Trace is one of the nicest human beings ever! I had one of his “Hex” circuits built into an old Bogen PA tube head with two 6L6’s back in 2002 before Voodoo started really taking off…it was a fire breathing monster & nailed the tone that I had been hearing for years in my head! I’m so glad to see him getting some love here… 👏👏👏

Trace is the man. I have my early 2000s 3ch Triple Rec that was voodoo amps modded and it sounds unbelievably ferocious.

I appreciate the love for mods and boutique gear. At the same time the low price pedals and basic guitars being in the chain make it apparent that eq at different points in the recording process make way more difference to the sound than some magical high dollar mod some dude does to some caps or resisters in an amp.

Got a Mesa Dual Rectifier Rev F Voodoo Amp modded from Richard Kruspe. Except his Rev C all his Dual Rectos he uses in the Studio are voodoo modded.

rammstein also used modded mesa triaxis and ps1 pre amps.. i have a voodoo modded ada mp-1, some of the first mods they have done back than and i still prefer this over almost every other tube based preamp i have bought and sold over the last decades..cheers 🎸🎸

Watching Fluff do all these Mesa Recto vids really makes me miss the Triple Rec I used to have. Regret getting rid of it almost 10 years ago. It wasn't anything special, just an early 2000s model but that was THE amp to have back then and I was so stoked when I got it. Maybe I can have one again someday

I have an 2000's dual rec that I felt the same way about, but eventually fell out of love it with and debated selling for years but recently I was looking for a different sound in my band and brought it out and I'm smitten again. Really glad I didn't sell it.

Picked up a triple rec 3 channel mid 2000s for $750 no issues no footswitch. Deals are around. Small mom and pop shops for the win.

A-MA-ZING TONE. This combo MM/recto/whatever OD you're using is just sounding almost perfect (as perfect as it can be through whatever i'm listening to this), clean is also nice ish, but that dirt, mmmmh, tasty...

Trace Davis and the folks at Voodoo Amps. Good people. I have had two V-Rocks. I now only have the combo I had built some 15 odd years ago. Their mods are generally well received.

December I was lucky enough to find an EVH 50 watt 6L6 head modded by kruise kontrol for $900 at guitar center. Everyone loves finding a good deal on nice gear!

I've watched a lot of KZread videos on rectifiers and that might be the best tone I've ever heard come from a rectifier

Love my jcm2000 voodoo metal mod. It rips!

Love my FJA modded heads, 3ch Dual Rect, & Marshall 6100. Amazing stuff. With the Rect Cleans way better, added a depth knob, gain boost, and compression boost. + the usual transformer replacemnet ect. On the Marshall transformer upgrade and added a output transformer and made some tweeks, Sounds are the best 3 ch marshall I have heard.

I almost bought an Uberschall that had the voodoo mod, about 7 yrs ago. I had no idea what the mod was.

I had my dual rec voodoo deluxe modded. Have since sold it. Where I REALLY heard the big difference was in the orange channel. Went from never using the orange channel to it being my main rhythm channel.

I found a used Mesa Oversized 4x12 at Guitar Center a couple months ago for $800 and grabbed it right away considering they normally cost $1500 new. Thing is basically new with no scratches or dents or anything. Sounds amazing too. Cheers for the unexpected find!

I found a Dual Rectifier Road King at Guitar Center one time for $800. Unfortunately I didn’t have $800. I’m still mourning that loss.

I’ve heard the voodoo mod rectifiers, and the trem-o-verb 100 watt head be compared to each other in style and tones. I’m not sure if I agree but I’m almost certain you have one. Mind doing a video?

Fluff , have you ever used the 3 channel stock rectos with a precision drive specifically? I tried this and got an absolute monstrous tone with this particular combo! Worth a try, i even did a little clip of it if you wanted to hear this, its pretty nuts

Bogner modded amps for big names too! Like Eddie Van Halen ( juiced up a Eddie's Marshalls in the 80's )

I have a stock 3 channel, snagged it for 1100. Things awesome.

