I Got Cancelled For Doing This
And it couldn't be a dumber reason to get cancelled. By virtue of putting my index finger on my thumb, I have been put in a position where I've resigned from a board and am now pursuing legal action.
A outlet called the Tyee, claims I am a white supremacist for doing this, even though this gesture is completely innocuous. What is even more confusing is that they took this photo and sat on it for 4 years. I am not some celebrity and I don't have any major power.
I have a modest following through my organization and through my writing. Cancel Culture is a topic I've discussed for years, but like your virginity, talking about it and having something happen are two different animals.
In this case, the aim is seemingly to destroy my life and while they have failed in doing so, my family has been harassed and I've received threatening messages. I cannot stand idly by and be so egregiously besmirched. If it happened to me, it can happen to anyone.

So YES, while I agree, additional points must be made & remembered. Race/ racism is a European construct. Reverse racism DOES NOT exist. A lot of racism (ESPECIALLY in America) from minorities is a reaction. Native Americans/ Africans in America DID NOT hate white people upon meeting them. Several European ethnicities have hated each other (white people), for an EXTREMELY long time. I don't know of a "race" of people that hates itself, as much as white people. Racism, even toward their own, seems to be embedded. It's been around, a loooooong time. Also, there's a huge difference between black power & white power. Black power is an American thing. It is a reaction to being told that U aren't shit BUT a savage & human garbage (by white people) for centuries. Black power is I am worth it. I'm not LESS "just because I'm Black" White power is I'M BETTER than you because I'm white. Racism/ religion are both garbage BUT neither are going anywhere. So, U can be annoyed by individual racism BUT I'm only concerned when it is held by someone with power/ authority. Someone that can affect my life. I don't care that my neighbor utters bullshit under his breath or in his head, every time he sees me. That affects him more than me.

Agree it's a dumb hit piece. Can't trust journos on either side. This is unfortunate but tb fair on the 'cancellers' it's widely used as a racist sign - it's also for 'ok'.... Depends on context.
