You may enjoy wearing luxury goods out. But it's not a very good idea in London to wear it as something casual. I'm telling you because I'm British, I would never wear my gold out some of it is 22 or 24k. I'd never walk alone in London past 7pm down a bare street ( it's asking for trouble ) I'm not going to lecture you but it's just reality. I also strongly suggest you look up London areas of crime stats online.

Sending you well wishes!🧡 My 85 year-old parents were robbed at gunpoint, one evening after dinner out, in Barcelona, Spain. My mother was carrying an old, beaten-up nylon LeSportsac crossbody bag. They took my father’s 60 year-old wallet and my mom’s bag (containing a few euros). All muggers are scum of the earth. It’s sad. Stay strong!🤗

I agree with this wholeheartedly. That's also why I don't even want to have a dupe/ replica handbag. I feel like SLGs are much less of a target and they make me just as happy. In the grand scheme of things, this isn't saying anyone is deserving of this, obviously. People are also mentioning that the muggers aren't after the bag but the contents of the bag. Both are true. It can't be denied that people that are getting mugged look like they have something worth mugging. I don't mean that to sound offensive but, statistically, that's the truth.

I believe your comment is victim blaming and it’s wrong. The best of criminals will know a luxury good when they see one. We can’t assume that wearing the Row or Alaia will prevent women or others from being mugged or robbed.

  • @MummyBrown

There are several signs that muggers look for in their victims before they strike. On that list is "THE FLASHY." Virtually anyone who wears fancy clothes, carries an expensive smartphone, jewelry or accessories or looks “flashy” in other words, is indeed a prime target for muggers. That's not victim blaming at all, that's a well backed statistic. Not having real conversations that are legitimately backed by statistics is intellectually dishonest. There is of course no real “handbook” that muggers use to guide them in search of their victims, but there are a loose set of rules that are regularly agreed on by both police and former muggers passed on to the public in the name of personal protection. I'll say it again, because I knew someone would go here: This is an honest discussion about prevention similar to those about not walking down dark alleys or leaving your things in a public place unattended. A quick internet search about preventing muggings and robberies will note some form of the following in personal awareness: "muggers/ robbers are often tempted by money, jewelry, clothing, and electronics." The young woman noted above as much as said it herself that,"The best of criminals will know a luxury good when they see one." AGREED, and 'Bingo.' With the quality of good dupes/ replicas these days, some even pass with legit upper tiered shops under close inspection. That could easily be mistaken by a run of the mill ne'er-do-well, no doubt. The comfort you are willing to take for fashion is a personal choice and that's not at all to pass judgement. You do you. It isn't "wrong" and you aren't "asking for it." With all due respect, conversations like this aren't at all meant to say that people that get mugged are deserving of it, that's monstrous. This is a valid point made for consideration that is indeed based in criminal study. I promise that all of us that have law enforcement or criminology professionals in the family can say this lesson, among many others, have been drilled into us for years. I'm just sharing the wealth.

In Dubai you are safe & can dress as you please. Quiet luxury is only only a trend in western feminist progressive places that fail to protect women alone are night where it matters. Go to a patriarchal place like Saudi or Dubai or Oman and you can wear all the luxury you want in 100% complete safety without having to cover up your luxury bag. Where women cover their hair or face, if that country also has money, they don’t also have to cover their luxury bag. It’s increasingly a choice between do you have to cover up your boobs or your bag

OMG I'm so glad you're okay!! You did exactly the right thing. All the studies show that the meeker, more quiet you are, the worse it goes for you. Screaming and putting up a fight is the BEST way to deter criminals. They just want to grab and go -or grab YOU and go. They rely on our socialization to be quiet and not scream or fight. They don't want to have to wrestle with you, and they definitely don't want to draw attention to themselves. A victim who makes a loud difficult mess is not their preferred target at all. You did exactly what you should have done. I'm so sorry this happened to you, Romina. It's bloody terrifying.

