When I was in third grade, our school teacher wanted to have a survey and made us kids vote on our favorite destination to travel to for a multiple-day school trip.
The option with the most votes was London at 14 votes, followed by Barcelona with 11 votes, and Paris, which was the favorite destination of nine people in the class.
The teacher was, however, very surprised, saying that there was an unusual vote in the survey that had got a single vote.
That vote was obviously mine, and that won me a trip to the school therapist as the teacher just couldn't believe that 10-year-old me would ever want to go on a 5-day school trip to Minsk, the capital of Belarus.
But the truth was I've always been very captivated by the mysterious aura surrounding Belarus, a country that is right there in the middle of Europe but that we know very little about. A few years later, I then decided to have my own independent trip to Belarus while hitting two birds with one stone. Not only was I going to have the chance to visit a place that I had wanted to visit for many, many years, but I would have also traveled on one of the rarest airlines in Europe, Belavia.

Thank you for vlogging in english, i dont speak either italian or russian. Spasiba ❤😂
Another fabulous video, Dave! You have an amazing talent for putting across the very 'feel' of the places you visit; I always feel like I am there, with you! Excellent, and thank you. You are a real talent.
Dave, you are one of my fav KZreadrs! Your style and sense of humor is 2nd to none. But your grasp of history really is your strong point. Keep up the great work.
Thanks for posting, doing the very same flight soon, was curious what to expect
Minsk is a fascinating city and a destination certainly worth a visit!.... I was lucky enough to visit Minsk and the surrounding area twice and I had a great time. Sadly, with my friends who used to live there having left the country and everything that is currently happening, it looks like I won't be returning any time soon though. There are lots of fun things to do and see around the city, and while that might sound priviledged, for me as a German everything was extremely affordable. I certainly couldn't hope to afford any 5-star restaurants in Munich, that's for sure :D The countryside is also really pretty and I can absolutely recommend a visit to Nesvizh and Mir castle. Everyone I've met there (except government workers, but that is to be expected apparently) was also super friendly and very curious as to why I was visiting their country. The only thing to keep in mind is that most people obviously won't be able to speak anything but Russian (or Belarussian, which is not the same!), so I would recommend having someone capable of speaking Russian with you when you go to places that aren't super touristy. I did fly on Lufthansa both times though, as it was already right in the middle of Covid and there was a fair amount of political unrest in Belarus following a certain "election", and in case of any lockdowns or flight bans I figured that Lufthansa would probably more interested in ensuring that I still got back home than Belavia. I didn't have to test that hypothesis though, as my last visit was pretty much exactly two months before that fateful Ryanair flight.
That Belavia Tupolev 154 was used on a scheduled flight to London Gatwick 25 years ago
Great video Dave! You are unique and very brave. These reports are always so interesting to watch, but take care. Thank you 💕⚘️🌷
very interesting vlog! thank you so much for sharing this adventure
great video and happy to see it in english. Thanks for the effort
Great video. You got a new subscriber!
You are a legend!
i really enjoyed this video a lot :DD and i like how you make videos your energy is just so happy and it makes the video super entertaining i guess me and 3rd grade you have something in common,, because i really wish to visit belarus someday 🙏🙏 very soon
Love your video.
I can't imagine there's not a flight from Istanbul to Belarus. Turkey isn't in the EU and sorta stays friendly with Russia as well.
Awesome ! You’ve got a new subscriber haha ! And I hope that You also visited Tbilisi, it’s a wonderful city !
When i was 10 y.o. and was studying in school in Minsk nobody asked us where we wanted to go to school trip :(
Great content! I've always wanted to go to Belarus too. When I tell people that, they're like, what?
We were waiting for this one, Dave. Great storytelling! I have still a Belavia Leader card with some miles on it, which could get me upgraded to Business Class. Before COVID, you would always get a real meal, instead of that dry sandwich. I don't fly it frequently anymore, unfortunately...
I love Dave's knitwear as much as his travels! 😮😀
Amazing video as usual, dear Davide! We can feel your excitement through the screen. Take care!
Belavia... Sounds like a kind of processed cheese. Delicious!
dear ladas and gentlemen, ...
16:44 reminds me of when you were, as i can remeber Vorkuta, wearing Jordans ... priceless

Just to mention, Bulgaria air also offer free food, coffee/tea, sweets (chocolate) and wine
This video brings many beautiful memories about Belarus and Belavia, one of my favourite airlines. I had the pleasure to fly on Belavia when they had the old livery which I truly adored so much. I'm glad you described that livery as "iconic". Too bad I didn't get the chance to fly on the Tupolev 154 as they phased it out about the year 2018 if I'm not mistaken. Great video and please, post more videos about Belarus. It's a beautiful country and such a Soviet gem 😄
one of the best countries, lovely people, amazing food, good independent politics well done Belarus 🤩
Nice video mate, throw up a pic of the Belarus passport stamp!
They still make new 76 planes
YES! At last!!
Great video Dave, I'm really looking forward to the others now!
Be safe
Love your video. One small request: I don't like large text flashing up on the screen. Maybe it's just me... I don't know. But very fun video topic. ❤❤
The saddest news is to acknowledge that a Cappuccino in TBS airport costs 7 EUR. Cool that it's still allowed to land in Minsk and have free visa regime (I guess for the Oblast only right?)
15:34 You are mistaken and badly. The Il-76 is a cargo aircraft that is still produced and operated by many cargo airlines, not only in Russia.

There's a missile launcher in the Caspian, that is used on the current conflict. No commercial airliners allowed on the missile path.

Thought the same, but now i know. Wow, this conflict is really taking up huge space outside of the actual conflict zone.... would not have guessed it why such a detpour...
You should do a trip to Harbin, China. It's a city full of Russian influences and Russian architecture. Also Russian weather.
Wow love my fav babushka
❤ plane
I’ve flown this airline 3 times cuz I’m from belarus
You were a lion in middle of bunch of sheep for wanting go to Belarus.
Ты реально из Воркуты? Или это такая неудачная шутка?
Yakolev 40 ? .its in Siberia normlal fghit condition.
Love those old Soviet aircraft. People in the West are often unaware that Russia has been designing and building aircraft, civil and military, for a very long time.
Belarus is a hidden gem

Why?
@georgih
28 күн бұрын
@@hightower6645 Because it's super clean everywhere, super safe, relatively cheap, a lot of beautiful women, etc. Nothing like the mess in Russia :) In my opinion Belarus is more like Poland and Germany, than Russia.

@@georgihWhat you mean? I live in Minsk and it is far from being Poland or Germany. City authorities have no idea how to make a proper modern city. Instead of good residential areas they spam goofy-looking multi-story buildings which look atrocious and tasteless. Same thing with office and public buildings. Hats off to them for maintaining the city but it's not enough to make it Germany or Poland.
How about some videos from the Virgin woods of the Republic of Komi ❤️🇷🇺🤙‼️
On Wikipedia several EU airlines are listed as having codeshares with Belavia. Money trumps ethics every time.
@ArjenDijksman

That was before the Ryanair incident. No codeshare anymore.
@Robutube1
