I just took out most of my clothes that were hanging in my closet and I’ve never felt so good. My closet was so empty I was actually able to stand inside it and put my shoes on. I am going to bless someone with the clothes that I decided I don’t want anymore. 90% of them I just have been holding onto and never wearing them. Getting ready for church the other day was so simple because I have 5 outfits I saved out on one side so I just pick one and WAHLAAA!!!!! I counted and I have 50 items but that’s not including bras, panties, swimsuits and it’s never felt so good. I’m getting rid of furniture now. Been reading The Minimalist by Joshua Becker and it’s helped. I ask myself when I look at a piece of furniture “what do I think about or how does it make me feel when I look at that?” And a few pieces all I see is DUST something I have to clean. I have small children and I am loving this simple slow living. I’ll stop there because I can go on and on heehee. Have a blessed day!!!!!

We just finished having our children and I am trying to rebuild my wardrobe to suit my style. Your encouragement to not only embrace whatever style you are drawn too but to also realize we all go through different phases was helpful and refreshing! I also noticed that the "10 items" isn't exactly literally 10 items just less. Less is so very beautiful.

My capsule wardrobes are always full of color ❤ The piece I’ve owned the longest and worn the most is a Jersey dress that is a wild blend of green and huge flowers of red, yellow, and more. So many colors and yet they are all colors I like to wear so it actually matches everything I own!

I’ve lived with chronic illness for over five years and the majority of what i wear is dumpy sweatpants and sweatshirts, which make me feel so, well, homely. You help me realize that you can look cute, but still cozy, and this makes me mentally feel so much better. And it’s such a good reminder that we can have a few of our favorite pricier pieces, rather than loads of cheap stuff that doesn’t last and that we don’t really like. ❤

I had a sudden onset of something in 2021 after a pharmaceutical and I've also had a hard time coping with my wardrobe. I find restrictive clothing and stiff clothing uncomfortable but I recently made a resolution to do away with leggings as pants because it makes me feel not as good about myself. We'll figure it out 😩💞 Midwest girl here too 🥰

Hi Madi, being from Italy, I've always lived on what here is considered a small or capsule wardrobe 😄 Even as a kid, my mom made sure we had clean and tidy clothes to wear and we always looked presentable without having a closet full of items! That's something that I carried with me through my adult years🥰✨️

Yes!! I really felt a block while decluttering and scaling down my wardrobe for the longest because I felt like I couldn’t be minimalist unless I only owned white black beige or denim items and I finally have figured out I’m allowed to be expressive with color and prints. Such a silly revelation 🤣

I just discovered what I have been, my entire life, starting as a baby, and graduating through every stage of my life so far. Watching your videos absolutely made me positive about who I have always been, but, I really never knew there was a word or life choice for it…. Minimalism. It all makes sense to me now. When I was tiny, I used to get overwhelmed with stuff, things, toys, sounds. My “safe” and cozy place was always my bedroom. I only kept a few toys in it, a desk with art supplies, but neatly stacked, clothes that made me happy, and my favorite books. I spent so many hours in my room, starting around five years on, and, it was not because I was antisocial. I LOVED being around my family and friends, but, my sensitivities to my surroundings always got in the way. If I got a new toy, I would always give a toy away. This was not my parents idea, and, sometimes, they even felt sad I was giving away my things, but, it never made me sad at all. This was the same with clothing. I wore my things, of which I only had a few, until they fell apart. If I was gifted something, and it just was not me, I would ask my parents if I could give it to my cousins, or, donate it. As I got older, had my own house, started having babies, and babies, and more babies, haha, I became even more aware of just how much stuff was around. I sometimes would go on a cleaning kick, trying desperately to not feel overwhelmed by my surroundings. It was harder keeping things organized or minimal, when most of the things around me were not mine. Only when we sold EVERYTHING to move to an island, did I realize how happy I was. I finally felt free. Then, we moved back, and we started accumulating it all again. Really, until watching these videos, I never understood why I felt this way. I always kept my feelings quiet, as, what kind of nut complains about having too much, but, now I realize I am not a nut, just a minimalist. What a wonderful feeling that is! Thank you for your insight, as, it makes me know who I am now!

We live in a log-type house and when there are strong winds your house literally creaks without any drywall owr such to absorb it. I find myself fantasizing about how if it collapsed (no one there of course) how freeing it might be to not have so much stuff! If that's not a sign for change I don't know what is!

The idea that I can admire something without buying it really resonated with me. I have applied it for weeks now & it has been a huge shift! Now I am only buying what looks good on my body. I can appreciate fashion like art & I don’t have to own it to enjoy it. 👏👏👏

After quitting social media I started seeking out a few KZread channels that were in line with my values and encouraged/ inspired me. Yours has been my favorite I’ve found! Especially after watching your couch makeover video…I recently made a floor couch with a body pillow as the back for it and I had used the same linen cover from the same brand on etsy. I took that as a huge sign to keep watching your stuff😊. I watch a video or two in the evening as I find them super calming and motivating to me to keep living a more minimalist life that allows me to live my best life. Super excited to see you had just posted this one as I’m preparing to massively downsize my closet (the one area I’m not so minimalist in) Love the summer wardrobe!

Paused this video to go buy that Lullaby Club Capri dress, what a dream! I love your wardrobe and feel so connected to it. I live in a little beach town on the east coast of NC so my wardrobe is mostly flowy mini dresses and flip flops. You are so right about a small wardrobe belong to define your style. Mine was all over the place before minimalism, and 75% of it never left the hanger. Now including swimwear, shoes, sleep/loungewear, and outerwear, my wardrobe is about 45 items and it feels really good.

