I GOT CINNABUN SPAYED (everything you need to know about a rabbit spay/neuter)

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

Hello Buns! Welcome to Cinnabun Sundays, a weekly video series where we talk about all things bunny. Today I talk through the ENTIRE spay/neuter process.
I got Cinnabun spayed one year ago, and I documented the entire process. Getting your rabbit fixed is a risky, but (in my opinion) very necessary procedure. I hope that sharing my experience can help to ease any stress you may be feeling as you prep for your rabbit's surgery.

My baby boy got neutered in the afternoon and I picked him up that evening. He was still groggy from the surgery but the recovery process the next couple days were so smooth, easy and quick thankfully. Hardly any blood, or odd behavior. I gave him pain medicine once a day for 5 days. I know getting males neutered is quicker so just wanted to share my experience.

So glad Cinnabun made it ok. My bunny didn't. She lasted 2 weeks to the day. 😢 please everyone, watch your buns closely and if you feel something is wrong, DEMAND to have the vet look at her. My vet said her behavior was "normal" even though I felt differently and well, she's no longer with us and I love with the guilt every day of not having gone with my gut.

I'm so sorry I'm getting two sisters that will be 6 months old on Wednesday and I'm extremely nervous and scared to get them spayed but I still want to it's just my first Rabbit died not from being spayed but she died when I was put in Foster care after being a ward of the state long story short I just got her in December and March the next year I was wrongfully put in foster care and I barely got to spend anytime with her and she died my senior year of highschool and my mom wasn't allowed to tell me so I didn't find out until months later she died in December she was with my friend at the time I'm still not over her death but I want to give my new buns the best I'm just really scared about getting them fixed they currently live in the same enclosure no aggressive behaviors or anything they're living with one of there sisters the breeder is amazing she's keeping the runt they're other sister and she offers boarding and life time support and delivery for free for life Incase I ever have to go out of town for an extended period of time but I really am grateful for finding her my future buns look like Twins and they get along so well and I really am excited but nervous and scared about the whole spaying I don't think would cope well if one of my new buns died especially with how much I still love and miss my previous bun given the circumstances at the time

I remember when my little girl was spayed. I cried the whole way home and what in 100% stress mode at school. I stayed with her the whole night and put warm baby hot water bottle at her side. I called the vet like 6 times a day for her medication and pain killers. It was the worst. But she is so sweet and no territorial droppings everywhere

I have four bunnies who all got neutered when they were 5+ years, my oldest being 7 when he got neutered. It was so scary, but as long as you pick a vet that specializes in bunnies, it really shouldn’t be a problem to get them neutered that late in life 🥰

I adopted an 8-year-old bunny recently. He didn’t have the best care in his eight years of life. He lived in a cage, they didn’t feed him hay of fresh veggies, and not even pellets for his age. I took him to the vet for the time in his life and the vet was surprised he had made it this far. Although he has chronic teeth problems due to the wrong diet and no hay at all. He was no neutered either. At this point I thought it doesn’t make sense to put him through the risk, and now reading about your seven year old rabbit I was wondering how it was for him.

@ My seven year old bunny did great! It took him a bit longer to start hopping around again compared to my other younger bunnies after their surgery, but other than that he was just fine! But it really depends on what your vet thinks is safe and the best!

I have had one beautiful, darling male rabbit for 12 years until he passed this August, Chamomile, and he was never neutered because he wasn't kept in a pair and we had no competent vets near us, so I was too scared. A few years ago I had to bring my 12 year old toy poodle, who is my ride or die, in for knee surgery and a 6 day recovery care stay post op and bawled, and I mean I mean bawled like could barely see the road bawled, all the way home. We recently brought home a Holland lop bunny we named Willa who has just absolutely stolen our hearts, and I'm bringing her in tomorrow for her first vet appt and to talk about spaying. Just gonna share my bunny Cake story She only got spayed last Thursday because when I first got her there weren’t many rabbits vet around us and she was already potty trained and didn’t have any behavior issues Unfortunately 7 years later she did grew a tumor that was also removed, I didn’t know that this could be a thing as well, and because of the tumor she had to have an emergency surgery so I didn’t even had the time to search vets, I had to go with the one that was available, we recently moved here as well I didn’t know any vets prior! So VERY important to get them fixed I’m in Miami and her surgery came to $750! I did bring her home right after, I did at the VCA in South Dade, and I wish I had seen this video earlier because the vet didn’t give me much orientation But tomorrow is gonna be a week of her surgery and she is doing better every day!