I was mugged walking home from work in Washington, DC a year and a half ago. I was wearing an orange Tod’s bag and had my favorite gold Prada saffiano wallet inside also. Still miss them both. But was grateful I just had minor injuries and could afford to replace all that was stolen. I was distracted looking at my phone but it wasn’t late at night. I also screamed my lungs out, and someone came to my rescue and chased them to try to get my bag back for me, and they maced him in the face. These moments make you realize what’s important in life. I feel comfortable now carrying my bags but it took many months to get over the PTSD when walking down the street after dark. I’m more vigilant now. Hope you recover soon! And be patient with yourself. It takes longer than we think to feel safe again ❤

Let me say one thing: you are in no way at fault for what happened. I live in a city in the Midwest, about half a million. Attacked at night right outside of a party where several of my friends were inside. Ended up in the ER, cash stolen not the purse, assaulted badly and was unconscious but thankfully alive and my car wasn't stolen. Men and women have to be vigilant 24/7. I was already that type like you and it still happened as well. I still have my luxury items but I pretty much take them out during the day or weekend when I'm with my fiance. Or I take a very low key piece if I'm by myself. I rarely go out at night by myself anymore due to this incident. I would encourage women to travel in pairs, preferably with a man if they're going out at night, and during the day if theyre in an unfamiliar area or easily distracted. Lately there are women making reports of unknown men following them in the grocery stores in our $$$ areas in the daytime. Too many crazies, too much human trafficking and too many drugs. I think as the economy and inflation gets tougher we're going to see more incidents like these because of what's happening. I don't carry my gun with me, that is for home use, but I do carry pepper spray. Again I'm so sorry for what you went through! Stay safe! Be careful everyone! This is a heavy topic but education is necessary and can be lifesaving! 💖

So… I (often) carry a small, flat crossbody under my coat, sweater, etc. Only the bare essentials. I might also even carry a nice (but expendable) bag as a decoy on top of my coat. In it I carry anything not too valuable that doesn’t fit in the “hidden” bag, a fake credit card or ID, a fake key, $20 in cash (give them something, you don’t want them angry). Sometimes, I just carry whatever I want, though. The heck with it.

I have heard of a few stories from friends recently that there are regular thefts in South Kensington and knightsbridge, criminals targeting people for lux bags, jewellery and watches. In some cases I have heard of people getting life changing injuries after these events too 😞. After hearing these stories and feeling like they are too close to home, I have become more self conscious about wearing obvious luxury items. I can definitely see the benefit of having quiet lux pieces and I think I have subconsciously started to adapt my collection toward this. I wish your hand a speedy recovery also. Take care! ❤

It definitely isn't because of the brand of the bag. Majority of the time, robbers and muggers don't know what bag is what. They are just after easy prey aka women. Hi Romina, I’m so sorry to hear that you went through this, and I’m happy to see that you’re okay even though I know how traumatic something like this must be. Even though I’m 6’7” there are times where I feel sketchy out and about, and even bags I won’t carry if we’re going to unfamiliar neighborhoods or lots of public transport, because you can never be too careful these days. I hope this never happens again for you, please stay safe out there and take time to process what happened. 💕

So sorry, Romina! I was moved to tears! In my experience, I will tell you that I was robbed 3 years ago in Las Vegas of my Christian Dior bag, which I got back, but he managed to steal my Chanel Pilot sunglasses and case. I was nearly robbed of my Chanel Gabrielle in Victor, New York but got away from 2 young girls and my husband stopped 2 young boys in Syracuse, New York from taking my other Christian Dior bag in the mall! You have to be super careful. I never take out my good bags when going to Walmart but as you say, you can be in the best neighborhood (like Harrod's) and still get robbed. I know a woman who has an office in Beverly Hills, Rodeo Drive and there are "smash and grab" robberies all the time of precious jewels. It's a wild world. Please be careful and NEVER stop wearing your bags. You love them! Enjoy with caution! xoxo Karen

Dear Romina, thank you v much for sharing. It must be terrifying and I m so glad you managed to escape it, it could have gone much worse. The bruises will eventually fade away and disappear, not so the psychological bruises. It will take longer, however talking as bout it and sharing it can definitely help to heal. I lived in London for many years and still go to London quite regularly and I generally commute by Tube...I usually wear my designer bags cross body under a coat or trench. I also carry a tote with make up pouch and even a pair of sneakers to change into once I am through my meetings. As you said, I have always felt reasonably safe in London. According to the latest update from Met, the areas in London with the highest mugging crimes are currently: Kensington, South Ken, Chelsea and Knightsbridge, especially around Harrods. In fact, it's here that people are more likely to carry lux items, from watches to handbags to phones and jewelry. So, the wealthiest areas are actually the targets of muggings. Take care.lots of love And again thank you for sharing 💕💕💕💕 XxxC

