@@SumaiyahAbdulKader we had a similar situation and it was hell but we got through it. Once that baby is born you will know what matters and that layoff will be a punctuation mark. It will be exhausting but you will not be working to build someone else’s dream or fortune. Lean on your family and friends for different things. Our son was born during lockdown. That is one problem you won’t have to deal with. It can be done. You can find a way. Don’t forget that.

I remember you vlogging your big feature launch and party, you were so stressed and worked so hard.. I also work in tech and this just reminded me that you should never give your full body and soul to your job because it's not ever guaranteed that you will be rewarded, appreciated or even kept employed. Never forget to live your life and put yourself and your loved ones first. I also had to learn it the hard way. I'm sure you'll bounce back better than ever. Good luck!

haha yes that was perhaps one of the biggest launches we did. it was a lot of work, but super awesome! grateful for this era of work. really sad that it ended this way, but onwards and upwards!

Is common for US or tech firms. As long as you are a cost center such as any role that does not contribute to sales, getting lay off is always a possibility. Your parents are real cool. if the same shit happened in Singapore, my tiger mum will be pouring all the negatives on me as in rubbing additional salt on me.

yeah :( it has been an awful situation all around. riot just did their layoffs yesterday (kevin is safe thankfully), but a lot of rioters i knew got laid off. :( the reactions have been mostly positive, but some were not that kind. braving through it and keeping a positive outlook! onwards and upwards!!

aww thank you! i actually started on youtube making 10-20 min videos. it took me a lot to switch over and make shorts on tiktok and reels! such a different skillset!

I really appreciate you sharing your experiences. As a new grad right now, the job market has been brutal, but it's oddly comforting to hear the positivity from someone who's also suffering because of the market right now. I got laid off from a news station and learned right after I walked in at the start of my week. Two stations merged and they were laying off people from the older, family-owned one and I'd been there seven months by then. Can't say I miss it, but damn it stung once I got home after being eacorted out.

in a similar situation rn. felt all the emotions that you felt(and more) as well. but youre taking it in stride, and handling things with a composure that i wish to have someday. thanks for this video. it provided me with some reassurance of greener pastures. wishing you the best in all your pursuits!

I do agree that Discord did a better job with layoffs. When I was laid off from Atlassian last year, I literally got an email that I was being laid off and then a 30 min meeting the next day with HR and nothing else! Every other communication after that was done thru email! Chloe, I am so excited for your content creator journey and your next venture in your career! 🎉

Your mom saying "isn't that normal"? Bless her. I think that mindset helps you move on vs sitting in being sad.

They really did do a good job with the layoffs. They had an info session after you got laid off and they're hosting more sessions for your class. I got laid off during the pandemic and there were no warning signs, just a phone call from the HR director and my director and then got locked out of my computer followed by an email of next steps with my severance contract so Discord definitely did more.

yeah i've heard of some horrific layoff experiences. i do think this one was pretty smooth. most of my questions are being answered! still a ton of paperwork to get through, surprisingly, but I think I'm somewhat well-equipped!

You're definately not in the position I was in when I was laid off, and i'm still looking for work 4 years later, and now i'm waiing for phd program decisions because i've entirely had it fucking around with industry. I honestly wish I had your resume and contacts because I was ditched by my company while just starting out (I was also in the hospital). You're going to your next spot with a lot of experience many are envious of, so try to keep your head held high.

I got laid off early 2024 and it's indeed a bless in disguise (or is it?). I ended up interviewing and joining my dream company. While I had the job, I keep pushing things off. I continue to get severance between the two jobs.
