Once again, you’ve completely transformed this old piece into something useful and gave it a new life without messing too much with it, bravo sir 👏👏👏

The cats are trying out a new custody agreement for you😹 I like how the wood grain effect turned out! I agree about the corner pieces. I think they would give the definitive look that you were going for with the wax. More like an actual trunk than just a box! Great job giving new life & purpose to this plain box! It would've been both faster & easier to just make one, but that's not as fulfilling, I'm sure! ✌🏼

Cats have bets on getting you trained - so far….they all trained you for both pets & snacks.
So pleased you have given this old rustic pine box a new lease of life. The shiny brass castors and fittings really make it beautiful.

In the older times in Germany my grandparents called this a "Kiste".A wodden box too big to be a "box" and too small and less quality to be a "trunk". Typical uses back then: storage for sand, feed, ammunition, stakes. We had them in the barn, stable, mudroom and tool shed. Sweet memories of being hoisted on one and watching the folks work, eating berries or a sandwich and "helping" Thank You for a trip down memory lane❤

In slightly better condition (no woodworm) this would sell as-is for around $150-$200 as an antique in my area of Ontario, Canada.

@@Flippingdrawers Yes, Ammo. Half the size that box for shells and a wee bit smaller for "normal" ammo front supply in WWl and ll. They just had 2 sturdy metal hand grips. Many times they just broke off the lid and the rest was fire wood , walking g planks in the trenches. Google is a treasure trove of pics!❤

I love how you find these old discarded pieces and turn them into beautiful, functional items - they literally look like works of art and you stage the finished product so nicely. I wasn’t sure I liked what you did with the black stain until I saw the finished product. The wax really made it pop! I think your right about brass corner pieces. It would be nice to see what that looks like. The brass wheels were a really nice added touch. You have such great taste and vision! Always amazed at what you can do.

I really like how the box turned out. thanks for sharing your creative process, it’s good to know that even someone who does a lot more furniture refinishing projects than I do also has apprehension about what they are doing as well. It’s all about the process 👍🏻💕
You always manage to make the most humble materials into something special. The brass pull on the lid is beautiful.
I have an old box very similar to yours that my dad made years ago. I used it to travel back and forth to college, so it is in pretty tough shape. Now I have a plan to make it beautiful! Thank you Jay for all of your great ideas🤓
I love it! The 2 waxes together look great together. As usual, you do such detailed work!

Making the long story short: there's no project simple enough for you. You commit with every single one of them in a way that only provides classy and elegant results, such this case. Even being a humble and rough plain box. And the icing on the cake is your own humbleness. The way you share with us your mistakes and doubts, your little tries and experiments, wich of them work and don't... it's a solid proof to me of you beeing a wonderful person, nice and loveable. Simple as that.

Another new technique - always fun! Another project that turned out better than I imagined! (I vote: keep the wax edges and yes to the corner brass, but not actually necessary bc is looks great already!) Another gorgeous cat - so much like one I used to have ! Awww! So glad you like cats - for me they really add to your channel! One request/suggestion - at the end: show identical angle, full view shots of both the before and after, side-by-side on the same screen (!?) I love to stop and compare back and forth. Then zero in on the details. Thank you for your channel.
Love it. Take an old box and make it beautiful.
From an old box to a wonderful chest. I love the way it turned out, and it’s Rufus approved! Great job with the black and gold wax. I think that touch makes the chest!
I would never have the patience for such beautiful artistry.❤
That poor old box looked so dried up and worn out in the beginning. When you started to apply the color, I could almost hear the wood drinking in the moisture! The final product is absolutely beautiful! If you decide to put on the brass corners in the future, please take pictures!
That is one lucky box! It was chosen by a talented man who has an incredible knack for making things look lovely and functional! Thank you for sharing this piece of work with us.
IT LIVES! It looks rustic but well taken care of. Yes to the brass corner pieces! I think those will give it a final pop!

Loving that brass pull - quite similar to the one that you removed. Definitely go with the brass corners. Somehow they elevate a box. The grain is beautiful. Good result. 👏👏👏
Love that vintage pull it was the perfect choice. I actually like the black and gold gilt on it gives more if a vintage feel to it. Yes to the brass corners 😊 Overall it is something I would have in my house, useful and pretty so A+ from me 😂

I'm glad this chest has a new life. It looks wonderful. The corner pieces would be great too.
I would love this box in my home! Well done!!! Another miracle!!! Rufus is gorgeous!🌺
Another great project. The visions - sometimes, they come in whole, before the very first step. Other times, they form as you go - after you’ve tried one thing or another. I always love what you decide on. And I nearly fell off my chair laughing so hard at “computer says no.” I wasn’t expecting that (haven’t seen it in a long time). So funny!!! And kitty too - wonderful bonus.
Great job restoring this box and making it useful again.