It doesn’t matter what you wear , what bag you carry, if people are bad they are gonna be bad and so bad things. You yourself never do anything to make yourself a target, they are simply just going to do it no matter what. So please don’t feel like it’s your fault and you think you shouldn’t carry certain bags. It’s terrible how someone can just do something to you and you’re left to deal with the damage , emotionally, physically and everything. I really hope you’re okay darling. Sorry this happened to you. I live in the US near San Francisco. Crime has gotten really bad and it seems that people who ordinarily wouldn’t commit crimes are joining in. I do not feel comfortable walking the streets with anything that’s recognizable in the last few years. Most of the crime has been targeted toward merchants, but I feel like it’s only a matter of time before purse snatching starts. My every day walking around bag is a Gucci purse and while it is just my daily bag, I realize that others might see it and think that I am wealthy. I tend to turn it around so that you cannot see the logo. You make a valid point about them possibly having a knife. A bag is never worth your life Let go and find safety.

I'm so sorry this happened to you. A few months ago I had my bike stolen outside of my home. It was locked but the thieves must have had a way to break the lock. I only told one friend because I was afraid of victim blaming like why did I leave it outside. A very good friend of mine was targeted and robbed because she was carrying a monogram LV bag in a big city. Last year I saw on the news of an attempted robbery of a woman carrying the damier speedy bandoliere...she was wearing it crossbody and the thieves tried to take it. She struggled and the bag was damaged and the strap tore in the struggle. She managed to hang on to the bag but shots were fired and by sheer luck they missed. The news media showed pictures of the bag which is how I found it was the bandoliere speedy. I discussed this with another youtuber friend that I thought the DE print was more understated and she said thieves know what popular designer bags look like now. She herself rarely carries her Chanel bags when she is out and about. It is hard to say if one is targeted for the contents inside of the bag or for the designer bag. I think it is a mix of both. I personally would not feel comfortable wearing the LV monogram print and I parted with my felicie for that readon...I just wasn't using it. Safety is a big concern currently for me. I do gravitate towards understated bags now but I think thieves are very savvy now and they know what a Celine bag looks like for instance even though bags with logos are more noticeable. I tend to wear my bag under a voat in the winter months and now that spring has arrived, I gravitate towards a crossbody bag. Today I'm only carrying a card case with me along with one of those reusable totes because I took public transport to work. It sucks so much to have to be vigilant all the time and limited in terms of what we wear because honestly I love fashion with logos. In addition to robbery fears, I also have to be aware of my surroundings because I am an Asian female and there have been so many hate crime attacks against Asians in the U.S. I have been called many racist names because of my race. Lastly, if robbers tried to take my belongings I would not fight back because the robberies in many parts of the U.S. have been armed robberies. Tragically quite a few people have lost their lives when they were being robbed of their high end watches and there was a struggle. It is so disgusting that people in our society blame the victim. It is never the victim's fault...it is always the fault of the perpetrator.

Just gave them my little hello kitty purse and my radio. Your screams saved your bag which is great, but it kept you safe, which is even better. I always use cabs for nighttime events when I’m alone.

You are so courageous and so strong. I'm back in London after 3 years of being away. A couple of weeks ago, my neighbour (a tough looking guy) had his phone stolen. A week before that, I witnessed a guy holding his neck outside a local restaurant, 10 minutes later police put tape all around it (he was knifed). Many years ago, my bag was stolen late at night, I was walking home after a book signing, many people were around at 10pm at night when I was walking home. It was a cheap bag - I screamed like you did. I believe these guys have no idea what the bags are (some might know) but many just want the phone & cash. In Sydney I carried my Lagerfeld bag everywhere, here I will stick to no-name simple bags and keep my designer stuff at home. I have designer wallets though - that is fine, they are tucked away. You can wear your designer gear when with your husband though :)) Sending love and hugs and thank you for sharing and bringing awareness - it's tough out there at the moment - but it won't be like this forever, the world will change and we will be more free again 💕⭐

Since then, if I go out at night and am going home alone, I would rather take a "quiet" bag than anything with logos. In America, our violence is rising, particularly gun violence, so fighting back isnt much of an option since I simply assume that any attacker has a gun because they are just everywhere.

So sorry to hear your ordeal, hope your hand will recover soon. I was almost mugged in Paris underground years ago, afternoon in Autumn, I was wearing my Chanel bag cross body. I was on the escalator, full of people with my husband behind me. He always watch out for me. All of a sudden, the escalator did an emerge stop, someone shouted in French, “he is going to grab the bag”, my husband covered me up with his body, all happened within seconds, the guy went past me, someone then tried to chase after him. Later on, we found out it is a very common way in Paris to steal bags. My husband took me, in a spilt second, he saw him was going for my bag. They worked in group of 2, one to stop the escalator, the other grab. To be honest, it took me over 30mins after the incident to realise what could have happened to me.