You’ve inspired me in so many ways. Keep up the great work you are doing. 🎉🌈💖 PS - I started doing the 30 day minimalist challenge (did it in four days instead of taking a whole month to declutter). I was so inspired I kept going and did another 30 day challenge, but it took a week to pull together a months worth of things. Well I thought why stop there, so a couple of days ago I started round 3, doing another 30 day challenge. At this point I’ve released over a thousand things in less than a month. So freeing! 🎉 What spurred me on to do this was my father passed away in February. His passing, less than two years after my mom’s passing, left me bereft with grief, wondering who am I now without my parents. I was also one of their caregivers the last 10 (mom) and 12 (dad) years of their lives. And where do I go from here? Being untethered is a strange feeling. All I know for sure right now is that I want to move forward with less things to care for, and that what I do have is worth my valuable time to care for. We all deserve the best in life, but having the best doesn’t mean we have to own everything. I love the open spaces in my rooms and on my walls. I own less than 10 pictures/prints on my walls because I prefer the empty space between. I can breathe in the empty spaces as I watch the light patterns shifting throughout the day. 😉❤️

So excited for another 10 item wardrobe video from you! I adore your videos and have been watching them through again a lot recently. I have been into minimalism for awhile now but haven’t been able to get my items fewer than 20 or 25 until now. I am 4 months pregnant for the first time and as my clothes are beginning to fit less and less, I remove them from the wardrobe and have others on standby for the summer. I am doing the 10 item for spring and by the time summer rolls around I’ll need to use the larger clothes and filter out the smaller ones. Thank you for helping me!

For summer items i would not have a problem to make a 10 item wardrobe. But those items that you show: i could wear them max 30 days a year in Belgium... This wardrobe is beautiful because withbevery item, you have a new look. But in Belgium where I live, i have to wear one or two sweaters almost every day on top of the outfit. And if you only own like 2 sweaters, you look the same every day. So i have like 7 sweaters... And i have long sleeve t-shirts to wear underneath. And then you also need pants. In the wardrobe that you show, you are Often completely dressed with only one item. That's completely undoable in winter in Belgium. Also: the rotating system of seasons is not very helpful here because sometimes we have 4 seasons in one day. It can start being 3 degrees Celcius and sunny, two hours later 23 degrees Celcius and one hour later back to 15 and icecold rain... So i would like to have some inspiration for colder climates as i find this very difficult. The people i see with capsule wardrobes in colder areas own like only 2 sweaters but that to me is depressing as I wear one every day from september till june!

I have the same problem living in the UK! I hate the cold months as I feel I can’t change up how I look too often without needing a ton of clothes which defeats the object of minimalism

I don't think 7 sweaters sounds excessive, given that your sweater is visually your shirt most days of the year. It seems like simplifying to a specific number is mostly useful for those of us trapped in a consumerist culture or mindset. I don't know how it is in Belgium, but here in the US the way many people stockpile and run through perfectly good clothes is...intense.

Love your take on minimalism and color! I think you would really love the book “Joyful” by Ingrid Fetell Lee. She talks a lot about the sheer delight color can infuse into our lives, and how lately we’ve lost so much of that colorful cheer in pursuit of neutral “sophistication”

Loved the video! ❤❤ Personally I love different colours and vibes so the fully interchangeable aspect of capsule wardrobe philosophy never worked for me. For each season I look at all the clothes I own, put together complete outfits I’m 100% happy with and make a list of them. Like 5 outfits for working from home, 5 for going in the town, 5 for church, 2 for gardening etc. The pieces for these outfits go in my wardrobe, all the rest goes into a big suitcase. 2-3 months later I do it again.. it feels fun rather than restrictive. Apart from the suitcase I also have a rail of coats. That’s Scotland for ya. 7 months a year of coat weather 😂

Love this video. I, too, recovered from over buying clothes. And purses. And shoes. And costume jewelry. And the thing is, most of the stuff I used to buy wasn’t really me. I bought it for retail therapy or to be presentable for other people, which is silly. I have about 12 items per season (hot and cold rotation), 2 pajamas per season, 3 pairs of shoes per season, basic jewelry that I wear every day, and one purse. Through the process of getting rid of clothes, which was a layered process, I learned my style. I love to frolic in a flowy, comfortable dress through my garden or to wear while doing housework. I fully believe in romanticizing life. I still desire new pieces, and I usually acquire one to two new pieces per season and let one go, but I’ve also taught myself to stop and just practice gratitude for what I already own. A minimized wardrobe is good for mental clarity, but if you let it be, it can also be a good heart change. Thanks for sharing your wardrobe. You always look glowy, comfortable, and beautiful! And the music for your husband’s favorite shirt was hilarious!

I work in a hospital, so all i wear is scrubs and when i come home, back in PJ's to feel comfortable. All i wear is dresses and cardigans, when i go out, so this was helpful to down size to 15 dresses. Hard to do 10 at the moment but will get there. I'm a floral & colorful dress lover and gingham fan like you're wearing. I love Anthropologie. I have ONE dress (which is black and sleek and long) from there that I wear to funerals and weddings. I have a top from them too. I used to always dream about being able to own clothes from there too, but they are so expensive, so it took forever before I finally bought from them. I am a former vintage fashion blogger (most I resold or people would send to me for photos). I don't own many clothes, but when I buy, I buy items that will last a long time and that are ethically made/sourced/fair trade/b-corp. I love being a woman. Linen is soooo good for sure. I like bamboo and hemp clothes too. You are not a potato, nor ever looked like one!!!!! I laughed at the "Careless Whisper" song you had play when you said your husband likes the one top. Underwear is my one way that I am probably not much of a minimalist (although I still fit all my clothes in a drawer, which includes my panties and bras). I get all of my bras/panties from Adore Me (a B-corp).