I was skeptical at first, as I love old pieces that show their story. In the end, I was convinced that you know your stuff, and did have a vision. I love this box!
Again, you made something that appeared irredeemable into a beautiful piece! FYI, I’m NOT a woodworker, but I watched another gentlemen take paint off an old coffee table with a planer!
Rufus looks just like my cat Jake. I lost him last year, seeing your neighborhood cat made me smile.
From trunk thingy to something bling, very beautiful. Yes cats and dogs like to supervise things to make sure everything is going to plan.very satisfying to watch. Thankyou for sharing with us. 🐈⬛
I love how you can take something old and worn and turn it into something nice. LOVE FROM OKLAHOMA
I really like the end result of using black stain and then sanding it. It gives the box an antique look ❤. Awesome. ♥️🇨🇦
Rufus is so handsome! I love what the black stain and sanding did to the wood, and the brass casters were a great choice. I think the gold and black wax goes well with the brass casters and pull, and turns the grain at the ends of the boards into a decorative element for the final product.
Love that you added the brass castors and the pull. Looks great!
That was a lot of work, but such a stunning finish! A "silk purse out of a sow's ear".
That "thingy" you created is very cool indeed. Love the muted gold on the edges!
Exotic, yet simple and functional. I truly enjoyed the process and also admire the final results.

I never would have though something so rough could turn out so nice. Yeah, not a fan of the gold edges, but love how you did the stain. Good thing Rufus was left in charge of progress by the others.
The “ugly duckling” finds its way into Jay’s shop. What comes out of the shop after Jay works his magic? A most beautiful swan! You never let us down, sir! I kind of like what you did with the gilding and dark waxes, and the pull is perfect!
Looks like a most loved homemade sweater. As always excellent work!
Your imagination never fails to amaze me. Great work.
I really love this look. It turned out great. Thanks for the idea of the 2-tone wood idea! Fantastic
You can always turn the most broken down piece into something beautiful. Love the brass and that pull. Brass corners would also look good I think! Love your videos!!
You have kept the rustic look yet made it look so elegant
What a fun box, beautiful. Great in a tiny house (or any house!!) for extra seating, storage and table surface!👍🏻❤👍🏻❤👍🏻
I love how you rise to the challenge. You also seem to use the challenges to try something new and gone your skills. Well done
Great job! I vote for keeping the edges darkened gold.
One of my favorite rustic pieces you’ve done. Would look great in a cabin. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👍🏼❤️
Your talent is making seemingly garbage items into chíc trendy beautiful furniture. Good job! 👍
I love the subtle gold accents and think you should antique the castors to match the opener. Fantastic narration too.

What an improvement!👏👏👏 Eventually adding the brass corners will be *chef's kiss*. Good to see what your favorite products are! As for the gilding wax, you may want to consider checking at your local art supply store for what options are available. Maybe a more muted gold, perhaps? The end grains definitely need "something".😉
I would never have thought of trying to do something with that box/chest thingy (that’s the technical term). I really love what you’ve done with it. 😊
This beautiful people loved this week's video. I believe that old trunk was a diamond in the rough and you brought out its hidden beauty! I loved the "burnt wood" effect you created with the staining/painting. I loved the idea that you may use it for a blanket box - that gave me an idea of how to store my own blankets that are accumulating. I was especially pleased with the video this week as I am down with a vestibular migraine attack. Watching restoration videos relaxes me enough that I don't feel like I'm on a tilt-a-whirl for the duration of the video. Thank you for your videos, your amazing work, and I cannot wait until the next video!
How wonderful that you made the box useful again. You should know people who love what we in America call “primitive” furniture, really like the woodworm holes! We think they add character along with the rough wood and old nails and other hardware. Kill the worms but keep the holes!
The brass touches were exactly right! Well done!
Beautiful outcome! Wow!🎉🎉❤
Love the brass fittings, they set off the dark wood.
Turned out quite lovely. Nice!

And we have a proper little treasurechest! sweet!
That MAY be an old packing case, for shipping delicate items by train and wagon. Wooden cases protected the contents, while allowing for easy handling, stacking, loading, etc. My grandmother used to have a similar one -- not the same size, but kind of the same concept.
