you get stumped.