This was SO helpful and I cried with you at all that fear and dread beforehand!!! I've been feeling like a monster dragging my 7mo old lops to their unnecessary torture, but due to increasing aggression, destruction, humping each other, sneaking up and biting me, territorial pee and poo EVERYWHERE, etc., I know in the end it will be best for them to be able to be free roaming binky machines over being locked in a bathroom unless I'm there to intervene every second. It's been chaos at times lately and I just appreciate you SOOOOOOOOOOO much for this confirmation I'm doing the right thing for them. Also, your shopping list is golden! Walmart sells the same Critical Care for under $10 and I can't wait for their palm bowl to get here! LOVE you!

This is so great you’re doing a detailed video on this. Bc I’m sure a lot of owners don’t know all this. They don’t have the first aid on hand. or look at their rabbit hiding in the corner all night and think that’s normal after surgery. Which it is, but you need to help them and keep them going! One of my boys started eating drinking and moving as soon as he woke up and never stopped. My other boy hid and fought eating and drinking and I had to help him the first night. and part of the next day. By that night he was back to his old self and doing great too. But having first aid and critical care is a must. And knowing what you need to do to help them and what to look for is a must!

Got critical care on standby, got a low pan for a litter box on standby, got the ex pen on standby. He just wanted to get out, there were a couple times even through the baby cam I would have to get him to quit licking the stitch site. Other than that he has about 2 more days in his recovery pen and then back to freedom! It’s so helpful to read the instructions given to you by your vet. And I’m so happy with all the updates and words of reassurance from them! Honestly he seems more grumpy but I think it’s from his cabin like fever from being in the enclosed pen 😅 From watching this video I feel relieved that I’m doing things accordingly. Thank you

My foster bunnies went in to get neutered last week and one of them had a bad reaction to the anaesthetics and went into cardiac arrest. He was revived, but they said it was a miracle that they were able to save him. They were unable to go through with the neuter because of the complications. My other bunny had issues with healing and needed more meds from the vet. I’m adopting them but the humane society gets to make all the choices at this point. They want to try to neuter the one whose heart stopped last time. I’m so stressed out. It feels so risky, and I think it’s too much a threat to his health. But I cant stop them. I’ve been fostering him for a little over three months and I think he might die for good next week when I take him in to get neutered. I’m already so scared and sad. I wish I didn’t have to neuter him. It feels like the wrong choice.

I was so terrified for my bun when she got spayed. I hated seeing her looking sad, she was not herself. Once she recovered she never went back to her energized self but stopped the marking her territory everywhere. One thing I that made me sad is that after her surgery she stopped allowing me to pick her up off the floor...now she runs from me if I try to pick her up 😥 she allows me to pet her and will cuddle but if she senses I'm going to pick her up, she runs.

Most bunnies don’t like to be picked up. There are some rare exceptions but majority of them don’t like it even after they’re fixed. You’re going to have to earn that trust back for sure. For 2 days I hovered over her; there were a few hours where I was freaking out and thought she was not okay, but I gave her some fresh alfalfa hay and she started eating again. After 4 days I removed her x-pen and let her roam the living room, but removed all objects she could jump on. The vet recommended waiting 10-14 days before letting her jump on anything!

I expected loads of things but the worst scenario has came true.. Yuki was not chewing, eating drinking at all post surgery. Not passing 1 or 2 at all. We rehomed her mknth ago, she was kept in Cage, I decided to freeroam her, and have a closure night time only for her safety. Anyway so she dont trust us much yet. She did not eat critical care, i did tried, she scratched me and bruised to the blook all kvery my legs, i did tried a towel, blanket i was so sad seing her upset and in so much pain. I was watching every single possible video aboit how to help rabbit in pain who do not want to eat. I tried feed her wirh hadn leaf by leaf nope. I teird all snacks and treats, she did not want it. I decided to bleng herba and pellet wirh water and hold her tight wirh eyes closed. Alleluja, she catch it up. She ate loads of green liquid food. Next step was to melt her pellet wirh water and come critical care, the same she was eating it slowly slowly. And thats how it went. Day by DAY yuki was stronger and stronger 3 day post surgery she start eating greens from my hand, day 5 post surgery yuki was eating treats oleet and green leafs. Day 6 she started munchin her favourite hay 😃 I limited her activity time to 2-3hrs peer day, she do not bite her house yet, it may change soon, she is still on peacefull side, more sleeping and strechibg than chopping arround. BTW i bought a medical t shift for mu bunny to save her from biting herself up. 3 day post surgery i took it off, she was more comfortable without squeezy shit. Tommorow im starting freeroam ing yuki,we wi co to UE litter training with her, yuki is 9 month old loop rabbit. In previous house she was. It trained at all. God bless you fora video. P. S.