Oh, Romina, I'm so SO sorry this happened to you. Absolutely terrifying, this is a major fear of mine, esp carrying designer bags or even being alone. I'm extremely aware of my surroundings due to Sex trafficking and mugging. I live one hour outside Atlanta, GA and when we go down there, we go to midtown. That's the very weathy area of Atlanta. Tbh, that's the only place i would consider carrying a luxury bag. It's still risky, though. The state we live in, we are legally allowed to carry a pew pew for protection. My husband always carries when we go down there bc we've been put in some scary situations before. Other than that, when I'm in my local town, i feel safe most of the time. I don't go out at night, though alone. I think the best way to avoid this happening again is maybe not being out late by yourself. I know that sucks, but when your in a large city like london or new york etc. You never know who might be out to cause harm. Someone also mentioned wearing your bag crossbody under a coat where it's not visible.

Hello From Florida 🥰 We Get Alot of People From All Over The World Traveling Here For Vacations. When I go shopping in a crowd I don't carry a Designer Bag I carry something nice but not much inside. When I go shopping I am always looking around to see if anyone is watching me especially the Holidays.I think you should always have a Large Bag to put your Bags inside so no one can see what you have and Hold it over your shoulder with your armed crossed when walking around the shops.I don't shop at night it's not safe.I always drive so I will always have a ride and I also Carry with a License to Carry so Hopefully I never come across a situation like that because here in my state it's self defense so I will take up for myself if I have to. I don't go to places that are not safe I avoid those areas at all cost.I am sorry this has happened to you because your such a kind person please be very careful out there and take care of yourself and always stay aware of your surroundings.

Oh my word. Sending love and comfort. (I avoid top handle bags due to my fear of this. I also keep my luxury crossbody bags under my coat -- especially on public transit when possible -- though admittedly, it's *not* always possible. I'm very glad you weren't hurt even more than those jerks did to you. Take care.)

Oh my god, very sad to see and hear what happened to you. 😢😢 The world has really become a world of hurt, really very glad you're doing ok. It is a relief with you being very cautious anyway. The lovely city of Vienna is not a safe place neither any longer, at certain times, places, it surely has changed drastically unfortunately, speziell nach 2015ff. 😢 Stay safe & alles Gute, Romina. ❤❤❤

I used to work 10 minutes from Harrods shortly before a guy got killed for a watch in front of Harrods and there were also several moped muggings in the area. For the 3 min. walk to the South Ken tube station I allowed myself to wear a nice green tote from Primark, so was making the risk of someone pulling it of me bigger, however I walked there always in daylight, during high traffic and tourist hours, so I thought that I can just pull it off. Anywhere else I wore a really ugly, big crossbody bag that fitted in a lot of things (I once watched an interview with a moped / knife crime thief and he actually advised to wear a cross body bag as it's more difficult for them to quickly pull it off you, so your chances of getting attacked are lower). This bag was like 5 quid. I never felt safe in London knowing what's going on with the crime and I'd never wear any luxury items in this city. It was violently mental back then and with the current post-pandemic and cost of living crisis I don't even want to imagine what it's like now. Nearly anyone I know who lives or has lived in London has either been mugged, at knifepoint, burgled or a witness of a violent crime. Not to mention that riding the bus home from a night out is a traumatising experience with all the possibly drugged, crazily and dangerously behaving people. The UK is not a safe country, maybe in some small village, however also small towns now experience knife crime, machetes etc. There are less and less safe places.

So sorry this happened to you but so glad that you’re okay! My bag was stolen in Barcelona a long time ago but I didn’t notice it because it was hanging on my chair…it cost me a lot of money but that was all. Most of the time when I wear my designer bags my dog is with me (I don’t live in the city) and she is very protective (it’s a Dobermann) so people don’t dare to come near me 😅 but if I were you, I’d call an Uber next time, no public transport late in the evening anymore…Thank you for sharing and get well soon Romina❣️🙏😘

I'm happy you were not severely injured. Material things can often be replaced, you can not be🤗 I'm in America and the addiction crisis is unfathomable at this point. I don't know if the crisis has reached the UK, I think many steal to find their next high. They may have no clue what the bag is, but like you said, it's the contents. I hate this happened to you. I carry my luxury items. I've worked hard for them, I'm going to use them. I'm cautious even in my smaller, suburban area. Crime is everywhere. Heal well and be safe. Lots of love to you❤

