I've always loved extended cabs over crew cabs. Since I usually only use the backseat for cargo and rarely carry more than 2 passengers, I don't find all that extra weight and length to be optimal (especially because I love 8" bed length, and a crew cab with a 8" bed would be LONG).

james avery I disagree. Trucks are so multipurpose you can customize them just about however you need or want. I see no problem having all the bells and whistles for comfortability. I also see why some don’t think it’s necessary but when it comes down to it trucks shouldn’t be made one specific way or another there’s just too many people with too many different opinions to justify having one model.

I feel like whenever in my life when I want to get a truck, the Custom Trail Boss with the 6.2L V8 is definitely one up for consideration. It's a cool, fast offroad machine on the lower-end of luxury which I'm starting to grow much more appreciation for. Plus I think it's just an interesting and cool feeling having the big-daddy 6.2L in a basic lower-end Silverado, considering it was only a few years ago that it was exclusive to the high-end LTZ and High Country trims. I wish it were still available for the 2022, but I think it went away because every trim the offer it in now has the electronic shifter transmission.

Oh id take the Custom 6.2 also! I do notice a couple more differences. When in the LT, looking at the rear camera picture, sure you have slightly better resolution, with a close-up view, but no articulating single line that guides you to the ball? Plus on both the passenger side mirrors don’t need a spotter mirror, due to the fact they are both convex, in actuality big spot mirrors! I do think the small button at the instruments, that you use to scroll through the information center is very cheesy! Even in my Colorado WT, that controller in built into the turn signal stork. But I could live with out the extra bells an whistles, but I would definitely need a factory tow package!

I own a Custom 5.3. Only thing I hate about it is the storage. Only storage that it comes with is the glovebox. No storage in the center pull down which kinda pissed me off. Also power driver seat woulda been nice but not a deal killer. The electric brake issue is easily fixable by buying an $200 aftermarket Spectrum set up from Curt which I did. It’s easy to hook up and it looks better than factory. I’m happy with mine and I only paid $31,000

For an entire year, it might cost $100-200 to run a higher octane for the average driver Of course it’s more if you’re driving 50k miles a year But if you can’t afford the extra $200 , maybe these trucks are pushing your budget more then you can afford.

I have averaged about 18k miles a year for as long as I can remember, and while it may not be a whole lot more for the higher octane ($100-200 p/y as you say), there’s just not a ton of incentive for me to go with the 6.2 when I can do everything I want with a 5.3. I’ve seen plenty of new 4wd Silverados with the 5.3 for well under $40,000.

From what I understand high octane fuel is not REQUIRED, the computer will just tone down the engine if you run the cheaper stuff. Albeit that costs power, but I imagine you'd still be at about 400 horses and 445 ib-ft, still not bad numbers.

Decontenting luxury trim doesnt bother me, but removing any form of functionality- no height adjustable drivers seat, no lumbar support, non-adjustable seatbelts... Is counter-intuitive in a base truck.

Everytime I drive one I am completely underwhelmed.....sorta like with the Chev interiors. GM hasn't updated the 5.3L in forever.....think it's time. My 6.2L didn't like regular so I had to run premium. Performance of the 6.2L is very nice when it wasn't in the shop. My next truck may have a V8 in it again, but it will not be one that requires premium gas....

Then do the same head to head comparison with both engines running premium. Those big power numbers for the 6.2 probably drop off substantially and N/A vs forced induction....would love to see the real world differences.

I'd still buy the 5.3 cause off the larger cab. I was a large bed weirdo until I realized I'm not using it commercially. So you know all the larger bed got me on my previous trucks? A pain in the ass to park and more friends asking me to help move their shit. The 6.2 is nice but turn the traction control off on the 5.3 and you can still have allot of fun. My 5.3 is 350hp and its more than plenty that I've ever needed. It offroads well, it hauls a 30ft camper well, it hauls a 20ft boat well, it overlands well and because its legal in my province it hauls the boat and camper decently too. My only complain for all GM trucks is that there should be an option for larger fuel tanks. I can't even find an aftermarket offering. Why GM? Why!?!?
