    In wrestling we are always taught to keep walking your feet towards the head. It keeps your back leg away from him hooking it, keeps pressure on his chest, and cradles his head minimizing his bridge. You ultimately want your near knee under his head and foot all the way on the other side of his body-essentially doing a split. This makes it a lot harder for him to roll you. The escapes are the same, just a lot harder the better position you have. Just like Jordan does here, you would need to chain escapes back and forth to loosen that elbow and take the back, get his trail leg, or bump and roll. The leg split really helps with the latter. But nothing is ever 100%. This position takes a lot of work to escape. It sucks when the top person is good at it

    The way you break down your thought process and strategic mindset is probably the easiest understanding I ever heard in a BJJ video. Usually the person teaching is too technical and explains things way too in depth to follow but you my man took a whole different approach. I def. enjoy the way you break things down.

    Tried the bridge and roll shown at 1:00, against a training partner who is most definitely younger and stronger than I am (and for context, I'm a 46-year-old white belt who is only about 1 and a half years into my training). I was stuck there in bottom kesa, and I figured I'd just give it a shot...and it WORKED; I was equal parts stunned and thrilled; definitely the highlight of my night. It was practically effortless, and from where we ended up I was able to transition to a back-take. Algorithm, do your thing and bless this man.

    Great breakdown I like how your teaching the technique and explaining why it works instead of just using strength, one observation it can be a lot harder to slid out the elbow when your in a gi, and also in Judo where kesa gatame is most common they only have to pin you for 20 seconds for ippon, any tips on escaping with a gi and doing so when time is a factor.

    Good work! I do wanna say a bit haha. I love kesa gatame. 90% of my submissions are from here. As the top guy. It's hard to use this position if you don't understand it, I came from a just background before jiujitsu and we use this position a lot, still, it needed modified for bjj. 1. The hand under the head should be gripping the thigh, as far up as you can reach. This closes the space that allows the elbow to escape as you did in the video. 2. Leg closet to the head should run parallel to the spine of the bottom guy. This helps stop the bridge and roll. 3. Hips ideally want to be in the armpit. The leg closest to the bottom persons legs should never be close enough to be grabbed. That bottom leg should always be foot flat on the mat. This is your pressure foot, it helps keeping the shoulders pinned. 4. Ik it feels strange but top man should keep mostly upright posture, keeping all the weight on the sternum. This pressure aid what kesa is know for and can feel like a compression choke at times. When you lean forward you lose all that. We want that pressure to open submissions. 5. Any escape the bottom man uses opens the top man up to apply a submission. I tell this to everyone kesa is a pin first and foremost. If you learn to ride the position correctly all the submission you could dream of will come.

  • @ItsTheJits_

    @ItsTheJits_

    6 ай бұрын

    Also 6. (lol) That hand that's not around the neck. That hand floats. It should hunt for submission and be an additional if bottom man has a really strong bridge. The elbow of the floating arm ideally stays glued to our ribs until we need to use it. If it's open someone with long arms can get a 1on1 or 2on1 with that arm and kesa is good as lost.

    When wrapping your arms in the body lock, my professor will secure a hold under your elbow much like a heel hook. Gable grip right under. He'll start cranking like a heel hook, but it starts tearing your shoulder out, instead of your knee of course. He also has a better Kesa Gatame by putting his leg under should shoulder for a better hold. Most people miss those little details and you can take advantage like you are doing. You said you wish you had some high level Judokas, etc...I also wish to see how they would respond to this move.

Where you try to do Kesa on top of your friends in the video, and they try to get out? I want to see if Kesa is a high success pin if the person on top knows how to do it properly/have a better knowledge of grappling. (Since you are a black belt in BJJ) I know it is difficult to find a high level black belt in Judo to do a video with you, so I wanted to see if at least, you would be interested in doing the reverse in this video for science.

It's "broken scarf hold" and see if it's effective at preventing people from catching you from behind? It might be "safer?" idk kzread.info/dash/bejne/q5ugpNekosSactY.html&ab_channel=StillRolling I remember learning it from this guy, and I use it pretty effectively against white and blue belts, but of course, me and my friends are not particularly high level grapplers. You're a black belt and I think it would be more interesting to see higher level grapplers try :D No pressure to do any of these, I am just curious to see if Kesa is a pin that is worth learning to use for higher level grapplers.

    White belt here. Could someone give me advice? I just started bjj and we worked on this. I’m realizing how much I’m struggling on bottom with my breathing. My lungs feel like they’re not getting oxygen. I’m a smoker and I’m getting ready to quit hoping that will help but I’m curious if anything else could help? Breathing techniques? Just overall practice? Increasing my endurance? I’m going to force myself to learn how to stay calm in uncomfortable positions and being on bottom here is not fun for me for sure. Thanks guys! Love the videos Jordan

    My favourite move as a Orange belt Judoka 😅..even higher belts can’t easily get out of this lol btw my thigh is always under their triceps when controling the arm,,then I’ll usually grap my thigh aswell,, then just rest my head newt to theirs and hold on for their life 😂😂

    The broken Kesa Gatame grapping the armpit is a lot more stable and harder to escape

    When a good judoka goes cheek to cheek and has your elbow gripped it is so hard to get out of that damn thing lol

    Bridge, grip and roll. Every day, all day. If that fails, I'm getting my elbow under and taking the back; it's a little bastards special move

    7:15 I am probably one of those guilty of saying it wouldn't work but again it only worked because as you said these guys are not judo experts and you could see around 7:12 your arm is tucked in and not under his arm pit making it easier for you to sweep him. The second one at 7:21 not sure what's happening there but you could see its very hard when the opponent kind of knows where to shift their body weight/foot position as seen in at 1:54 now if he understood the concept a little more he would of put pressure on your chest using his external oblique muscles and it would feel like your chest being crushed and with every effort trying to escape your oxygen depleted and most people would often tap at that point just by pressure of not being able to breath. keeping in mind there's also arm bar there too. Again kudo's to you trying to figure out possible ways of getting out of it. I would say one of the best option is ,keeping that arm tucked.