So sorry to hear that this happened to you 😢 I do understand that this is happening more often and especially during more difficult financial times, ive been wearing my luxury less in central London because of it and it doesn't help that I am an Asian female who "looks like I have money". I don't get much attention my local town so I'm happy wearing outside of London, but it really depends and you generally can sense if it's ok or not okay like your 6th sense as you mentioned. I hope you are okay and healing up! Sending big hugs to you xx

I’m sad this happened to you Romina and am glad you’re ok. Thinking it through before it happens is so important and you could react automatically and scream which likely saved you. It’s dangerous everywhere. Don’t travel alone at night and stay aware certainly but I think keeping your wallet/card case and keys NOT in your bag is essential moving forward. So if your bag is stolen they don’t get those essential items. I’ve seen slim belt bags (for under your coat) or card cases you can wear as a necklace with a cord under your coat…or in your pocket is better than traveling with those items in your bag. Thieves are so brazen. I’m glad you weren’t seriously injured - people are crazy. Take it easy. ❤️🙏🏽🥰

I’m so glad you are ok 💖 It’s really sad how this is starting to happen everywhere in the world, people are getting desperate with how expensive everything is these days, specially basic needs like food and housing. I live in Canada and here I don’t feel safe taking the public transportation anymore. I’ve been trying to avoid it as much as possible. I wear my designer bags when I’m out with my hubby and try to keep my phone on my pocket at all times instead of placing it inside my bag….we shouldn’t have to live in fear like that.

I am so sorry to hear this incident Romina, but I am so glad you are okay now and not harmed or heavily injured, I really hope you will recover from this traumatic experience soon. I am going to London next week to celebrate birthday and this incident really reminds me to be aware of these situations in london and when travelling. I am living in Bath and I am very comfortable with carrying my designer bags around, but as I am going to London next week and I am planning to carrying my Dior oblique crossbody bag, but this got me thinking if I really should still carry it as it may make me a target. But this should never be our fault, definitely not yours in both of your cases, so please don’t be hard on yourself and blame yourself. In future reference, when you are vlogging with your phone in London perhaps keep it discreet or when it’s less busy, or in a safe area, so people won’t target you. Please stay safe over the Easter holiday and enjoy your holiday with you husband and your loved ones x.

Oh no, Romina, I am so sorry to hear this happened to you, thankfully you are ok. I am as you know, a Londoner too and always on high alert when I am out. To be honest this is one of the reasons why I prefer to carry a cross-body bag, especially when they are luxury. Living in London, you have to be constantly aware - and I often see tourists being at risk, as they forget to be alert. So glad you are ok, sending you much love 💕

I am so sorry this happened to you. I can tell you that in New Orleans there are no "good areas" To think that we are safe in any area is a falsehood. My son was walking and was robbed. He was shot 3 times and is now paralyzed. He is a miracle. My point it thank goodness you are ok and no bag or possession is worth your life and safety. I sold my Hermes Kelly and I rarely carry my Chanels. Today I had a Gucci tote and after this video it reminds me be mindful X

Thank goodness you are okay and safe! If I do wear one of my luxury bags or even one of my luxury watches, I definitely consider where I'm going and if my hubby is with me or not. I live in a fairly big city in a decent area in the states, but some neighborhoods in the surrounding area aren't the greatest. That's why I own quite a few cheap purses that I enjoy, like Longchamp (total of 4). I use those for basic running around. I've recently this year decided to switch to more "quite luxury" items, whether that's handbags or jewelry. I feel this helps and also being more aware of how things are in the world nowadays. It's quite sad. 😞 Try and take care! ❤

Whenever I go into central London I will pay to get an Uber or a taxi. My logic is if I can spend £5k on a bag, I can pay a little extra to get me from a to b safely. I know we shouldn’t have to do it, but it’s worth it to me to feel safe. I personally would never get a bus while carrying any of my designer bags, I’m just not that confident and as I mentioned, paying the little extra on travel is totally justified if I’m spending thousands on luxury goods

Omg I am so glad you are ok. I live in a big city and I am never alone at night. I Uber and never walk or take public transport. I have a tiny fanny bag that I can wear under a jacket and carry the least amount in it. I do not believe many of these people even know designer bags. They mostly throw them away. Most are looking for cash and a credit card that they can use quickly. I still wear my designer bags in the day and if I do use them at night I am with my husband or a group of people. I am short so I am an easy target so I worry about these things. I am so glad you are ok
