I found a pretty funny dice glitch e on D&DB while I was doing character creation for a roque. After the first roll on the table top the dice would lock on certain numbers so I ended up with the rogue with a 12-str and 18 and everything else before mods. It took Wizards like 2 months to break that pattern

One of the last times I DMd, I had a friend doing the obvious die snatch trick. They'd roll, and let the die land and rest for a fraction of a second before picking it up and declaring the roll. Weird how they'd always roll 15 or better that way.

My best friend did that when he joined our game, first time ever playing D&D. I'm glad he was receptive when I talked to him one on one about it. It was borne out of insecurity about being good enough, and after some reassurance and support they're now Nat 1'ing with the rest of us and laughing along about it.

I was actually rolling in front of the dm and that happened. It surprised us both. I couldn't believe my luck at times.

I remember once where someone was working to cheat in such a way that it would be subtle, and probably not effective overall. He was taking a nail file, and filing down the 1 side of the d20. Likely, he thought that in so doing, it was more likely to land on the 1, and thus give him a natural 20.

Ok so i fudge some rolls as a dm. Hear me out... i dm for my 20yo autistic nephew and only him so if he struggles and is about to get killed by an orc ya can bet the orc "misses" on occasion. I also have a dmpc to help the boy out in fights. Running icespire peaks and he is LOVING it!!!

I avoid pay to play games. I've already bought books not paying again to play the game. The phrase "Everyone clapped" comes to mind about the first story. It sounded so fake.

I mean to be fair, when severely depressed, showering is actually really difficult, most people who deal with it don't even get out of bed, and if they do it's to get minimal amount of food and then back to bed. so... actually that is a good excuse, it's not a fun one but it's totally valid. My own DM has done this a few times, and those sessions are always struggles not cause of the poor smell but because clearly they're not enjoying anything cause they're depressed but they want us to be happy so they power through.

I can say I have cheated to fail rolls in my online solo games with a DM. If I start rolling extremely well too many times, I'll just say I got a lower number. Sometimes it's interesting to fail just to see where things will go, especially in RP. Do y'all think cheating rolls to fail is alright?

I think this is the most acceptable form of cheating. I can think of a couple scenarios where you'd want to be certain that what your character(s) would try to do will be attempted but won't be done successfully.

I'd only ever fudge a roll on D&D over the internet for a reason of "enhancing whatever dumb shit we were doing" like if we were about to do something stupid that'd be funny but only if we succeeded in doing said dumb shit. I would fudge a roll if I could. Or if the thing we were doing would be cool then maybe, but it'd have to be something that'd make a good story. Otherwise, it's just not worth the effort and losing a chance to roleplay a fail.

If you’re solo playing, like Baldur’s Gate or Divinity, go for it and fudge dice rolls. Those are for your own enjoyment, but doing it with others does nothing but make you look like an pretentious prick.

Wow, so the cheater actually tries to communicate because he thinks there's an issue, and op ignores and insults them? What an a-hole. At least he was trying to make things better instead of going behind op's back and talking shit to the dm, and laughing about it. OP sounds like they need to work on themselves

I've gotten real good over the years at cheating with physical die rolls. The trick is to know exactly how the die is oriented before you start to roll, and be precise in how you roll it. Even if they have you shake it up in your hand, you can use a quick series of spasms that look random but actually orient it fairly reliably. Then it's just a matter of calculating the changes, then releasing it in a precise movement. Takes a lot of skill, calculation, and a bit of luck, and the more sides it has, the harder (except ten sided ones, those are dead easy due to their shape), but it's certainly possible to cheat and get away with it. You won't always roll 20s, even if you're on your game, there's still some things you can't fully control (well, I can't. Maybe you can, I'm still perfecting it) But that's probably for the best, as rolling only 20s would make it too obvious. Now, with d6s, you have the opposite problem: once you get really good at this, it becomes too easy to get sixes, and then you gotta learn to go for strategic 1s and 3s and such. And don't even get me started on d4s! And why have I spent so much of my time perfecting this strategy, to remove as much random chance as I can? Because I have truly awful luck. I always have. This is the only way games with dice are playable for me.
