LOL, that's bad theorizing and attribution bias. 1. Richness of a language has nothing to do with its prevalence. English consists of merely 26 letters. Telugu has twice as many-52. That shows how many sounds are omitted from English. Language at its fundamental level is about usage of sounds. In that sense English is primitive. Sanskrit is dying in popular usage not because it's inferior, nor does it lack the 'punch effect' that you speak of. 2. Nobody can spell "knife" by knowing its pronunciation unless they learnt it before. Nobody can pronounce "aisle" by knowing its spelling unless they learnt it before. Graduate native speakers can't say why they use prepositions where they use, much less foreign speakers. From the above, you can easily infer English is among the hardest languages to learn. Despite this massive barrier, saying that it's widely adapted all over the world because of its dramatic effect is outright silly. 3. Economic prosperity confers cultural superiority. Wealth pulls people to move into foreign lands for which they need to learn the foreign language. This makes foreign language aspirational. Telugu is rarely aspirational and therefore doesn't get refined. 4. Wide readership for literature and large viewership for movies has a positive feedback effect on the medium of language--it naturally gets refined. Telugu has been stagnant since forever. Plus, higher education including polity(re: your Constitution remark), social sciences and sci&tech is virtually non-existent in vernacular languages, which leaves no choice for people but to adopt English. That's one reason why the French and Germans(who were at the forefront of research and higher education) didn't have much influence of English language until recently, although they are neighbours to the British. 5. Excellence is observed in the West in all fields, not just literature. So the reason needn't be intrinsic to the superiority/inferiority of the language, be it Telugu or English. FWIW, I never heard an English song that's remotely comparable to the beauty, depth and richness in what Sirivennela or Veturi penned.

I completely agree with you... And even RGV sir is also agreeing with that; every individual language has their own uniqueness but.... At the end of a debate we ourselves fails to answer his question about why telugu or Hindi or any other language from India couldn't able to get globally recognisation.

@@mohammedriyazuddin2537 please read 3 point for your question. If I want work in any place for bread and butter other than my mother tongue,, i have to learn or knowledge of that area language to succeed. If you want work in Japan, China, Germany, Tamilnadu, North India, you have to do the same thing. Here Economy is playing vital role over your language. We should respect and have command on our mother tongue, then it is very easy to learn other languages for our existence. Example. IAS, IPS officers talking in local language to perform their duties. It is mandatory for them. Even though I worked in Tamil nadu for short period of 4 years, I have learned the language for performing my duties effectively, even though not necessary to learn the language.

Great interview. Thank you Swapna garu. Agree with RGV on impact of English language. One more point I'd like to add is that English is probably the only language which has 'evolved' scientifically over centuries by taking best bits from other languages. There are many other beautiful languages incl Telugu, French, Italian etc however they seem to be stuck in past trying to glorify their cultural past. The openness of English and the impact on world culture is tremendous.

I agree that Telugu language and most Indian languages couldn't add new words in the fields of technology. We can not say Telugu didn't evolve just because new vocabulary is not there. It evolved up to the point that there are rules for writing poetry "Chandassu" & "Avadhaanam". This RGV didn't read any great books in Telugu because they are in Poetic form and RGV and others couldn't understand them. But as a language Indian languages/Telugu are evolved grammatically & vocabulary (except technology) much more than English.

What people don't recognize or fail to recognize is The only thing which makes any person great is ones open mindedness to new ideas and not self praising oneself or ones culture of language is a part. What RGV was trying to repeatedly point is its not which language is great but English language's impactfulness in expressing ones ideas precisely is the finest quality of that language..Had there been that same quality in any other language like for example German or French then that language would have been ruling the world in place of English.

Agreed. On the other hand, telugu language had limited growth due to cultural reasons. Only brahmins and kshatriyas were literates and could put in their work in the development of language, while other castes catered to them economically. With the fall of kingdoms, everyone needed to work and earn, kings and brahmins didn’t have time for the language. Had English language originated in Venezuela, it wouldn’t have been so popular.

I think English language is great because of the ingenuity of its people who developed it over the course of period. It's not the language it's the minds which are behind it in its evolution.

The biggest benefit with native language is to that local society - not to the individual who is using it. Just see all the developed countries in the world - Spain, France, Germany, Russia, Japan, China, Norway, Denmark, Israel, Italy, Sweden, Finland, South Korea, England - Everyone speak/think in their native language. Main reason for their development is that all brilliant people stay in their country due to the language barrier and contribute to the development of their society. Show me any other country(except USA that has its own geographical & political reasons to grow) that progressed asmuch as the countries I mentioned above(per capita basis).

RGV point of usage simple words to have a impact in english, even in telugu we use it. For that we should see writings of Trivikram Srinivas who uses simple words placed in such a. Way to have greater impact. From my minute knowledge I know