I kinda hate publicizing that particular cat escaping from the bag, since I still have a couple of the things on my list, but the prices are often totally hilarious for the obscure antiquities that I acquire from Guitar Center.

Are Mesa amps easy enough to mod? I’d think I’d like to mod a Fillmore

Funny Enough I also got A voodoo amp moded dual rectifier i bought a guitar center. It such a great amp the shell and cab it came with real beat up so i haggled down to 1100 bucks for both.. They definitely didnt know what they had. The cleans are so good im spoiled and the third channel is exactly what I want.

Merrow would have a blast with this if he doesnt already have one!

I am not a huge fan of Mesa Rectifiers, but I prefer the stock version rather than this one. It sounds thin and without balls to my ears, IMHO.

They do that alot these days. Companies take out the balls, and then use describing words like " tighter" and "aggressive". But the actual words from buyers are "thin", "tiny", and "empty".

@@YTisGaya lot of those amps are designed with lower tuned guitars in mind but tbh 7 strings have kinda faded out so now we have a lot of shit sounding thin and tiny. I still have my 7 strings but have found myself moving back to 6 string

Idk it still sounds muddy to me on the dirty channels. It’s definitely aggressive but not much clarity. But I’m so accustomed to modern tones so maybe my ear is bias.

Doug Aldrich used voodoo mods as well.

I am considering having my Single Rec V2 modded. But only having the Parallel FX loop removed. An established metal player suggested this. Can anyone offer opinions or advice on this ? Thanks in advance

If you’re referring to modding the Parallel loop into a Serial loop, that mod is simple and has been well documented on the Boogie Board. A Google search should be enough to find it, and it’s something you can do yourself as I believe it’s just 2 wires to be removed. I’ve done it twice a long time ago: once to a Single Rec and also to my current Dual Rec… And yes it’s well worth doing. Parallel loops made more sense with old Fx units with low 16 bit converters…modern 24 bit converters are much better and generally Serial loops won’t have much or any tonal degradation….

I expected it to be tighter and more percussive. When you chug, it kinda washes through the attack. Kind of that ripping-paper sound that I don't really like all that much.

I had a Voodoo modded 5150 block letter and I regret selling it to this day.

If it's an older amp you should factor in the potential cost of an amp tech going through it and possibly making some repairs & upgrades. Something to keep in mind with used gear.

Man. I had a chance to own a Voodoo modded Marshall probably around 15 years (or maybe more) ago that sounded killer!! I can't remember if it was a JCM800 or a 900 but my dumb, naive ass was like "Eh...it's been modified and the resale value has been ruined" even though it sounded soooo good!! I'm such a dumb ass!! 🤦 Wish I knew then what I know now. 🤷

This goes to 11. That’s one higher, innit?

Or you can be John Petrucci and have MESA make you a signature amp

Came across a used Origin 20 head for $350. Tag said gain modded. Hmmm…let’s check it out…5 minutes later..I’ll TAKE IT! I’d put it up against amps that have a zero after the 350. It’s Powerage and If You Want Blood live in a small box. FWIW I think stock Origins sound great, just got to crank ‘em up.

I don’t like to have modded amps unless you can turn it completely off. To me, it’s kinda taking out the soul of the amp. I’ve had a modded JCM2000 TSL from the guys. It sounded good fair. It’s not going to that much like a world of difference. It subtle. Nothing you couldn’t do with an eq.

I would never pay $900 to modify an amp. Better to just buy the right stock one in the first place.

Don’t have an amplifier modded. Use a clean boost in front. Or even an EQ pedal. No need to do anything permanent.

Meh.. sell it. You already have amps that do that better.

All they do is alter the gain curcuit it's easy and shouldn't cost $ 800! 😅. I run a very good parametric eq not a graphic eq.for endless tone possibilities and To push the Amp a bit and i use a tc electronics gate. And just back that gain to 12 or 1 o'clock and your all set.
