I found an old gun during a very exciting Murray cod lure fishing session

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

WOW What an eventful fishing session this was. Not only were the cod going BONKERS, they were smashing the lure at my feet, off the surface and everywhere in between, but I also found an old gun as I was about to leave. Not something you find every day!

Great job Robbie , been watching your videos for years now , your an absolute legend ! I lived in Queensland for 8 year and when I was nostalgic for my home in northeast Victoria I would watch your videos flat out especially the trout fishing in the hills, I’m back living down here now and not taking gods country for granted, I fish and hunt every spare minute I get free! Good on ya mate!

A lot of times fly fishing I’ll lift my fly out of the water a few feet away and then see a fish in hot pursuit usually right as I pluck the fly pretty much out of their mouth. Every foot counts on the retrieve and Murray cod sure drive that into your brain. I get a lot of enjoyment out of watching you fish and hearing what you’ve got to say. Without even trying your helping me and tons of others become better fisherman. Thanks for another rippa of a video mate.

When I was fishing in the Goulburn I was using a spotted tiger stumpjumper and I saw a Murray cod boof my line and it looked massive!! I didn’t see the fish completely but I saw a green tail 😢 then I went to cast for a while but he was GAWN!! Then I caught my record rainbow trout and then I got a snag and lost it 😭 my absolute favourite lure!! I still had a great time and I’m going to go to the fishing shop and get another spotted tiger 👍🏻

I noticed many strikes close to the end of the retrieve. Here with certain predatory species many fishermen practice a figure 8 before lifting the lure from the water. This practice often entices a hesitant fish to commit to a strike. Some nice cod this outing. The pattern of their skin is similar to that of the chain pickerel here in the states though the color differs some. Finding a gun or part of around water leaves me wondering if it was dunked to hide evidence or where did the owner go. Stuck under a snag maybe. That's just wild speculation on my part. Curiosity.

Thanks mate. We have really tight gin laws here in Australia. I spoke to my mate who is a gunsmith, and he told me that it is a very old gun, from well before licensing and registration came in, so it could be from an old deceased estate or just a broken old gun from many years ago. If it was a modern him it would certainly raise a few questions. That figure 8 technique works very well with our Murray cod too. 👍👍

Turn the rod upside down and then it's left-hand wind but the snag is its clockwise winding and that will do your head in. They all seem to be hitting the lure on its way up to the surface at the end of the retrieve. The mortality rate of lures is one reason I am not a cod fisherman. In the only year that I gave it a serious go, I populated half of lure heaven I think. That last lure looked like a Christmas tree decoration. You have to wonder what these fish think it is, what prey in nature is purple or fluro orange and green for that matter?
