I wonder if the players that generated through Brazil/England/Spain etc. had second nationality with the nations that had bigger youth ratings... when I boosted the youth rating of Antigua and Barbuda all the good players declared for England so you wouldn't know they'd generated from Antigua unless you checked the second nationality

I was thinking exactly the same that I wanted to see the secondary nationalities. Because many of those top rated countries like England, Spain, France, Portugal have links with other countries and often allowing them to have double nationalities (like you showed with the Guinea Bissau example)

It really goes down to players being able to appear in clubs. Nepal and Bhutan players wont spawn in, lets say, English clubs. On the other hand, Guinea-Bissau players are directly developed in Europa. It depends on actual tradition of players from one country travelling to another to play football (or having a historical link, like a colony) such as many African countries that show up in French or English youth intakes.

Although youth rating is an important factor, there are other factors in play when producing wonderkids, such as infrastructure of the country and importance of the game. I suggest also altering those factors for a next experiment. And of course, if you do not load the leagues, those teams don't have the opportunity to upgrade their facilities and thus, will still not produce wonderkids.

There's a hidden parameter (I think it's not editable in the editor) called Game Importance. It measures how popular is football in different countries. Brazil has very high, Bhutan has very low. So I suspect that's the reason why there are so few Bhutani players as stars and still so many from Brazil, France, Spain etc.

this just proved that clubs youth facilities are way more important than the country youth ratings, and a mix of both is the perfection Guinea-Bissau being in the top is justified because usually their best young players are raised in Portugal, where some of the best academies in the world are (like Sporting and Benfica), so in this save PT clubs basically chose to develop guinean young players instead of portuguese, that´s why the swap GB at 5th and Portugal at 21st countries like Bhutan or Nepal have no connections to top club academies so they cant really improve that much as their academies are pretty weak

Great Video, Tom. But I have to chip in here and say that between the second half of 2013 and the first half of 2014, Panama was in the FIFA top 50 rankings ( reaching the dizzying heights of 29th in March 2014 after narrowly failing to qualify for the 2014 WC) and again briefly towards the end of 2017 after they secured their first qualification for a World Cup (Russia 2018), so while it's not a frequent thing, Panama being in the top 50 of the FIFA ranking has happened. (proud Panamanian here XD )

Clubs in playable leagues (or view only leagues + full squads) will have sizeable youth intakes compared to the rest... So in this experiment, Bhutan will have several players of good enough quality generated per year whereas San Marino get one of two per year. The game will generate enough players to get teams (senior, reserve, youth, etc.) involved in league competitions to have somewhat full squads.

How good is FM's scouting? Based on your experiment, assume Bhutan generates a player with a 180 PA, but has a CA of say 70. Considering how bad Bhutanese clubs are, they player won't develop, but a 70 CA should be good enough to make the national team and play in regional tournaments. Would FM's AI Scouting recognize PA, and maybe a team in Japan or South Korea signs and develops that Bhutanese wonderkid enough so that by age 20 a team like Benfica, Ajax, Club Brugge, etc., acquire the player and further his development? That's creates another potential experiment. Create 11 PERFECT Wonderkids, one for each position, and put each player in a different, low-ranked country (ie Bhutan, Mongolia, Antigua, San Marino, etc.) and see if these players are ever found by the bigger clubs.

Guinea-Bissau has only become independent from Portugal less than 50 years ago. Any Bissau-Guinean native born before then was a Portuguese national by default, and so they can just as easily register their children as Portuguese citizens as well. There's a good number of quality players that have double Bissau-Guinean/Portuguese nationality but were capped by Portugal instead. Guinea-Bissau could've honestly become potent in Africa if they all chose their parents' homeland. Bruma, Eder, Danilo Pereira at the top of my head... There's a few others. The same applies to Angola, Mozambique and Cape Verde.

How does FM calculate Youth Rating for talent development? By that, does a 200 Youth Rating equate to a 5% chance of creating a wonderkid? Another question - how much does the POPULATION effect the potential of developing wonderkids? Ok, this stat is just for the USA, but of all HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETES: Only 0.03% of High School Basketball players ever play professionally. 0.09% of high school soccer players ever play one day of professional soccer - at any level. Ok, Soccer isn't as popular in the US, as in other countries, so let's double that percentage, and give the average person a 0.2% chance of playing professionally San Marino has a population of 33K Let's assume 25% of pop for all countries, is ages 0-17. That gives San Marino a "working" pop of 8,250. That would give San Marino a potential pool of 165 players. Out of that pool, Lets say a 200 Youth Rating gives a 2% chance of creating a Wonderkid. That would give San Marino a chance of creating 3 wonderkids. CHANCE. Brazil has a population of 217 million. Let's assume 25% of pop for all countries, is ages 0-17. That gives Brazil a "working" pop of 54,250,000. That would give Brazil a potential pool of 1,085,000 players. Out of that pool, Lets say a 10 Youth Rating gives a 0.01% chance of creating a Wonderkid. That would give Brazil a chance of creating 10,850 wonderkids. CHANCE Thus is population has any effect, naturally large population countries will create far more good players than smaller countries, all other factors being equal. Add in leagues not being loaded, poor facilities at most of these smaller countries, and it will still be extremely difficult for these small countries to create good players.

Not sure where you've got the anti-english thing from. But in terms of being a tiny country, we're the 21st most populated country in the world, 2nd most in Europe and compared to other countries with higher populations we're one of the most economically developed. Of course we have the population, facilities and money to be good at sports compared to other places.
